Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @02:22PM (#50092453)
That's really contextual. Many times I'll go to a manufacturers site and the price is $3-$10 more than just using that same manufacturers store front on Amazon. Especially factoring in the "free shipping" w/Prime.
Mostly for nostalgia, I loved my Kyocera flip phone growing up. And yea, I basically just added time management tools to IG and Reddit on the 13 and I've been fine.
Re:macOS Golden Gate Is a Buggy Mess on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @11:15AM (#49894789)
iMessage (Messages) doesn't work for me after upgrading. Downgrading to macOS 26 looks to be a chore so I guess I'm just SOL until it gets patched.
I tried out dumb.co. Their flip phone supports maps, MFA, Uber, imessage/call forwarding.

I unfortunately didn't use it nearly as much as I thought I would have. It's also significantly bulkier in my pocket than my 13 mini. Loved the idea though.

Re:Apple Watch Series 12 on Thursday September 10, 2026 @08:17AM (#49642516)
Been using Suunto Run for about a year. Would have switched back if it had dual-freq GPS. It makes a huge difference for more accurate pacing.
Re:Apple Watch Series 12 on Thursday September 10, 2026 @08:12AM (#49642447)
I run daily with a 13 mini easily. My shorts have a pocket in the liner that makes it trivial.

I don't fully understand people that carry their phone in hand when running.

Re:Apple Watch Series 12 on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @03:03PM (#49632260)
Been using Suunto Run for a year and have been happy. The thing I mostly miss is Apple Pay and Runna compatibility. I usually have my phone with me for the former, and I'll be snagging the Race 3S when it supposedly launches in Oct.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:52PM (#49631996)
I'm not the market for it (I don't watch youtube, etc on phone), but I've seen some Samsung folds IRL and they are pretty amazing for video content.

This is a gorgeous design.

Re:Proton Global Outage on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @06:33PM (#49456837)
Mobile app seems to work, browser app doesn't seem to work at all.
Re:US hires over 2k video gamers as air traffic controllers on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @10:12AM (#49272696)
Seconding this. America's Army (AA) was very popular and well liked, especially because it was free IIRC. Medal of Honor:Allied Assault is another addition to the above list.

I miss Tribes

Ahh, YMMV then. My cats go nuts for them. We call them their "special meatball"
Pill pocket treats have been great for this exact purpose.
Fond memories. I remember going to the local YMCA (sub-2000) and going from DOS terminal to DOS terminal typing in (IIRC) `exec wolf3d.exe` and finding one of the few PC's that had it loaded to play it.
That's the thing. Prime video was ad free for years and then it was a $3 upcharge to remove ads all of a sudden.

Absolutely enshittification. I canceled my prime membership that day.

I followed this guide for setup and it was pretty straight forward: https://github.com/Pharkie/ultimate-arr-stack
Re:One item purchased, ten emails on Wednesday April 08, 2026 @02:57PM (#47694652)
I've been using Proton Mail and iOS (through iCloud+) for this. Almost every purchase online goes through a proxy, and once the item is delivered, the email deleted.

This has a side benefit of being able to sign up to the popup modals for like, 10-20% off a first purchase.

Some sites do not parse the emails correctly though (if they contain periods, etc) and it's also hard to order track.

I find it's worth the trouble to have a relatively quiet inbox.

Re:Buying a retro game console on Thursday March 26, 2026 @10:18AM (#47530793)
RetroArch seemed pretty easy to set up? Unless you're doing custom key bindings, it was relatively easy to navigate through the emulators.
Re:Illinois Introducing Operating System Account Age Bill on Tuesday March 17, 2026 @02:43PM (#47416539)
Growing up, I vividly remember user accounts being important for our families personas on Windows XP. There's definitely a place for them, but there should be an option to not use one.

Unless your specifically calling out accounts that require online registration for the OS. I'm vehemently against that requirement.

Re:AirPods Max 2 on Monday March 16, 2026 @05:06PM (#47404888)
FWIW we use the minis all over our place and love'em. But we pretty much only ask basic questions or use them for airplay. Sounds quality is impressive imo.
Re:We Might All Be AI Engineers Now on Friday March 06, 2026 @05:28PM (#47281971)
FWIW I thought it read fine and enjoyed the take. As I'm exploring more AI tooling I'm asking myself some of the same questions.
Re:Apple Introduces iPhone 17e on Monday March 02, 2026 @06:06PM (#47225541)
I did! I ended up buying a kit off ifixit IIRC. It was super cheap and works great! If I did it again, I would splurge for the Apple verified battery as a third party one doesn't work with the new Battery app features.
Re:Apple Introduces iPhone 17e on Monday March 02, 2026 @10:38AM (#47219358)
Still holding onto my 13 mini. Dreaming of another small form factor release one of these announcements.. :'}
You can obviously bypass them, but having precommit hooks to run scripts locally, to make sure certain checks pass, can save them from failing in your pipeline, which can save time and money.

From an org standpoint you can have them (mandate?) as part of the developer experience.

(Our team doesn't use them, but I can see the potential value)

What handheld do you use? I'm window shopping an upgrade from my miyoo mini.
Re:EmulatorJS on Thursday January 29, 2026 @03:32PM (#46816157)
There's an AppleTV app for it, which makes it trivial to connect a BT controller and finally finishing that Donkey Kong Country that's been holding you back,
Re:Amazon Closing Fresh and Go Stores on Tuesday January 27, 2026 @05:49PM (#46788268)
Loved the Go store in Chicago (Ogilvy), had some great lunch options and even a take home "dinner for two" bag of premade ingredients.
Bring back Cybiko's, we can message there instead.

Re:Date is out, Temporal is in on Monday January 12, 2026 @02:43PM (#46593215)
Built a scheduler with pretty much all my moment/moment-tz questions answered through ChatGPT. One of the things it excels at, crawling long lived API documentation, answers, etc.
Re:Apple Services Experiencing Outage on Thursday December 11, 2025 @10:40AM (#46232745)
Good point! I might not have noticed.
