They don't necessarily deserve credit, it is just the bare minimum courteous behaviour in academia to reach out to other researchers in the same area before publishing a result.

I'm also unaware of the quality of the consultation with the relevant mathematicians, colour me skeptical there.

Re:Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @11:38PM (#50175791)
I'd love to hear from a Rust programmer on the human readability of the Rust code produced in this port.
Re:Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @11:21PM (#50175669)
The reason Anders gave at the time was Rust effectively outlaws cyclic data structures, which was not fitting of their implementation.

lambda + DB is an antipattern.

Something is on fire. Literally or figuratively.

Professor Tao.

Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Sunday September 06, 2026 @02:17AM (#49583813)
No I don't have any reason to believe you are mistaken other than general suspicion.
Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Saturday September 05, 2026 @05:28AM (#49574803)
So would you also say no chance of a stack overflow or any type of surreptitious storage overflow anywhere in the runtime do you think?
Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Saturday September 05, 2026 @02:34AM (#49573695)
Has Lean proved the Four Colour Theorem? I thought only Rocq had.
Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Saturday September 05, 2026 @02:29AM (#49573670)
AI is hopeless at using existing code, it likes to append only.
Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Saturday September 05, 2026 @02:06AM (#49573533)
With the size of the proof object, a potential buffer overflow comes to mind.
Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Friday September 04, 2026 @09:26PM (#49572173)
I'd feel so much more excited if this was done in Metamath. Tiny checker kernel, no complicated dependent types, way less to go wrong.
Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Friday September 04, 2026 @09:16PM (#49572123)
13 million lines of code, a lot of which is new to Mathlib. So it hasn't built on what is already there but synthesised a bunch of new stuff.

LLM generated Lean code in the past has been known to exploit bugs in the Lean kernel, it would be foolish to rule this out happening again.

US centric viewpoints. The UK is running out of space for landfills. Burning it is best for all.

Probably better for the environment too.

Didn't know ISIS gave a hoot about gluten free.

Re:I have officially retired from Emacs on Sunday May 03, 2026 @06:07PM (#48002071)
I know, I tried modal emacs for a while there.
Re:I have officially retired from Emacs on Thursday April 30, 2026 @02:49PM (#47966671)
Thanks, I left due to rsi from the chords.
Re:I have officially retired from Emacs on Wednesday April 29, 2026 @07:50AM (#47947036)
It doesn't have the (any?) diffing capabilities of magit, so it's not usable for me yet.
Re:I have officially retired from Emacs on Wednesday April 29, 2026 @07:42AM (#47946957)
I've never found a decent magit replacement since leaving emacs over to vim. There is a Vim attempt at a magit clone, but it is buggy as hell.
Re:I have officially retired from Emacs on Tuesday April 28, 2026 @05:58PM (#47941415)
lazygit is too slow for me.
Re:Category Theory Illustrated โ€“ Orders on Saturday April 18, 2026 @11:37AM (#47816732)
The author's writing style and overuse of parentheses is excruciating. True parenthetic material is rare, good technical writers use them sparely.
Re:Category Theory Illustrated โ€“ Orders on Saturday April 18, 2026 @05:02AM (#47814367)
Just Yoneda Lemma. In fact it feels like the theory just restates Yoneda Lemma over and over in different ways.
Re:Neovim 0.12.0 on Sunday March 29, 2026 @06:05PM (#47567889)
With its own package manager now, and LSP library, you really don't need a lot of config tweaking for a minimal vim setup these days.
Putting http in between all your components creates a madness machine. Why the cult following around Martin Fowler?

That's because we let all the industries go offshore, for the promises of Neoliberalism. That should never have happened either.
> Ireland partly got rich by being a massive CO2 polluter per capita.

This argument that we have to self destruct to have the moral highground just keeps getting repeated, for maybe two decades now.

We, as in the West, got there first because we are luckier/better organised/evil colonialists/whatever, take your pick it doesn't matter.

China DGAF about our self perceived virtuousness, they know windpower and solar are not viable long term, they're just happy to sell us more panels and propellers like any other widget from a factory with a profit margin. Web search how many Chinese coal plants came online in the last six months.
