Agreed. But that’s different from the Reddit style “abolish ice” argument.

“Abolish ICE” doesn’t mean “fix its problems”.

No, it is a lack of imagination to think that abolishing ice is the only solution.
Re:ICE Is Running One of the Largest Anti-Left Surveillance Ops in US ...

completely abolishing ice altogether, is functionally equivalent to having open borders, because they are the people who are supposed to be enforcing immigration law. “Abolish ice” is just as radical as advocating for open borders. How about we fix the problems with ice?

Agreed, but abolishing the agency task with immigration enforcement altogether means… We won’t have immigration enforcement

If there’s no immigration enforcement, that’s functionally equivalent to having open borders. It’s kind of what an open border is. Where is the false equivalency?

Economic migrants are by far the majority in the US. In fact, economic migrants abusing “asylum” have basically made it impossible for the immigration authorities to have a sane asylum policy.

This result is exactly what the anti-Israel coalition wanted. They bet Bibi would go nuts and burn up the remaining global goodwill that Israel had, leaving them isolated.

This is not a tariff issue, unbelievably, but one about reducing competition.
I’m not sure I’m following the argument here, because tariffs are all about protectionism, which is a form of reducing external competition

Yes, but the lag time is crucial. The NY Times estimated that China has 10% the compute capacity of the US. They may catch up, but by that time the US labs could have too much of an advantage

The objectives are wildly different.
Vietnam is more like asking the question, could the US Military occupy all of Iran? Which I think the answer is essentially No, just like Vietnam.
The strait is one small objective , and the US had lots of successes in Vietnam with capturing key strategic areas, they just couldn’t cover that into a successful occupation
