Re:Restrooms along the Norwegian Scenic Routes on Sunday November 01, 2026 @07:17AM (#50324916)
Just came back from a vacation in the UK and I was amazed at how clean everything is. Not a single dog poo or cigarette butt anywhere.

Also their taxes are proportional to wealth and everyone pays them, so good public service. It's not that hard to understand and there is no need to circle around it.

It's virtue signaling with extra steps

I never understood those with the need to ultra optimize every millimeter of their existence and I find this kind of posts extra boring

Re:Why are good developers so wary of agentic development? on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:13PM (#50293481)
Why are good developers so wary of agentic development? Because they are good developers.

Laughed at the 2499 starting price until I saw the 5499
Re:Software may be getting worse, but it used to be horrible on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @04:53PM (#50265648)
That is because good UIs require a lot of work from very smart people, and both of these factors are lacking in today's software industry.
Re:Americans Are Spending More Money to Drive Worse Cars on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @03:58AM (#50162725)
I am sure that your life is better now thanks to the spy device always in your pocket and not because of the advances in medicine, education, human rights...

It is increasingly less and less mine at every iteration. I owned every bit of my dad's 386.

"goods people got in countries that didn't practice capitalism" are generally built to last.

> something has to mediate the resource allocation and effort of society towards providing that want/need at a certain quality/price

Yeah, exactly, not "squeezing every last bit of value out of a product to appease the shareholders", see "enshittification".

With the difference that the diseases cured by antibiotics are not self inflicted, and totally preventable 90% of the time.
Re:Americans Are Spending More Money to Drive Worse Cars on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @01:25AM (#50161683)
"X are spending more money to Y worse Z" is really the distillation of life under capitalism.
Re:Go Piss, Girl: The plight of the public potty on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:00PM (#50142906)
Romans had public toilets and fountains 2000 years ago. No matter who you are, let your body function the way it was designed.
Re:macOS 15.8.2 Breaks OpenGL on Sunday October 18, 2026 @12:43PM (#50142702)
Brings back memories of when macOS broke samba, coincidentally the moment I decided to switch off the brand.
Whatever makes you happy bru
I support not decimating tens of thousands of innocents, raiding their homes, bombing their cities, et cetera.

I guess you are the kind of person that when someone says "I don't like the iphone" jumps up and says "well, Samsung sucks!", the all white or black kinda guy?

> their war crimes are being broadcast live

Always have been, it's all over media in Arab countries. It's just western media that is glossing over the genocide.

As I said, being sarcastic.

The amount of apologism, denial and support for the horrors Israel is perpetrating, in this forum, is unreal.

Yes I was being sarcastic.
Clearly defending themselves from Hamas.
Re:Why Sweden is abandoning its cashless society on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:44AM (#50116285)
If you buy a coke can with cash who are you funding?
Re:Why Sweden is abandoning its cashless society on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:43AM (#50116275)
Hey THE GUBMINT exists also to collect taxes. Why are you so defensive of evasion?
Re:Zero-Click Spyware Delivered via Targeted Ads: AdFection on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:09AM (#50115555)
> My question is, why is Israel so good at this?

American money, tech and intel, plus they are vastly overstaffed for the size of territory they want to defend.

Dude, a lot of innocents were hurt or disfigured by the pagers.
Not even that, IMO. In the past when the world was stable for centuries, it made sense to have seniors with a long experience to drive the public, see Roman senators as an example.

Nowadays the world changes so fast it does not make sense anymore.

My grandfather was born when radio was a luxury and died after living through another revolution, the TV. Internet was not so widespread. While after him I witnessed the rise of TV, the birth of Internet and whatever other media it spawned. It's like living through 4x the advancements of our previous generation.

We can't expect a 70-80 years old to understand the world of today.

I can not think of a society that hates itself more, so yeah.
Re:Why Sweden is abandoning its cashless society on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:36AM (#50085406)
I live in a country with sky high tax evasion where cashless is conveniently out of order / broken most of the time. Despite the drawbacks you highlight, I really really really wish for a cashless society, so the evaders are forced to declare EVERYTHING. The net benefit would be incredible, for everyone.
Re:Where is all the new, good software? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @06:22AM (#50069459)
> AI is replacing more durable, longer-lasting software with more ephemeral forms of software or software use

What I thought all along: the fast-food era of software has come.

> "AI doesn't have judgement" is a mirage, that will shatter within the year. AI already has better judgement than many senior people in some tech domains

No offense, but if you noticed it has better judgment than you, consider that you might not be a "senior people in a tech domain"
