Re:The trauma of Facebook’s content moderators on Wednesday July 22, 2020 @11:16PM (#23923850)
That sounds like a great idea, not only to just black hole the content, but to have people who are less prone to have adverse side effects from watching such material be moderators.

Thanks for sharing that part about being in that kind of place, I have a feeling many could relate.

Re:Online classes are not worth cost of full tuition on Wednesday July 22, 2020 @08:05PM (#23922870)
Online classes should be deeply discounted in most cases, and free in the others. It's time to end this college tuition scam once and for all.
Well said, I don't believe it is beneficial increase a person's anxiety to extreme levels just because some people think that makes them work harder.
Even with a human involved, the process can be subverted by the human basically approving all requests.
If only the Snowden docs included all the nasty domestic spying that the agencies do, I'm sure we would have substantial proof.
Re:UFO VPN claims zero-logs policy, leaks 20M user logs on Saturday July 18, 2020 @07:07PM (#23885588)
Many people I talk to IRL don't trust any US systems at all. It's a sad state of affairs when one can trust Chinese systems over western. Especially after Snowden. God bless him.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but the insurance files it references are from 2010?
Could you please enlighten us about this "poison pill" link?
It's definitely worth the torrent, especially to see how slow many LE agencies are with keeping up with the technical times.
Was going to write something. You wrote basically all I had to say. I'm so apathetic at this point :(
Re:Atlas of Surveillance on Monday July 13, 2020 @11:18PM (#23828122)
Warrants are extremely easy to get, basically rubber stamped. It's so bad that LE will put in things they know are outright unconstitutional, knowing the magistrate won't really read it or care about citizen's rights.

Gives any rational human being the shivers.
Re:Atlas of Surveillance on Monday July 13, 2020 @11:11PM (#23828079)
I forget where I had read it, but the spotters were also picking up and recording conversations. Inadvertently, of course.
Thanks for the reply. Just a few questions:

It is necessary to connect to the VPN before Tor, correct?

Also, is your script essentially the same thing as multihop that some of the better providers offer?

What is the best way to create the chains? Do you recommend spinning up some Vbox images?
Could you elaborate on that?
I would wager that.
The analogies help break it down for less technically oriented people so that they can get behind the cause as well.
Every American service and product needs to be treated as compromised, it really comes down to that.

Individual companies now need to earn back basic trust.

This doesn't mean you have to completely abandon your favourite service, just have to modify the way you utilize it.

For example, if you absolutely have to use Google Drive, be sure to encrypt your files with appropriate strength first and assume they are actively trying to decrypt and build a file on you.

Yes, I agree. Is there anything we can do in the meantime?
Absolutely true and brilliant comparison. +1
Just shows how rotten to the core the services are.
I hope someone sees this and can enlighten us on how the technique currently works with TLS being more prevalent.
+1 for the optimism, but unfortunately even with those mitigations it is not enough. Using a VPN in combination with DoT/H is currently best practice I believe.
You could, for example, use the Certificate Manager in Firefox to delete specific authorities you do not trust.
I'll never buy another one again after this.

Thanks for pointing that out, now I want to read the rest of the comments to look for other gems but it's just too long.
