What’s the BS with “Open models from teams we trust.”?
Re:Can’t Hear What Actors Are Saying on TV? It’s Not You on Monday November 28, 2022 @12:23PM (#33776414)
I find that even worse than cc.
Nothing was destroyed. Money was just transferred to smarter guys.

No tech can fix incompetence. That being said some say it was just a budget cut(cgi is cheaper if you can't seen anything)
Re:Can’t Hear What Actors Are Saying on TV? It’s Not You on Monday November 28, 2022 @01:30AM (#33770399)
So how do you watch international/foreign movies?
Re:FTX Collapse takes toll on the Bahamas on Monday November 28, 2022 @12:53AM (#33770234)
Indeed but then people found out they don't care about what's behind the ticker (i.e underlying value) as long as its price goes up. You can find the same behaviour on many stocks as well(i.e $AMC more recently).
Re:Ghana plans to buy oil with gold instead of dollars on Monday November 28, 2022 @12:51AM (#33770229)
It's just history(i.e [1] )not conspiracy theories. We are past that. Same thing about surveillance. It used to be "conspiracy theories" but wikileaks and Snowden showed us that the truth is even worse.

I believe Musk is starting to loose its shine unless gets another rabbit out the hat. The Tesla Bot may be a such attempt but it's a hard sell because it's not really something new(i.e Boston Dynamics have been trying it for decades)
But celebrities endorse gambling so how is this any different? Do people really think they are winners if they play online "slot" games?
Re:FTX Collapse takes toll on the Bahamas on Friday November 25, 2022 @08:30PM (#33748923)
> Stocks are different because there’s actually an underlying business beyond “waiting for the next guy”.

I agree but this doesn't change the fact that many people don't care about the underlying business. They just gamble whatever is "hot" or if they think they are smarter they trade the chart. In this way it's no different than crypo "investing". Both can make you rich or get you bankrupt, fast.

Re:Ghana plans to buy oil with gold instead of dollars on Friday November 25, 2022 @05:10PM (#33747366)
Some people still live in denial. I can surely see CIA paying a visit to Ghana's officials.

Indeed, right? Funny fact: Wikileaks is blocked my ISP (in Europe).

When you get into a ponzi scheme with shaddy individuals it's expected you may get burned. You know you are not doing any favor to the society that helped you get wealthy.

I'm sorry that he commited suicide but I can't say I'm sorry that he lost the investment.

Re:FTX Collapse takes toll on the Bahamas on Friday November 25, 2022 @03:50PM (#33746617)
cryptocurrencies don't have to be ponzi schemes but most of them are because the crypto "investors" want to get into ponzi schemes.

They don't "believe" in shitcoin's "white paper" but they believe there are more ponzi buyers.

To be fair most retailers do the same with stocks so it's not that different. I don't even mention CFDs where the vast majority lose. Even "analysts" score various instruments based on "demand"/market sentiment not value.

Re:Ghana plans to buy oil with gold instead of dollars on Friday November 25, 2022 @03:47PM (#33746578)
But only one entity prints dollars so that's the catch/unfair advantage of the U.S.
But there should be no death as the beta is not supposed to be used "in production" (i.e without keeping your hands on the wheel)
Re:Ghana plans to buy oil with gold instead of dollars on Friday November 25, 2022 @11:10AM (#33743713)
>> The Fed decision wasn't important to energy costs anyway, though.

Of course it was. Rate hiking makes the dollar more expensive for anyone buying dollars(to pay for the oil). Were they dealing with gold they would not have this issue. Not to mention if the buyer is a gold producer.

Are we supposed to be sorry for the wealth advisers after their wealthy clients loose their money into crypto investments? If you are wealthy and you invest into crypto you deserve to loose it all!

At least if a start-up fails it may create some value(i.e some open source software, knowledge for developers etc). What value do you generate pouring money into bitcoin minning or fliping "worthless" coins ?

Re:Ghana plans to buy oil with gold instead of dollars on Friday November 25, 2022 @10:07AM (#33743007)
>> Gold is valued in dollars. Oil is valued in dollars.

If a long term contract is signed it protects you from dollar's inflation/volatility as the contract used gold as currency. I think this is important as tomorrow Fed's decision is no longer that important for your energy costs.

The more important part is that if enough contracts are signed in gold(highly unlikely given U.S's oil exports) then the dollar is no longer relevant to the oil price.

I think this is to be expected(sooner or later) for small businesses dealing with "big tech".

You are just a small number in an ocean of "users" so suspending you is really no different than suspending your twitter account. Start taking some responsability folks! Let's stop feeding these walled gardens!

So if you hire 6000 people in Ireland you can doge taxes for all the products sold in Europe, right?
Does this beta has any roadmap to become "stable"? The issue with FSD is the corner cases and I doubt we will see real FSD anytime soon. I would say the beta FSD is the equivalent of an intoxicated driver.
Re:AWS and Blockchain on Monday November 21, 2022 @09:58AM (#33693210)
I fail to see any value other than fliping "worthless" coins. The coins fliping is not working great either which is the reason we have binance and ftx. The real value seems to be for money launderying and scam payments though so there is indeed some value. Crypto payments for real businesses is not feasible. I've tried that and the volatility and transaction fees makes them unusuable.
Re:AWS and Blockchain on Monday November 21, 2022 @08:56AM (#33692477)
I think there would be value but we neeed a real currency(i.e usd) on the blockchain. It's obvious that all those pegged currencies are prone to "bank run" scenarios. Not to mention the fiat conversion ruines the whole experience.

With a real currency we could have at least real open and standards based p2p payments which would be great! Just like with cash offline we would no longer need visa, paypal or banks to transact online.

I know what you are saying but I'm not conflating these separate issues.

The argument was made that UK cannot control its borders from non-EU immigrants because Italy at the time was giving them enough papars so they could travel legally to the UK.

To be honest I cannot recall for sure if they were getting instant italian citizenship or just some form of residency. However in the end they could even get british citizenship because they would live in the UK long enough(i believe it's 5 years) using the EU papers. There was benefits fraud as well.

Unfortunately I cannot find the articles anymore. It's almost like a conspiracy that everything regarding immigration before Brexit is no longer search-able(I know it's just Google's algo discarding old news). Immigration was the issue number 1 for the british people before Brexit. I beleive it's not over yet as european politicians are still ignoring people's concerns on immigration.

>> Does a sermon instantly make it bad?

I think it does when it's "in your face" like the latest movies. It feels like a kind of propaganda that I'm not interested in. I just want to enjoy my time and watch a f*** good and entertaining movie not a jehovah witness sermon or a diversity soup.

Re:Disney Shocker Bob Iger Back as CEO, Bob Chapek Out on Monday November 21, 2022 @12:45AM (#33689250)
I really doubt it. Source: I was a kid. Sex scenes definitely did not fly over. It was something I did not understand and somehow affected my behaviour more than violence between robots.
Re:Disney Shocker Bob Iger Back as CEO, Bob Chapek Out on Sunday November 20, 2022 @11:30PM (#33688769)
I really doubt that kind of stuff passes the cut without approval from Disney executives. Have you watched Eternals?

Disney bought Marvel in 2009 but you are right avout Chapek. It looks like the hope in Disney is lost!
