They have made a fair bit of improvements, as performance was a big complaint. It's still not perfect, but VSCode also isn't nearly as powerful in my experience and needs a million plugins to match basic features.

Wow, this really sucks. With all the money flocking to companies that trained LLMs on stolen data, we may lose the only set of IDEs that offer high quality professional development tools

Their entire business model is targeted ads and selling overpriced linkedin premium to thought-leader wannabes. If they lose the ads surface, they are dead in the water, so it makes sense to block headless experiences at all cost

Are you doing less work now because of AI? Not sure about you, but I'm doing a lot more work. Not saying I like doing more, or how it's getting done, but nonetheless I don't feel like AI is doing what the CEOs of AI labs want to convince everyone of.

It may have been the normal before we had the technology to remove that need. Obviously it may be the normal for certain types of work still, but I don't see why it needs to be that way for office work. This ends up greatly affecting housing markets too and making life more expensive for everyone.

A big issue with non-remote is access to opportunities. A lot of organizations don't have offices everywhere, and I having to relocate every time there's a job change is absurd.

Re:Ask HN: GitHub employees what's going on? Why?
on Monday August 17, 2026 @11:54AM (#49333054)
Well they heavily limit free tier usage and for paid users they are charging a tiered pricing model that ramps up very aggressively. Github is a lot more generous in this sense and it has a lot more surface area in terms of the functionality it serves

Any engineered system where an individual can accidentally cause a 7 figure outage is poorly designed. And engineering leadership that decider to terminate an individual due to such failure (as long as there was no malicious actions) is completely clueless.

I love zed but i wish they'd focus on the IDE for those of us that still love, write and read a ton of code for serious work. Webstorm continues to be better for TS, Goland better for Go and so on; Zed lacks too much of core functionality at the moment to be the main interface of choice

I love how light and comfortable the fitbit air is, but I find that the data quality blows. Both steps and sleep (pretty much the only two things it can really track) are not super accurate when comparing to other devices. Hopefully they can sort it out with software updates

To be fair, it wasn't 6%. The consumer basket gets manipulated in all sorts of ways, but in general it's just not an accurate representation of day to day impact. Food and housing went up much much higher than 6%.
Re:Stacked PRs are now live on GitHub
on Thursday July 30, 2026 @03:25PM (#49114518)
I haven't used git-town, but from a cursory look it appears to be a various collection of gitops improvements for day to day things, including some for stacking.
git-spice is specifically targeted to be useful for PR stacking and doesn't require you to do anything differently from normal git operations that you likely use already. It has a bunch of really nice flows and doesn't try to step outside the bounds of what is needed to easily stack PRs
Re:Stacked PRs are now live on GitHub
on Thursday July 30, 2026 @02:38PM (#49113901)
I'd recommend git-spice, it's very easy to use and powerful, and of course open-source. I've tried graphite but found that they made it too convoluted for what it is.
