Why do you monitor your kids?
You first.

It was called Builder News. I have it saved somewhere.

Written over the weekend In rust Doesn't work

The Holy Trinity

Virtualbox already has seemless mode.
Maybe if people did not open the discussion with virtue signaling their sexuality, things wouldn't be so bad. I'm not straight, yet I hate on the rainbow crowd, and I never mention it because it's fucking cringe to bring these things up outside of personal discussions in person. You give everyone a bad name because of this. Just like how most women I know shun and find feminists cringe.
Being gay is not a mental disorder, but gender dysphoria (just like body dysphoria) is, and should be medicated and treated responsibly instead of making it the new norm and not providing people with the mental care they need.
It would give legal basis to ban the virtue signaling trans-topic flame-baiting posters from forums without the fear of getting cancelled. This is a good thing. It helps gatekeep small, niche communities that have been infested by people looking to cancel top developers, maintainers, project leaders.
Meet in person. Have a Facebook group for family stuff. Make rules for no politics and such from the get go. Make people understand that you are the admin and will remove them if they do t behave. I guess that covers it.
Re:Screen flicker even with latest Ubuntu and popular laptop on Friday February 04, 2022 @03:03PM (#30212219)
>I appreciate all the volunteers working on Linux, but do none of them use popular hardware?

Why should they? Dell is selling the laptops with Linux, they should be the ones to test. Would you ask the same question to Microsoft for a windows driver bug?

Re:Ask HN: Recommendations for WFH Office Ergonomics on Friday February 04, 2022 @02:13PM (#30211498)
You have to do weight lifting to get strong muscles. No way around that. Cardio and yoga doesn't build functional strength. So just get a kettlebell.
The people complaining here are just envious that others can have the system and they can't.
Re:Facebook loses users for the first time on Thursday February 03, 2022 @09:42AM (#30192992)
The past 5 years I only used messenger and miniature wargaming groups. That's all the utility FB provides, and sadly, I don't see the wargaming groups move anywhere else.

Excuse me but, how?
Re:Ask HN: Is the YouTube GUI slower during ads? on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @07:52AM (#30161781)
I have not seen ads the past 15 years. I wonder what the web looks like today, as I read people bitching about it. I don't know why they don't just block things.
Re:Ask HN: Oil or Fish Shell? on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @07:50AM (#30161763)
I just use bash. Does what it needs to. No reason to change to something else.
Re:Ask HN: Do people still use DeviantArt? on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @07:49AM (#30161755)
All the professional visual artists are on ArtStation. That's where you will find gigs, not on DA.
Re:Ask HN: Google Play prevents continuous delivery on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @07:43AM (#30161707)
>I find continuous delivery to be one of the most powerful weapons of a developer

Write more and better tests so you don't have to continuously take out fires.

Re:Ask HN: Company is restructuring. Should I look for new job? on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @07:35AM (#30161654)
>Should I trust that?

No. They tell this to everyone except the managers who will do the firing. Start interviewing before your colleagues grab the offers.

Bad programmers.
Re:Ask HN: At a peak of my dev career, I hate my life on Sunday January 30, 2022 @05:13PM (#30141720)
I got into miniature painting. First just figures to play games with, but then moved to busts and larger (75mm) display pieces. I pretty much have dedicated myself to these at one point. I still go out to local gaming stores to enjoy games with people, made friends that way to hang with, but what brought real peace to my mind is practicing art on a daily basis.
Re:Ask HN: How Do You Remember? on Tuesday January 25, 2022 @08:32AM (#30071567)
>and struggle to describe the plot a day or two later.

Chances are you were not watching, just attending and staring. Do you have your phone at hand in these events, by any chance?

This is not a very subtle shilling of your product.
Re:Ask HN: How Do You Budget? on Tuesday January 25, 2022 @06:57AM (#30070825)
Paycheck arrives. We put 50% into savings account automatically. Fixed amounts get moved to household expense accounts, from where bills and rent are paid automatically. What we have left is what we live on, both for groceries and entertainment.

Only the household account is shared. We keep our savings separate. It's good practice.

God, I wish. The biggest blessing would be to be cut off from the US internet. I dream of the balkanization of the web every week by now, and this was not the case 10 years ago.
Re:Ask HN: How is your startup handling customer support? on Tuesday January 25, 2022 @06:40AM (#30070725)
We have a customer only Discourse forum where you can ask your support question. You can also search for the solution, since reply is within 3 business days. This encourages a culture of looking for the answer before asking the question.
Re:Ask HN: Where within Europe should we incorporate? on Tuesday January 25, 2022 @06:38AM (#30070709)
You have to go to a notary everywhere, for everything in Europe if you are above sole trader level.
Re:Ask HN: Gmail account security on Tuesday January 25, 2022 @06:18AM (#30070579)
Same in the Netherlands with DigiD. The name is an awful pun. Very Dutch.

>Don't buy services from a advertising / products company.

I will remember this. Thanks.

You can just set deny all.
