*app

Can still access on a browser…for now.

Honestly, the sooner reddit completes its transition to irrelevance, the better.

I feel like a properly decentralised iteration is probably not that far off.

I read somewhere that they suspect it was trigged by excessive exposure to UV.

Aus has some of the most extreme UV and highest rates of skin cancer globally.

I'd also guess that we have pretty high rates of heavily tattooed people particularly in those coastal high UV areas.

"she'll be right" =/= "it's gonna be fine"

More of a it's not going to be fine but we will deal with it.

1000+KMs away in/not far from the capital city of Queensland it's not unheard of to have a multi-day power outage after a severe storm.

Considering QLD is almost 6x the size of Norway it's not actually that bad.

Successive Australian government's have done everything they can to trash academia in Australia, all the talent moves onto greener pastures overseas.

Our universities are addicted to foreign student $$$ and will become less and less relevant as countries who've taken decisive action like China, India, and parts of Latin America/south Africa start to bloom.

We'll likely have a MAGA like government within an election or two, can't imagine that will help.

This is awesome. You're a legend.

A short non-exhuastive history of t3ch moral panics: The Printing Press - 15th Century The Industrial Revolution - 18th-19th Century The Telephone - Late 19th Century Cinema and Early Media - 20th Century Video Games - Late 20th Century Social Media - 21st Century

Okay, maybe that last one hasnt gone so well..

He is kinda right though, music has become a passive feed, if anything I welcome the slopening, if it brings back live, local, experience based music then that's a win.

" the review, only four side-effects out of 66 listed were found to have any association with taking statins, and only in a very small proportion of patients.

The four were:

liver test changes minor liver abnormalities urine changes tissue swelling/swollen ankles There was no increase in liver disease such as hepatitis or liver failure, suggesting that the liver blood test changes did not lead to more serious liver problems."

Re:Why do I still use a notebook to track my lifts? on Thursday February 05, 2026 @04:03AM (#46897465)
I hear you and do a similar thing but then forget my notebook and so just ego lift till I injure myself, rinse, repeat.

I had set up something similar to what you’re talking about using shortcuts on iOS but I find myself coming back to the app “strong”.

Ultimately I think a notebook is the best way to do it but I use strong because my phone is terminally in my pocket, and it’s lets you view and export the data in different ways.

Re:Why is Hacker News popular? on Monday February 02, 2026 @05:43AM (#46854520)
Definitely
Yeah but at some point you would assume the guy would have accumulated some coolness?
I've met people on the spectrum that are cool.
"(girls FTW)" if it wasn't so totally in character I would have assumed it was fabricated.

I'm honestly just unsure how he has managed to achieve so much without managing to be at least a little bit cool.

Re:Why is Hacker News popular? on Sunday February 01, 2026 @05:03AM (#46844980)
Because its a not a growth oriented social media platform.

Its a link aggregator with good etiquette around commenting, no in-jokes or meta-drama.

Re: on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @10:23PM (#46805398)
I feel personally attacked!...

You are right though, ive loved tinkering especially some if the cool linux based handhelds but i always come back to mobile/tablet because my limiting resource is time and android/ios kinda just works.

Re:Nexphone-A phone that runs Android, Linux, and Windows? on Monday January 26, 2026 @05:48AM (#46764084)
I suspect its something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cuntubuntu....

The windows thing is very interesting but samsung and motorola have fairly polished desktop frontends and are available with much snapoier hardwear.

I believe somenifbthe newer pixels are starting to verge on useable docked also.

Thanks man, that’s an interesting side effect, do you have any suspicions as to what’s drive withdrawal, are you Fillmore of your time with intentional valued activity as touched on? Or are you being less impulsive/blowing off steam?

Have there been any productivity changes noticed at work?

I would love a warts and all perspective from anyone thats made the transition to days inbthebUK.
Does anyone else feel like this is an attempt at a poisoned chalice?

If the opposition does well in the mid-terms they have an utter shitshow to clean up, but if that doesn’t happen they get to pull out their own splinter and claim a victory.

I’m really hopeful the rest of the world continues to strengthen trade and cooperation in the absence of US leadership and stability.

Interesting.

I had similar issues with XR methylphenidate and Dex, but concerta and vyvanse were find if I took them first thing.

I suspect a bit insignificant amount of people are slow metabolisers and are having a shit run with stimulants as a result

The XR mechanism is shit compared how vyvanse and concerts manage theirs.

If you’re a slow metaboliser you end up getting a big overlap around 3hours in which can be quite unpleasant, hence the non XR compound

Not off to a great start, only way to set-up and account is to sign in with google.
Re:Elon Musk Cannot Get Away with This on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @02:43PM (#46621750)
I’m in favour of consequences but that’s fairness bias at work, he’s gotten away with so much for so long, its likely it will keep happening and he will live a long life in absolute luxury.
Re:Elon Musk Cannot Get Away with This on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @05:11AM (#46614309)
spoiler alert He will infact get away with this.
Cool. Confer.to for anyone who wants to skip the article.

I've been using duck.ai by duckduckgo which I really like for basic, search engine but better stuff, I hope he pulls this off as well as he did signal, less so all the CIA stuff if that's real.

Re:Young Men Are Lost. A New Book Can Guide the Way on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @05:00AM (#46599055)
Absolute shite.

These behavioural and cultural trends didn't all randomly and spontaneously develop in certain groups the world over, these are the long and short tail outcomes of commodification of education, experience, and attention.

It's not just young people and men, it's a whole of society disruption, but sure buy old mates book of humble brags.

I’m all for it, the work steam is doing has done more for Linux uptake than anything else in the last decade or two, I’m nearly at the point where I don’t need windows, even for work.
Re:Digg.com (Relaunch) on Thursday January 08, 2026 @05:42AM (#46539521)
I got an invite a few weeks ago, it’s basically just reddit I guess..

Top post has ~300 upvotes and ~100 comments.

I also signed up for a MySpace account, I’m also not sure what that is now.

In fact, I don’t even really know what HN is, I just like that there’s no in-jokes or pictures.

Since it’s pretty hard to acquire legally the assumption is that MAS is being used, I’d probably go for 10 iot with updates till 2032.

11 LTSC is heaps better than consumer editions but it’s still shite.

The second anticheat embraces Linux windows is deadskies.

Re:We're Thinking About Addiction Wrong on Wednesday January 07, 2026 @05:00PM (#46533668)
Who’s we, what’re they thinking, and how is it wrong?

I fundamentally agree with the angle of the author(s).

The drug rat thing is a red herring that keeps being used as an anchor to analogise complex and varied behaviours.

The disease model is absolute dogshit, but, it creates the perfect environment for medicalisation and treatment.

And now you have a market.

Nobody needs an explainer on how markets can deviate to create feedback loops, likewise nobody wants to hear that despite plenty of organisations/operations doing great work there are others creating immense harm, misery, and wealth.

My main point is I don’t get the collective we, because the average person has little interaction with models of addiction, I’d argue that most people would struggle to define it, and then the nuance between addiction colloquially (I’m addicted to matcha lattes) vs addiction medically (I’m addicted to opioids) creates even more problems.

No solutions here, just thoughts.

10 isn’t that bad, particularly the iot version.
