You might be surprised how many places have public broadband. I think they are usually the result of poor private offers.

Compared to sewers, drinking water, electricity and roads it seems a rather simple and cheap thing to build.

My commercial isp offers all kinds of packages clearly designed to extract as much money as possible. I cant even see the prices as everything is hidden behind x months discount. From what i remember 200 mbit is 42 and 2000 is 60 but a phone line and tv become available only if you take the faster package and required with the fastest speeds.

So its like one banana for $1 and 10 bananas for $1.50 If you buy just one you cant buy milk, if you buy 10 you also have to buy milk.

Its also been sold 6 times. Unsurprisingly, each time the service and quality noticably declines and the prices go up.

I see their adds everywhere and they sponsor all kinds of things. It suggests the product is overpriced and doesnt sell it self.

No one knows what is required. You would have to know the meaning of life. Perhaps we should at least preserve humanity so that we have time to think about it.

You could start a company in a random [poor] country, hire people and pay them a decent salary. Could even opperate at a loss and just pay for it.

Then you can put salary money in peoples pockets for a long time. (They can use that for their gutter too!)

Asking around for ideas what your company should do also sounds reasonable.

But say land mines are in high demand and there is room to pivot into AK-47.

Or you discover there is money in eyeballs on ads.

Its certainly much easier than making the next steam engine.

Its fine to have delusions of grandeur for a few hours in your life. Who knows what each unique person comes up with?

Answering what should exist and what the world is missing requires a vision for what you want the world to become. The question where to go should come after answering where we are, before that one should ask where we came from, what were things like before? Then, how did we get where we are from where we came from.

There are no correct answers. It should probably be more of a subjective journey than we like to imagine.

Ultimately you get to decide what you want people to become. Even if you do it in ignorance.

To quote a wise man. If the revolution doesnt have singing and dancing im not comming.

I had some hilarious experiences by telling people that they did well, now make the same thing again but make it better. I was quite surprised they put up with it many itterations and even more surprised that each round (with few exceptons) was actually better.
The point is making sausages. Making an extra building and adding an extra car to rush hour has to be worth it.
We imprison or fine to motivate others not to do the same. I doubt the current treatment is potent enough.
Im not a lawyer but i believe just following orders isnt considered a valid excuse. Now that machines participate in giving instructions it seems quite logical.

If the wires are hanging out of the wall and someone asks me to switch the power on it reminds me how my old boss almost died then chased the guy with a hammer but collapsed from his injuries before he could kill him. So i disassemble the switchboard. If there is someone like that walking around I don't care how long it takes. Sometimes they get angry I just ignore it. They may also report it to my boss.

RL is different like that but also quite similar.

Keep digging!

You can see it is true in how well we folow instructions but as soon as we build any kind of hierarchy we act like we are in a tunnel chiseling riches as if there wont be food end of the shift. Ï would design them like that, no uprising, no revolution, no union. Their biggest fear, universal basic income, no more digging.

Half a million years later we are still at it. Innovation is like, rock music, bitcoin mining, minecraft etc

Pretty deep

Goto the gym. For many jobs you wouldnt hire someone who looks like a programmer.

More interesting, which would make a better entrepreneur in the long run, someone with limited business logic skills who knows how to code or someone who cant code but knows a thing or two about running a business?

A friend of mine competes with a company with a huge office and 200 enployees. He hired a 14 year old who speaks the main suppliers language. Customers place orders, she checks the agenda, she calls the supplier, negotiates the price, calls the clieint and plans the job in the schedule. 10 million euro materials, 5 people for 3 weeks. Etc

The entire internet is like a wikipedia talk page now. If you say it is true often enough it becomes self evident.

Not that i question that reading mostly ai slop for long enough makes you feel dead inside.

If you dont fill out openings hours or if you dont even claim your business google maps lists it as open.
Re:The death of web development education on Saturday October 03, 2026 @12:17AM (#49941309)
It is possible to learn things. People try all kinds of things without knowing if it is even possible. If you know it is you dont get to pretend it cant be done. You go figure out what has been proposed, what has been tried, you do the research, document the results, you fail and try again.

Not to long ago i wouldnt have believed what LLMs "learned" today, surely we can make a similar effort with humans if we want to.

Im not suggesting we go back to beating kids with a stick but there might be something equally effective. Lots of unskilled labor is practically a life time of torture. If you ask me we shoyld gradually introduce the torture in stead of making it a surprise. There are better people to ask.

People really want to believe in calorie restriction. Losing muscle is its most terrible side.

I came up with this:

Fasting for as long as feels comfortable, start dry, start drinking when you feel like it, say 14 hours. Then, when you dont want to fast anymore (20 hours, 5 days, you decide) break the fast by eating something small, wait a bit then feest on whatever you like as long as it has no carbs and no sugar. Keep eating as much as you like until you feel ready for the next fast, ideally longer than the one before.

After waking up, wait 30-60 minutes then cycle or walk for 30-60 minutes.

You can wash down half a tea spoon of salt for extra cortisol if you dont feel like moving. Just throw it in your mouth, dont mix it in water.

If you take lots of creatine also drink a lot and consume enough potasium and magnesium.

Should be pretty easy. 1/1000 the effort of starving yourself for the rest of your life.

The pitch is learning useful things (if not skills) but we end up using schools as storage for kids, for indoctrination and as a business model. The ratio gradually changes.

We end up with shit results and where they arent shit students are rushed though as if to prevent them from thinking about the materials.

We have libraries full of unused education formulas. Some 2000 years old. Then there is nutrition, sleep and other work/rest ratios, physical health.

How expect results without learning to teach and learning to learn?

Onto what should one anchor learnings if the suroundings are always the same?

I never hear a word about spaced repetition in school. Its so basic i must conclude they knew nothing about what should have been their area of expertise.

When things get bad enough we will [finally] have reason to improve.

Maybe the great work of Salman Khan is merely a hint?

Count the bubbels with your fingers while you count from 0 to 9. Every x fingers you write down the number.

Extra points if you hold you face really close and count in a dead language. You can also make ordered hand gestures in stead of counting on your fingers. Be a wizard about it!

If you have a computer do something you cant know if it really did what you wanted.
Give each dev their own core.
Everyone is slowly moving the line. Cant move to far ahead, cant stay to far behind.

The more we can isolate consumers the less they will care about others and the less of a point complaining.

There exists a good answer to that question but they apparently dont know it.
Hah, that Google experience clicking though closed closed closed... Okay fine, i will accept my stupidity for even considering this approach. Wont happen again.

Ive been curious about that since that us vs ms thing.

I think it's what keeps developers oblivious about how computers work? Paper over the insanity?

Yes?

I have one keyboard worn to the point the (now blank) keys have nail shaped holes in them in just the right shape and angle.

One could extrude keys to be softer so that they errode faster and have the symbol all the way though.

Imagine doing away with income tax and replace it with a wealth tax payable in whatever wealth you have. % of your house, % of your investments etc
Re:Brood War Bench on Saturday September 19, 2026 @08:22PM (#49771355)
This is a great idea. It could learn from its mistakes, repeat things that work, abstract complex situations. I would even want humans monitoring the project.
Well done Confucius, you've invented a new creditpocalypse. Its when llms hallucinate new authors for new words. It almost makes it worth starting a blogsurection!
Its true, all usually highly conplex world events are dumbed down to an insanely infantile level that carefully omits anything that may poorly reflect on corporate interests.

Also obvious is that all news is made in a short list of countries. Everywhere else the best you can hope for are terrible events.

You will only get opinions from a small list of talking heads.

One might imagine populating the media with nothing but professors. Each field has new stuff every week. In stead you get Adam Savage. The name isn't by acident.

We have people study hard so that they can fill a seat in some corporate machine. The salaries reflect how hard the work is for a mere mortal and/or how scarce the supply.

We ended up with a system where organizing the work is many times more work and more expensive than the actual work. You have to charge 90 them send a worker who earns 20... before taxes! LOL They go shopping and pay 15 for something that costs 4, 3 of which is admin overhead.

They might not be useless jobs today but it would be great to make it so. Who knows, it might finally free up enough human intelect to change the rat race.

Havent you noticed humans are terrible at everything too? Its a miracle how far we've made it.
