Re:Uber starts self-driving car pickups in Pittsburgh on Wednesday September 14, 2016 @09:31AM (#12496646)
I live just a bit outside of pittsburgh, but I'm not in town often enough to need an uber. I'm still probably going to head down and try to get picked up by one, though.
Re:Spraying Magnetic Stripe Cards with Iron Filings on Tuesday July 21, 2015 @03:44PM (#9925198)
I remember requesting a stripe reader when I first saw something about them just spitting out the info, and by the time I got it they were already encrypted.
Re:Spraying Magnetic Stripe Cards with Iron Filings on Tuesday July 21, 2015 @03:43PM (#9925190)
That doesn't explain why it's zeroed everywhere except for a few spots, though.
Re:Strengthening 2-Step Verification with Security Key on Tuesday October 21, 2014 @11:17AM (#8487755)
I'm just too lazy to put in the code from my phone.
Re:Avoiding systemd isn't hard on Tuesday October 21, 2014 @10:52AM (#8487632)
Systemd is great. I've used sockets for ssh, I use the timers instead of cron, everything goes smoothly and works really well.

I don't get the hate, I love it.

Re:HBO is finally going to let you watch its shows without cable on Wednesday October 15, 2014 @01:30PM (#8460117)
Spend the $35 and check out a chromecast. If I'm remembering properly, a friend with comcast had no issues shooting HBO go over to it.
Re:CVE-2014-6271: Remote code execution through bash on Wednesday September 24, 2014 @02:18PM (#8363132)
I know you're just teasing, but I've got a machine with an arch install from over two years ago that's still running great. Just did an -Syyu to get bash updated.
Re:How Memorizing “$19.05” Can Help You Outsmart the MTA on Friday September 05, 2014 @11:30AM (#8274425)

Re:Show HN: New project for on-demand chat rooms on Thursday April 24, 2014 @03:36PM (#7642442)
There are plenty of web IRC clients.
I've used mtpaint before, it works well for what it's for.
Re:How KitKat 4.4 Killed Android on Tuesday February 18, 2014 @01:34PM (#7260005)
Basically, apps will be restricted to their own bit of the SD card, they can still use it, just not put things in there all willy-nilly. That sounds great to me.

Occupation: Funeral attendant

Company: Food Giant

I say "You're welcome" or "Stop!" when people sneeze, and everyone seems to get a kick out of it.
Re:Ask HN: What Podcasts Do You Listen To? on Wednesday November 20, 2013 @03:18PM (#6770847)
On the non-tech side, give caustic soda a shot. The guys are hilarious and it's amazing fun.
That's what it's for, that's why it's called ALERT.

Jokes aside, having something show up on the page would probably work better.

Re:They said this hack was impossible on Tuesday November 19, 2013 @04:15PM (#6764525)
The article states they they have to be powered up, so airplane mode is still a no-go.
Re:Ask HN: Will you play video games on a next-gen console? on Tuesday November 19, 2013 @02:43PM (#6763841)
Watch Dogs will be the tipping point for me, I think.
Re:My tmux setup on Saturday November 16, 2013 @12:14PM (#6745473)
no patching for vertical and horizontal splits (I know screen doesn't do one of them without a fair bit of work).

tmux isn't a dead project.

Spirit of exploration? I started with tmux and no screen experience, but I've converted a few people to tmux by them just giving it a chance, basically.

Re:My tmux setup on Saturday November 16, 2013 @12:11PM (#6745461)
I ctrl+b with my left hand only. Pinky on left ctrl, index finger on b. I've never had any issues with it.
Re:Coin on Thursday November 14, 2013 @03:04PM (#6735129)

Re:Vim After 11 Years on Tuesday February 19, 2013 @01:02PM (#5245868)

Just kidding, tmux for life.

Re:Diablo in JavaScript on Tuesday February 19, 2013 @12:52PM (#5245801)

Re:Kinda like apt-get, but for Windows on Wednesday February 06, 2013 @12:03PM (#5177484)
It's the same as going "I'll just save this folder on / so I don't have to remember the path later".
In the same case, I could say that, because I can't 100% recreate a Pollock, that it's incredibly precise and subtle.

Re:Linux 3.7 released on Tuesday December 11, 2012 @02:31PM (#4906325)
:( I just upgraded my arch a few days ago to 3.6.9, and now I'll have to do it again.
Re:Linux 3.7 released on Tuesday December 11, 2012 @02:30PM (#4906315)
Debian was my first linux distro and moving from stable to testing repos the first time was a real pain in the ass. After doing it once or twice, and reading a ton of stuff and learning what was actually going on when I was changing settings, I was much better off.
Re:Make Better Select Boxes with Chosen on Wednesday June 06, 2012 @04:47PM (#4076137)
I'm a fan of the look of the transient scrollbars, not so much that they disappear though.
