Re:I just want an 80×25 console, but that's no longer possible on Wednesday September 17, 2025 @01:35AM (#45272115)
Getting an old machine is the way. I can’t think of why I would want this and I’m old so I don’t think it’s coming back.

You can if you have a stronger identity layer.

The New York Times are a bunch of anti semitic roaches. Flagged.

You realize one has nothing to do with the other right? They make a hybrid version of almost every model in the lineup. They are leaning into fucking hybrids mate.
Re:I've Overlayed Stays on a Light Pollution Satellite Map on Tuesday October 31, 2023 @03:37PM (#38090306)
It is a chicken and egg problem as people won’t walk their dogs outside as much in an unsafe area
Yes it is. People forget this because they live in a bubble. It’s like remote work, nice for the laptop class, but not possible for the person growing your food and manufacturing your tesla.
There’s a whole spectrum of “home schooling”. At one end you have parents teaching their own kids, maybe using some online resources, libraries etc. but for many it is more like group schooling which is almost like a charter or private school where you join with other “home” schoolers but don’t have a traditional teacher and administration, it’s basically the remote work approach of school vs the in-office approach. Then you have actual private schools with a more traditional building and teaching method. And finally you have public schools, the default choice which used to be seen as the gold standard in terms of equal opportunity, but let’s forget about that because schools are “indoctrinating” kids now.
Congrats to these leeches on their future payout.

Re:Covid's Damage Lingers in the Heart on Tuesday October 24, 2023 @11:05AM (#38000219)
Covid is a disease of the mind for some
Not in the areas with good schools…
It’s really not though, you just can’t have a 4000sq foot house here, you get a 1000sq ft apartment or you commute in. 200k income won’t buy you a nice house in Austin or Miami without a commute either.
Re:Weight-loss drugs seem like another bit of sci-fi becoming fact on Saturday September 09, 2023 @02:09PM (#37448362)
That applies to lots of things. Most kids don’t like broccoli the first time they try it either. Tastebuds are adaptable. The effects are more important.
Because coffee is awesome if you avoid the negative effects like sleep disruption?
Also processed junk food got way more cheap and common and unhealthy right? almost everyone’s brain is wired to love sugar and salt, and we found good ways to hack that.
Now that your energy has improved are you exercising and eating better?
Shrooms aren’t usually part of this cycle. You’re thinking of meth & heroin/fentanyl
Re:Arduino raises $22M Series B round on Thursday September 07, 2023 @11:38AM (#37420557)
You do realize this is what people always say when this happens? Nothing you said is reassuring, it’s basically “trust us guys”
Re:If You’ve Got a New Car, It’s a Data Privacy Nightmare on Wednesday September 06, 2023 @09:38PM (#37413695)
Most cars still have the steering wheel controls from what I’ve seen regardless of screens. I think even teslas have some steering wheel buttons
Re:If You’ve Got a New Car, It’s a Data Privacy Nightmare on Wednesday September 06, 2023 @11:32AM (#37406636)
You’re old. Almost no one has that muscle memory anymore. Hell almost no one listens to the radio anymore, people listen to Spotify or podcasts.
Re:If You’ve Got a New Car, It’s a Data Privacy Nightmare on Wednesday September 06, 2023 @11:31AM (#37406624)
It’s the same in the US, you just correctly identified that it’s not an issue for the vast majority of people outside of the data collection concerns (which most people also don’t care about)
Did they build housing on them or what?
Because people want to play games that are fun not grind on some play to earn scheme or cash grab. turning games into marketplaces often ruins the fun.

If anything from what I’ve heard hack is slowly taking over IG and WhatsApp. But it’s an incredibly large codebase to move

Perfect list. Sums it up completely
Maybe you took me a little too literally. There are obviously many disadvantages to record players and having an infinite library of music on your phone is amazing. I don’t even own a record player or an old radio anymore, but the next time car play freezes up or my Bluetooth speaker decides to unpair I will wish I did.
That is true
Lots of companies make ovens with physical knobs still. Smart features are creeping in but more in fridges than ovens.
There’s a reason people fetishize retro products and it’s not only the aesthetics. For example turning on a radio and having it instantly work, not dealing with boot times, glitchy screens, unresponsive controls, failed Bluetooth connections, etc.
The eurofication of the US continues
