Re:What shall I teach my son? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @08:18PM (#50174488)
Strategy shifted, will focus less on code other than basics, but I'm still going to teach my daughter how to reason and problem solve.

Learning what you want to create and how it should generally be done is a learned skill, and it helps it other parts of life.

Nothing to do with code, and it's a superpower in the age of ai. Someone has to talk to the AI for money.

Pretty sure dogs "understand" us because they are good pack animals. Similar to how they are paired with large cats in captivity.

Not because we are similar, just they are evolved for companionship. That and 15-17k years of forced domestication.

Go watch Claveman and Tankmen if you haven't seen them. Work of art.
Birth rates are down. And you used "traditional Halloween party", yes that's what you think happens traditionally, but what if you just opened cosplay category on Pornhub and didn't go to the party to meet your potential mate? Seems easier right? That's what they are getting at.

It's not a full replacement, but it's enough to keep people content with the status quo.

Re:America.gov – Whatever you need from government, start here on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @09:12PM (#49903142)
There's nothing more American than having multiple approaches to the same ideals, the great experiment.

Now you can either use AI or the old way. I see no problem with it.

words don't seem to mean anything anymore.

clickbait headline should be changed, not a 0-day.

Re:How to Write with an LLM on Monday September 21, 2026 @06:34AM (#49785436)
It's not for you, it's for the sessions later. Personally I let it save every last tidbit in the commit details, why not.
Nah the GOP never had fangs.

They can't even get the SAVE act passed.

Loomer doesn't speak for me, and no idea what you're talking about.

I have no problems with legal immigrants. I married into a first generation family of immigrants, and like everyone else my ancestors were immigrants to this country.

It does a disservice to conflate the two. Immigrants worked hard to be here, illegal immigrants are a drain on everyone, including legal immigrants.

Says the person not responding to what I said, you're just talking at me telling me to change without considering your situational awareness may be limited.

Maybe your side has malicious intent and you should re-evaluate what the real motives are under the faux morality cloak.

It's a temporary pause in INTERVIEWS, not the entire process. The pause is to train people to analyze whether that person would be dependent on public services.

Unfortunately our public services are overloaded by illegal immigrants, this is needed.

And what does that have to do with GP conflating stats meant for immigrants with illegal immigrants?

That doesn't disagree with what I said.

After WWII they were distributed chapters (Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Invisible Empire, Imperial Klans of America, National Knights, etc.)

Those later leaders are only leaders of that chapter/cell, not a single leader.

Distributing your hate does not make you immune is my point.

That's a silly rubric. Loosely organized groups have cells with leaders, not a single one.

That specific Antifa chapter's cell leaders can be found in the link above.

The KKK didn't have a single leader either after WWII, it was distributed chapters. So does that mean they weren't a terrorist group anymore?

And the Juggalo fans didn't coordinate to go riot / cause violence, not the same as either of those.

I was against the Feds designating Juggalos as a "loosely-organized hybrid gang". That was ridiculous.

But this is not the same. Antifa leaders and cell members have been charged and convicted, getting caught coordinating riots.

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/leader-antifa-cell-members-no...

And we all saw the "summer of love" in 2020. Personally I want to see more accountability.

I know Antifa may be popular here, but those riots ruined businesses, got people killed, and caused an enormous amount of damage.

I believe the talking point was "antifa is a myth", quite a few politicians parroted that.

And being a loosely organized group does not grant you some sort of protection from your actions.

> you just use less overall cooling water.

yeah... that's the point right?

Hybrid systems keep the primary process fluid in a closed loop, they spray water on pads to cool the coils during the hotter parts. Basically a stop gap when air cooling is not enough.

There's also close loop systems that lose none, it's just more expensive to build. They are already being deployed in areas with scarce water. Microsoft and a quite a few others already built a few.

The worst designs evap up to 80%. New designs use closed-loop system where very none to little evaps (0-6%) depending on the system.

Many designs in-between with air cooling, hybrid, etc.

Still a non-issue, it's going back into the water cycle.

Any water issue would be specific to the municipality, it's not a national issue, nor is it an issue specific to datacenters, it's true for anything being built in the town (golf courses, power plants, etc.)

It's to put water usage in perspective. I think the best example is golf courses.

If you think datacenters are a waste of water and you want to do a global campaign to stop building / shutdown golf courses first, then your values don't really make sense.

Golf is pure leisure, and uses 531 gallons compared to 17.4 gallons a year.

Datacenters on the other hand, power the site we're using right now to discuss the "problem". You wouldn't be able to have this conversation without them.

--

Why aren't people screaming constantly about golf courses and pressuring to shut them down?

Why the focus on datacenters if the bigger win is staring you right in the face (if you're that concerned about water usage)?

It's not about the water.

You'd have to look locally at individual datacenter projects then and not be against all of them.

If it's really the case that a local municipality grants a new datacenter to be built that already has a stressed water supply, the people in the area should complain, and if nothing is done then we can be mad at just that ONE datacenter/company. Not the entire industry.

But I just don't see that happening. Noone is going without water because of datacenters. Noone is going without water other than people in California who get there's stolen from farms. That's a real issue, not a hypothetical.

a little evaps, goes back into the water cycle.

non-issue, chinese propaganda to get us to slow down.

unfortunately some people parrot it, but most are smart enough to know it's bs.

you'd think they would want to shutdown golf courses first, it's pure leisure and much more water, but it's not about that :)

Re:SpacetimeDB: A Short Technical Review on Sunday August 23, 2026 @03:46PM (#49411884)
Even the author said:

> Of course, there’s not a lot of studios building MMORPGs right now, and the ones that are building any kind of multiplayer games really tend to prefer their own in-house backends

So which one is it, most mmorpgs build their own backends or clockwork shouldn't have wasted their time building their own backend?

They had to build it anyway, might as well sell it. Similar to Epic and their Unreal engine, right?

Re:Stop Making TUIs on Saturday August 22, 2026 @02:11AM (#49397044)
You can't ssh into a swift app.
Re:PostgreSQL for Everything on Thursday August 20, 2026 @03:29AM (#49371519)
yeah essentially, see electricsql

though they also have "pglite" running in wasm.

same concept though, sync slices to an embedded db.

I'd be willing to bet somewhere in that conversation he said family printer or something.

Seems an oddly specific thing to hone in on otherwise.

by using something like iroh.

basically an embedded tailscale.

Re:Are we offloading too much of our thinking to AI? on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @11:54AM (#48908764)
"we" no. just allows me to think about the stuff that matters.

and work on things that would usually be out of my element.

if you aren't thinking more than ever, you're using ai wrong.

Re:Write code like a human will maintain it on Friday July 10, 2026 @12:54PM (#48862428)
I'm talking about the scale. This was a large app with 60+ screens, 400+ component ui kit, and very rich features.

And had to work on ios/android/web.

I'd consider myself a pretty fast programmer, and I grind 12 hours at a time, everyday until it's done.

But between all humans it's a rounding error compared to the output of an agent swarm.

For personal projects, I pick and choose how much to use AI. But for work, agents go brrrr.

Re:Write code like a human will maintain it on Friday July 10, 2026 @11:27AM (#48861277)
It's not a hyperbole. I know how long it takes me to do something.

And the last project truly would have taken me 6 months.

It was done in 3 days after fable 1:1 the design, setup the infrastructure, and turned all tasks and specs into code.

Everything was done day 1, but it took 2 days to manually clean it, test, and correct small issues.

--

But that does make sense you're seeing "hyperboles" grow, AI is getting better very quickly, so you'll see the time saved estimations grow.

Less than a year ago I'd say it was saving me about a month of work, mainly because it sucked at UI.

Re:Write code like a human will maintain it on Friday July 10, 2026 @10:13AM (#48860246)
He just means the development pace has picked up with AI.

I've been doing this for 15 years, I love coding manually.

However, with AI-assistance I can do projects in 3 days what would take 6 months.

It's not vibe coding, everything is controlled, reviewed, understood, refined by me in the end.

But still the dev time is magnitudes faster. I would not hire anyone that is adverse to AI.

I'm actually happier. With age and a family I was getting a bit slower.

Now I have more time to spend with them AND I'm getting more done. Including personal projects I never had the bandwidth for.

Re:Nano Banana 2 Lite on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @03:41PM (#48752099)
He wasn't, but his dad was at the time. That's the point.

My criticism is not of Hunter, but of Joe Biden. The last D president. The most popular D (by votes) in history.

It's worse for people to entirely to benefit purely based on if their dad is in charge. That's nepotism.

However Kushner is in office, he does work on peace deals in the middle east. He has an official title and does work with many countries and many people. It makes sense for him to make connections over there.

It's not unreal to believe he met people in SA and they all wanted to make a business deal on their own. That's individuals making their own decisions at noone's expense. No demands (like firing a prosecutor). Not quid pro quo.

It's unreal to believe Hunter had any knowledge about Ukrainian oil and being paid in diamonds was legit, plus his business partner outed him. And all while his dad was handling relations with that country, and while he bragged about getting the prosecutor fired that was investigating the company. That's quid pro quo. That's nepotism. That's corruption.
