Why would an individuals fertility be increased because the fertility of his group is increased? The gene would not propagate unless he has more children than his peers. There is no evidence of evolution by natural selection to begin with, though.
The notre dame belongs to a traditional institution. It should be reconstructed exactly the same as before, not by the modern aesthetics of people who don't even attend church.
Next: a protest to protest the retaliation for the protest against retaliation
You should re enable it. Amber alerts are when a kid has been kidnapped and is probably going to raped or killed. You should do your part to watch for the perpetrator.
I have yet to be told why it is important for there to be as many women in STEM as men apart from statements that I'm sexist for not knowing
I wonder what the lowest limit on work-time is for productivity. That would be interesting to know. Also, companies could only pay people for that many hours.
I would bet the reason it was mentioned was to make China sound technologically advanced. Similar to when they spread the lie about being a leader in green technology around when the Olympics were hosted there. They established faux solar panels on street lights and then took them back down 2 years later. There's no reason to believe China about that detail or anything really.
Why would China become less authoritarian? They can continue to grow and gain power without doing so.
That's creepy to associate young people's blood plasma with nectar of the gods.
The funny part of it to me is the cognitive dissonance of people who both believe that a change of less than 1 degree in global mean temperature over a century will destroy the Earth, but also that we'll be terraforming Mars by then.
stalin was worse than hitler. caused much more death and misery.
Turns out when you save the world from Hitler, you don't have to be a paragon.
i think by globalism he means that free trade brings with it the free movement of labor across countries
>what type of alternate reality could exist where foreigners would be polite enough to not, like, turn a wrench or run an assembly line for cheaper than Americans did in the 50s. We as a country don't have the option of 'choosing' an alternate economic reality where developing country wages aren't cheaper than ours
the illusion of non-choice on this issue began when bill buckley reformed the right wing into free-traders. we could vote to not let foreigners in to our country and to establish high tariffs on foreign goods. we choose not to. not saying whether that's right or wrong. just saying it is a choice.
the US constitution only applies to US persons. someone living in china doesn't actually have freedom of speech protected by our constitution.
Someone who's not a developer with student loan debt might call that greed as well. We are all very sympathetic to ourselves.
> Plumbers, construction workers, contractors, lawn care/snowplows.
You say an electric pickup truck is a great status symbol, but I doubt it is to the majority of people in those professions you just mentioned. The people who view pickup trucks as a status symbol want massive and loud ones. Electric cars are very light, and very quiet.
Why would an electric pickup truck sell well? Needing to use a pickup truck isn't correlated with caring about electric cars. No one wants to try to find a gas station with an electric car charger in the middle of the countryside, where most people who actually need a pickup truck live. This doesn't pass my sanity check.
They should have taken the layoffs as a sign their company produces bad content and to get a real job.
because steel is necessary for war, and it's dangerous to rely on foreign nations to provide that
I suppose they're good if you really do need to escape the reality you're in. But I regret the amount of time I spent playing MMO's as a child/teenager. I invested all my time in virtual worlds instead of the real one, and had no friends because of it. I grew out of it, but I wonder how different my life would be now if I had done so earlier.
Sounds like they finally learned to code
Too many people go to college today. A degree used to carry prestige. Now it mainly shows you're impulsive enough to take out $60,000+ in debt when you don't even know what you want to major in.
The issue with most news outlets is that they're either mainstream ones that are liberal echo chambers, or conservative upstarts which reactively go just as far in the other direction. Imagine a news organization where every level of every department had to have a 50/50 split between registered Republicans and Democrats. I think that would prevent bias from overrunning the outlets like it has today.
This reads like propaganda for the Chinese state. Remember that they're a dictatorship where public servants aren't allowed to practice a religion and citizens are punished if they draw too much attention to negative views on the Party. It might be practical to cozy up to them in anticipation of them being the new superpower, but that doesn't make it moral to not try to stop it.
