Re:Infants' sense of pain is recognized, finally (1987) on Wednesday June 15, 2022 @04:01AM (#31750284)
Lucky you, if you dont have genetics were anesthesia do not work properly. Then find a doctor, who accepts that problem and gets it over with painful but fast.

The hardest part is if you have a dentists that insist on anesthesia must work, but it wont, so you must act your ass off to prentend to not be in pain, so he wont push syringe after syringe, doing nothing and waiting for 15 minutes in between while your tooth is already open with the root canal drills in.

Totally agree, and its gradually growing from a animalistic fixated on the now state to full self-awareness. It can temporarliy collapse when fight and flight reflexes override the expensive reflection. It can permanently be lowered if a mental sickness (or a neuro-diverse adaption to more warlike states of humanity) gets triggered by stressfull circumstances.

And there is also a zoo of complexity when it comes to "sentience", meaning there are those who are "great thinkers in the subconcious" and can not explain there thought process. There are levels of sentience and almost automated task, were the subconcious kicks in and the sentient human just "dissolves" for a moment, like driving home in a car. Its a fascinating topic.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blindsight_(Watts_novel) Obligatory Watts Reference, cause his book really does have a interesting look on the zoo of humanity.

Re:Life after Guantanamo: 'We are still in jail' on Monday June 13, 2022 @11:19AM (#31726821)
Yes, yes, uninterceptable. But there are Kessler sats up there who intercept the once un-interceptable ICBMs and there are toys down near the ground, that can intercept hypersonic missiles. All it takes is hard glorified buckshot, the detection is were its still at. And that is getting better all the time. Which is exactly the problem. All those bloated behemoths of the past, are running out of time.. they are not crisis stable and have nothing compelling going for them.

OP is refering to the only way to get support from google or even attention. Produce keywords that flag it as a liability or lawsuit issue. \n Ironically, highly paid lawyers are googles only reliable reachable support.\n

Sometimes when you try to gamble a system and the system can gamble you right back, you pay dearly, in this case by having highly paid lawyers do telephone support.

Re:I quit the tech industry (2015) on Wednesday June 08, 2022 @04:28AM (#31664703)
Its particularly bitter in the big ones. You develop something cool, they patent it and then put the patent "right on the office fridge, that way we get to see it every day" and there the innovation hangs and suffers and you realize not only did you work in vain, you made the life for true entrepaneurs harder for a long time and blocked innovation for years to come.

Then you get promoted and oversee the same procedure of poisoning humanitys well executed by a younger generation.

Outrageous ego is sort of a pre-requisit if you want to outlive a established dogma/organization you are going up against, which will punnish non-conformity on every step - either that or you are doing a sort of "secret agent" subversion with a cell like structure on the inside.

The irony being that israel has "solved" water problems in agriculture largely, by reusing waste water and drip irrigation and simply have the users pay for that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_supply_and_sanitation_in...

This sounds like a typical US thing. Suffering from a solveable problem, while creating the maximum public drama and having the society incapable of reform as a sort of greek-tragedy-background chorus humming nimby.

Should such topics be removed similar to us-healthcare to give important topics with actual solution discussions more room?

Eh, inheritence is relatively performance friendly.. all the stuff is after all wrapped into one onion shaped object. The problem starts with pointers - aka loose composition and not having "work-bundles" for the hootloop, which usually ideally come as arrays of work-packages.

Re:Plagiarized in a plagiarism atonement essay on Wednesday May 18, 2022 @02:47AM (#31419915)
Maybe use plagiarism to detect influence of thought & ideas as trees instead and reward accordingly? Problem is though, that rewards self-promoters instead of rigorous scientists.
The only thing that I can remember helping against such actions, is the exponential need for confirmation by intent.

Means, if you delete one small file you need one confirmation, if you delete thousands, you need a intent stating i expect thousand files to be deleted. Same goes for size. So not a okay button, but instead a form allowing you to enter the dimension of the intented outcome. 100 files max, 1 gb max deleted.

If the request goves over the intent, the system aborts.

thanks..
Re:Social animals seek power in surprisingly complex ways on Tuesday April 19, 2022 @04:04AM (#31080668)
The idea of the social animal is MADness. The anti-social predator is the mutual assured destruction from the outside. If i scream or cry, we all will suffer, it is in your interest to have me being well. Else be tigers, dragons and bears, oh my, bearing down on us.

Now, if we are all uniform fit, it might be interesting to conspire to produce one unfit to feed to tigers, lions and bears. Thus mobbing is the creating of a sacrfice of the social unfit and a filter functionality of old society against the brutes.

Now for the rule of law. The rule of law is the ability control mobbing by majority vote, aka religion. We mob a class of humans into social service, give them power and withold power, if they refuse to uphold basic contract society.

Thus regressive behaviour is a sexual selection criteria and contract religion unavoidable. Human society is nothing form and shapeable, but limited in a special ed way.

Which is why humanity will not go to space today.

Nor tomorrow.

We will spend about 300 years fixing the flaws we inheritted in something close to special ed, with social implants and learning self-control.

No, you can not vote on that.

Neither can the murderous dictator you want to push your agenda.

StarTrek is not djungle creature wheel chair accesible.

Its nice that the whole gathered knowledge of the fqalantir research is slowly leaking outwards though. Humanism is not comfort, humanism is to try to become self aware of the horrible & flawed in us and repair.

Comfortable pandering to the emotions we inherited is regressive.

To punish a car-driver for his rewritten accident memories cause of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saccade , no matter how just it feels and how much he feels he deserves it, is foolish. Instead force to car to adhere to speed limits, as the creature that drives is always retarded.

There needs to be the ability to have a "grown up" conversation, without the "retarded" interrupting by chanting "marx & evangelical" texts && just preaching a return "to the natural state" which is just "instinct feels good" praising every buffon chanting "for the return to the savannah". Downvote away all you want, you priests and believers, the dead are more interesting conversation anyway.

Re:A dirty dish by the sink can be a big marriage problem on Wednesday April 13, 2022 @11:53AM (#31016193)
There are examples though, were this death by a thousand pin-pricks is a attempt at "takeover" aka expecting to be in control of everything your partner does and using emotional blackmail should he not retreat at once.

At the end of this, you become a stranger in your own life, programmed into the small details by somebody else, who then leaves you because you are "boring and predictable".

The absolute insanity was, that this drove bread prices through the roof, as us surplus was converted from food-aid output into ethanol and thus started the arab spring and syrian civil war. This law dominoed into ISIS.

Re:Beavers back in London after 400-year absence on Saturday March 19, 2022 @03:49AM (#30732005)
A terraforming animal meets a terraforming animal, to find out while its ancestors extincted the terraforming aninmal previously.

Beavers will build dams and lodges into the infrastructure, will undermine the whole river bank and start damning up canals. Its easy to cheer this on from a nature in the abstract loving position.

But in the real world, this results in the need for constant repairs and downgarded performance.

If the headline was "German bombers drop smart anti-infrastructure water-bombletts into thames \ blitz getting more expensive by the day \ pratchett fans cheer for modern Ankh Morpork" it would describe a similar situation, without the disney googles and nobody would celebrate it.
