Re:Clean up your existence on Saturday November 26, 2016 @12:43PM (#13044871)
It should be an opensource project that people can run themselves on node or linux or whatever. They are logging in via Oauth, pulling all emails from gmail, scanning them for some keywords/patterns and then submitting removal requests to those services. It be perfect for a standalone opensource project, all someone needs to run it is their google oauth key from developer dashboard.

Otherwise we have to trust "someone" whoever it is that designed this service to not keep all the emails they pulled out of your account for processing for whatever nefarious purposes one can imagine.

I mean if I ever wanted to mass harvest peoples inboxes then this is exactly how I would approach it and hope most people just click "next" > "next" on the permissions warning that google shows, which most people would.

2016 when old ideas get new names

distributism > communism

altright > fascism

Revenue website here in Ireland does this, you need to have a cert which is read by a java applet, cert is issued after you use a one time password mailed to your home from what i remember, they expire every so often and need to be renewed.

One of the banking sites did as well but dropped it, now my gmail is more secure than my bank account since there is no 2fa on this bank.

The java applet approach must cause endless customer support requests

Re:Tech firms seek to frustrate internet history log law on Wednesday November 23, 2016 @07:48AM (#13022222)
A majority wont care since it has nothing to do with Britain got Talent or Goglebox

A minority will be pushed to use proxies and vpn's which will flag them for closer examination

Everything is going according to plan so...

Come to Ireland and leave the motorway network for our country roads, we pass within inches of bushes on one side and cars on other at 80 to 100km/h while being blinded by idiots misusing fog lights and reflections of perpetualy wet roads. These "roads" resemble twisty tunnels thru trees :D

"They" probably have dirt on him

The thing about living in a surveillance society is how good people can be silenced via blackmail.

Don't they own a series of large sites?

Re:Powerwall 2 and Integrated Solar on Saturday October 29, 2016 @05:20AM (#12823254)
Ireland, 4 bed detached, solar water heater which works well for about 4 months of year, oil heating + wood/turf stove for rest of time. No need for air conditioning here but heat recovery thingie is on all time.

5000kWh last year, tho I have computer(s) on 24x7 due to home office, Comes to about 120€/month

Half of all the bills are just standing charges, and renewable subsidies charges and taxes, and taxes on taxes. Hence adding LED lights, low power appliances etc did little to budge the bills

Lack of regulation?

Re:Panama: The Hidden Trillions on Sunday October 09, 2016 @02:16PM (#12672479)
Maybe Obama should consider a tax amnesty? Get money in from outside the US at a low tax rate (something is better than nothing right) and get it circulating in the US creating jobs and funding startups/ideas

Just today we had news about one in Indonesia http://www.reuters.com/article/us-indonesia-tax-idUSKCN1200R...

The system I described apparently does not contravene these treaties, see wiki someone posted above afterwards
Railguns that could accelerate and dump pieces of metal anywhere in world from high orbit. Militaries would drool over the idea of controlled falling meteors for strategic bombing
Re:150,000 IoT Devices Behind the 1Tbps DDoS Attack on OVH on Wednesday September 28, 2016 @08:29AM (#12597121)
I remember when the ntp exploit came out few years ago datacenter where we have a rack contacted me saying the Supermicro IPMI devices on the Supermicro servers were participating in an amplification attack.

I was like wtf! Matter was quickly resolved of course, also they learned a lesson and moved ipmi ips to 10mbit limited connnections not 1gbit.

Tho ideally a local ip that accessible only via a vpn would have been the best option for remote management but yeh, little steps I suppose with some providers.

Re:150,000 IoT Devices Behind the 1Tbps DDoS Attack on OVH on Wednesday September 28, 2016 @07:05AM (#12596762)
Suing users wont work, now suing the manufacturer if the device is possibly a path that we will see pursued.

If a precedent is set (after all cars get recalled all time for flaws) then we would endup with a more secure internet.

Re:Bitcoin Wealth Distribution on Saturday September 24, 2016 @01:59PM (#12571859)
So those 7.4+9.4 million bitcoin address with a balance of less than 0.0001 ($0.06) are basically unusable at this time (due to current fee and blockchain being constipated for most of 2016), the sum up to about 2600$ worth and result in millions of "spam" entries on the blockchain
Re:Flooding of US Coast, Caused by Global Warming, Has Begun on Saturday September 17, 2016 @08:26AM (#12520217)
Will the US see large engineering works this century to prevent flooding? Large stretches of Florida have quite alot of property right on the sea barely above sea level, would these property owners demand protection?
Re:EU's Tusk Says May Expects to Start Brexit Talks by February on Friday September 16, 2016 @03:29PM (#12516619)
Its a bit deeper than that, freedom of movement of people/goods/services/capital lies at the very root of why the EU was founded

Even Norway and Switzerland and Iceland had to compromise to gain access to this market.

It would be absolutely hilarious (from a political point of view) if the UK endsup in same position of having to pay into the EU and implement most of the laws without having any say in how its run.

Re:Show HN: A minimalistic cloud provider on Thursday September 15, 2016 @01:44PM (#12508179)
Can I pay with bitcoin? if not then why? I currently use vultr and it spins up/down instances when my program needs it an automatically pay them with bitcoin
Re:Web2Web Bootstrap on Thursday September 15, 2016 @03:37AM (#12504107)
Bitcoin blockchain can only store very small amounts of extra data with each transaction.
Would SiteAccelerator not be a better name since this speedsup site loads due to preloading of pages, but does nothing to the current page (well beside adding extra javascript to it).

I have heard that argument being made and like I said as a small business owner here it does piss me off that likes of Apple get preferential treatment from the taxman (but not surprised).

But if that is the case then the matter should be handled via courts, Revenue and the Gardai(police).

Who made the EU Commission the judge, jury and executioner?

You have to remember the EU is not the US, it is a much looser union where member states apparently meant to have most of the power, so in this case it seems there is somesort of powergrab and I do not like it

I voted for Europe in each and every referendum but I do feel like i was lied to when it comes to all the assurances made about states being able to make their own tax policy.

This Apple thing could open a pandoras box and could be a slide towards a more federal Europe, something that myself and I assume alot of people here and across europe do not want.
