Re:Scaling Git at OpenAI on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @09:34AM (#50352492)
I have full faith in LLMs to produce code that does something (whether or not it's desired or expected). I have little faith that the engineers (or MBAs) have any clue what they're doing. It'll be interesting to see what parts still exist in ten years and what parts they'll have to light on fire to contain bad assumptions.

How would you know?

Advantage at what? Enjoying life?

We could really use a lot more luddites tbh. Doesn't seem very applicable here tho.

That's precisely my point.
Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @06:34PM (#50331055)
I think this is quite common in tv where the relationship among writer, director, actor evolve over the seasons.
Surely this is straight fraud?
Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:05PM (#50328013)
Yes it becomes space liberalism rather than space communism.

I disagree. Not only did he continually & substantially contribute to Picard's character, it clearly aligns with his own values and ethics as demonstrated over and over in interviews. Why not both? That seems like the obviously best perspective.
The police and flock cameras are there regardless of how people vote lol. Who would bother to pitch flock cameras to people and why?
One of the least democratic and accountable institutions in america, btw, along with the courts.

I was referring to private college degrees. Regardless, who you know and how much capital you can access matters many of orders of magnitude more than the text on your transcript or your actual existence

Re:My favourite PowerMac is a Nintendo Wii on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:56PM (#50308561)
I don't disagree, but the wii remote market was/is the absolute worst console device market.
Re:American views of higher ed decline, once again on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:31PM (#50307287)
I agree! But the way you ensure this is by paying. This is not an unusual market shape. Realistically wikipedia provides more educational opportunity than any university on the globe did in the 80s—association with education brand is largely a performance. You don't really need to pay anything to be competitive with other people excluded from upper crust society. I am unfortunately moving in the direction that wealth dominates all other factors of human behavior.
Re:Anthropic Cracking Down on Video Game Rewrites on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:02AM (#50304907)
Hard to imagine this is actually a concern for game makers. Decompilation aside, AI can only produce shallow visual mimicry. If you were to actually try to enjoy these games you'd be miserable nearly instantly.

Rookie move to fight this legally! What replaces it actually will be engaging and competitive. Palworld is just the beginning....

I more meant the top 10% of american wealth. This includes the upper part of the PMC.

Re:Pico CSS is no longer maintained on Friday October 30, 2026 @10:31AM (#50304467)
Look all I can say is now that we have LLMs, you'd have to put a gun to my head to target the browser. Worst application platform imaginable. Somehow it's also become a pretty bad document browser.
Re:American views of higher ed decline, once again on Friday October 30, 2026 @10:30AM (#50304446)
It's access to the upper crust of society that you're paying for, not an education. Just pursue scholarships and state schools (which all provide globally competitive programs) and the chances this is the second-highest purchase you'll ever make will be extremely low.
Re:LLM Voice on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:03AM (#50300655)
What if? But this certainly doesn't describe LLMs.
Re:Solving Postgres' Count Problem on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:35AM (#50300507)
Can we update the title here to reflect the content? "Making COUNTs and the Rest of Search Really Fast (Part II)"

Presumably we can deprecate the broken shit if we can get people to buy into software upgrades.

Ok you can easily do so and you probably should

Ownership of data was a farcical concept to begin with. Now we have a farce squared
