I don't need chocolates, just give me a new computer each day!
Unsigned though
Well, let me tell you about qmail. Each part of that setup has only privilege that it needs to go it's job.

Seems a good design and very few problems given its age.

Postfix seems next best by design.

How many parts of least privilege is message acceptance to mailbox in exchange? I suspect one program image.

Re:Distribution Release: Window Maker Live 0.96 on Sunday October 15, 2023 @06:15PM (#37893895)
There used to be a site that had desktop themes showcased in the late 90s or early 2000's that was popular, csnt remember the name of it now.

I used to look at the windowmaker and KDE themes in that daily.

Nostalgia, would like to see them again.

You still love apple products? This sounds like Stockholm syndrome, I seriously mean that. You are paying your captors.

They also save by not refunding an oversubscribed seat too. Win win win for airlines.

Hey, unrelated to DBs, but my view is WSL is boring, seems a VM with mounts, but wine feels much cooler.

Interesting view with cloud vendors, there does seem to be a shift from traditional LAMP stack.

Not everyone wants to edit in a browser, maybe many people can't due to their computers spec.

Feceboom is over it is a shit website and nobody cared about your friend count.

Their bubble has burst (and rightly so after CA scandal).

The rest of the industry will use fecebook's news as advice, sadly.

Keeping exchange virus free with a Linux scanner at the mx.
Debian is free for the consumer, the producers put the effort in. The end user is expected to fill bug reports in, may e that can be seen as not free entirey as some effort is expected at the consumer end perhaps?
The one good thing about IDEs is their key bindings when they're like vim. Everything else sucks. I use vim with debuggers.

Nothing seems to have changed for the worse over decades.

It doesn't get in the way and seems to work the same everywhere.

Re:The Simpsons Hit and Run leaked source code on Thursday July 13, 2023 @02:42AM (#36705741)
Some v92 "winmodems" were more glorified sound cards so needed CPU. If the PC was busy, sonetithe line could drop. A 33.6 would be hardware, so there could be a time when slower becomes faster due to CPU load.

All external 56k modems were hardware, some people wouldn't risk an internal card for fear of ending up with a driver based device.

Ah good ol' days of BBS and wvdial for internet.

If it must go to internet, a MITM SSL proxy cache out of GH would help.

The problem is within GH's network, a 90s ISP would have blocked spammy users, GH should at least operate like an ISP if random stuff can execute and reach the 'net.

Re:How to escape meeting hell as an engineer? on Friday June 23, 2023 @05:48PM (#36452604)
Online meetings, yes, in person though, more polite to say you have another meeting to go to, but you're available online if anything urgent.

Nice.

Does anyone know of any all-in-one hardware that has ADSL, 5 switch ports and WiFi, that is Linux capable?

Re:Sennheiser HD 555 to HD 595 Mod on Sunday June 18, 2023 @07:21AM (#36379159)
We are like 11 and 1 o'clock, so close yet so far.

I can't see 100 quid getting five times the headphone experience. Given these have lasted a decade, I don't see myself needing to replace the five times over during the rest of my life. I don't think my ears would be able to distinguish the difference, especially not from pc sound output.

Re:Sennheiser HD 555 to HD 595 Mod on Sunday June 18, 2023 @06:17AM (#36378858)
Hd201,about £20 when I bought them ten or more years back. Worth the money. Anything more than this and you're into diminished returns, it just doesn't make sense to step outside the lower part of £30.
