Re:GPT-Rosalind-6 System Card Addendum on Monday November 02, 2026 @11:29AM (#50339290)
It’s clear to me that open source will rule at the end of the day as everyone wants AI and nobody can rely on U.S crop/gov anymore.
Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:01PM (#50292310)
Maybe that’s why nobody “heard” about it. It’s funny that we have companies bragging about not using stolen content to train their AI.
Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:51PM (#50292115)
Google really had developed only 2 good products(not including acquisitions such as YouTube): search and gmail. Their primary cow to milk has been search. The rest (I.e cloud compute) is not really a moat. I think we are facing a revolution/rotation where the these companies may start to become just “old businesses”(I.e IBM, AOL).
Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:46PM (#50292027)
Nobody can do that because they were all trained on stolen content
Re:Type Server Protocol on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:43PM (#50249811)
Go is awesome and has great ecosystem. I think if you want to just deliver Go is one of the best language out there. Of course as long as the project makes sense(I.e no client side/GUI stuff, there it gets messy)
Re:Type Server Protocol on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:41PM (#50249796)
it could be worse like …PHP

Pfff, that’s fairy land territory. There is no “could”. It’s happening as we speak. There is no fine to be paid as everything is behind a gag order. And if it’s not secret enough they do it in public anyway.i.e:

I think billions would be more accurate
Re:Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone on Friday October 23, 2026 @09:40AM (#50208823)
I agree with you but by this time we know that this has become business as usual. I mean the U.S lead the way: Spy anyone including friends and allies. Find what they talk with their mother as well, maybe it would serve the orange pumpkin well in a negotiation.
Re:Swedish government offices to ban ChatGPT and Claude on Friday October 23, 2026 @09:21AM (#50208578)
The contracts are really worthless if for example Trump wants to share the transcripts with Putin. At this point I don’t understand why governments would outsource any of their data services to 3rd parties (I.e outside of the EU). EU should establish an EU gov cloud program and just run the models themselves for all the EU countries(under license of course). They would probably get better bargaining power as well.
A bit humiliating. It really seems that unless something magical or extreme happens this could be the end of U.S hegemony because this is different than Afghanistan. Here you have a state army that seems to be able to stand and inflict damage to the mighty U.S Army. This looks more or less like Russia being pushed out of Ukraine as Russian troops were not prepared for an actual invasion.

I am not sure if it can be marked just as a kind of “bad season”.

China makes great technology and the companies work as intended. One thing people don’t understand is that shareholders are not a priority. The companies are supposed to provide “social stability” not growth. If a company grows too much it must either share its profits with the society or just be brought down. As you can observe shareholders are nowhere in the picture. Check BABA as an example.

That’s why so many Chinese people invested in properties.

They are the future as long as someone is releasing them. From what I read lately it could be that OpenAI and Anthropic will get the regulation they caved for and unexpectedly China will stop releasing good open models.
So you are telling me that after eons, people will rise again as Lego figurines?
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:30AM (#50164029)
Let’s hope this is just the beginning of bringing the drama queens (Dario and Sam) closer to planet Earth.
Re:Muse Spark Open on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:33PM (#50109052)
Apple didn’t figure out yet that Google’s AI performance is nothing like Google search. Google’s AI is just junk, worse than open Chinese models. If someone (Facebook,OpenAI) gets a hold on the “killer” app, Apple won’t be able to do anything to truly compete. They will be late and end up with a social network like “find my friends” or whatever that useless thing was that nobody used.
Re:Who Taught the Machines Mathematics? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:21PM (#50108860)
You could have done that before AI as well, albeit with a little bit more effort. Plagiarism has been quite common.

That being said, if whatever Astra is spitting is really innovative, the prompt author understands it, proof checks it and can support it in front of a live evaluator I think it’s good enough for me. In practice I think that prompt would be just one of many, perhaps also some “old school” evaluation and improvement before the thesis is done. Again, I see the AI as a tool.

You could ask Astra to generate you an e-commerce website with one prompt. Can you show it to someone and claim it as your project? Can you actually use that in production?

Maybe I missed something but I think at some point his social media accounts were suspended. I think may be a hint that the “establishment” didn’t make him any favours.

I think he won because the Democratic Party acted like a broken record(and still does) lecturing and belittling a good chunk of the electorate. Chances are that even with so much economic pain and whole clown show, the democrats will lose again if they defy(again)a big part of the electorate.

Yeah, X is one sided thing just like Reddit or CNN is more democrat aligned. I think Facebook was quite anti Trump policies for a while as well.
Re:Who Taught the Machines Mathematics? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @05:18AM (#50101189)
So why do you use computers to communicate and solve problems every day?
Re:Who Taught the Machines Mathematics? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @04:55AM (#50101040)
So what is stopping you from thinking and using the machines as tools? To me it looks like AI is solving the “low level/grunt work” problems and leaves us the important stuff such as steering it, making products using the discoveries, find new problems to solve/discover and so on…

I use coding as an example, I am glad I can ask AI agents to do all the boilerplate coding so that I can focus on building actual products rather than spending a month to get an API just right. It’s not like I am no longer thinking about the code or the end result. I do but only where it actually matters. Just punishing myself to not use AI would be like writing code with pen and paper. Some people enjoy it but that’s just a personal exercise not an industrial tool. I definitely enjoyed coding without IntelliSense and I think it made me a better programmer but definitely it’s not something I would recommend people to do on their day to day job.

Re:OpenCode 2.0 on Thursday October 15, 2026 @02:34AM (#50100021)
Can someone tell me what am I missing if I just use the Claude extension via vscode instead of opencode? I use codex as well but only as mcp for reviews
Re:Who Taught the Machines Mathematics? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:55AM (#50086996)
But that’s not something specific to mathematics, is it? I am bit against “safeguards”. That reads more like censorship to me from some kind of high priests.
Re:Who Taught the Machines Mathematics? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:31AM (#50086683)
So do you care more about the way someone solves a problem or about result(the fact that it solves it)? For a student I think the answer is obvious because he has to understand the basics but for a researcher we don’t ask bio researcher to do research with pen and paper alone, do we or just using some deep thinking. AI is a tool. Get over it. Math is not an art.
Re:Who Taught the Machines Mathematics? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:23AM (#50086586)
What exactly to protect? I really don’t get what this fuss is all about.

We still need math research just like we still coding or software or cpu research regardless of how many problems the AI solves.

To me it feels like a bio researcher complaining that his field has no future because AI started to cure diseases so now instead to spend 100 years to run experiments someone can do it in a day with AI(obviously it’s not the case yet).

Are they guys upset that people can “run math” without hiring a math guy?

Re:Do Frameworks Matter Anymore? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:11AM (#50084096)
I think frameworks are more important than ever in this AI/vibecoding world if you want to keep any chance for your code to be readable again and not become just a pile of machining that nobody quite gets what it does. The more optioned the framework is the better. The more familiar you are with the framework the better chances you can actually deliver a working thing not just some slop that looks like working.

Source: experience. I decided at some point just to vibecode a fairly complex project with gpt 5.5 sol and fable but it ended up quite bad, impossible to make it work in the end. Rewrote it with my framework(s), skills, lab conventions etc and it works flawlessly.

Even better I can figure out immediately if Claude or codex goes off the rails just by seeing the snippets. It just shows the AI models are just not ready to build things “unattended” without proper “steering”. Frameworks and other constrains are a way to steer the AI. Of course bloated frameworks would just make things worse.

This made me understand there are very low chances to just vibecode whatever “business” you want to try and succeed. You still need to know your “s**t”.

Some of them are for sure. Someone has to do the backup of transcripts and metadata
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:30PM (#50074426)
Yeah, I think this is it! Google tried to hype their model but they have no chance against queen Dario. Perhaps they should just delete Gmail and say that Gemini did it. That way they would get some attention …
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:28PM (#50074371)
Because you have an android phone and don’t want to mess around with anything else(i.e the same reason people just use internet explorer on windows) or you hold Google stock so you want to support your investment :)
Apple forgot to mention Safari not being open source but rather tied to a proprietary platform not to mention Safari on mobile kept in a short leash to protect the AppStore.
