The camera shutter sound is to discourage people in asian countries from taking upskirt photos. It also can't be muted when you've got SIM cards from one of those countries installed.
For people that didn't read the article, listings will need to include the FCC ID. So most consumer goods will still be available.

Reminds me of the worst aircraft disaster in history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenerife_airport_disaster
Why would they ask to slow down?

One reason is that they really do think they're going too fast, and that scary AGI is right around the corner.

Another possible reason is that they cannot keep up the pace. Throwing more data, compute, and money at the problem isn't getting the commensurate results necessary to justify the investment.

mapquest is from the US too
The toaster is a bad example. You don't know what hazard/harm mitigations are implemented in software. Badly coded toasters are a fire/burn risk.
Microsoft shoves onedrive down everyone's throats, only to delete it on a whim.

Sounds more like Google's M.O., honestly.

Interesting mechanism - reminds me of Openflexure

I'm not sure what this strawman is going on about, but the cancer-alzheimer's inverse correlation is a well known phenomenon

Cancer is also inversely correlated with alzheimer's.

Phrased another way, egg consumption is correlated with cancer.

How are there so many typos and formatting errors in a news article like that? Do they even have an editor?
Apple pay, when available, has been pretty seamless. I assume it's the same for Google pay (or whatever it's called these days)

That should be microhitlers

Re:Ask HN: Can there be a YC batch in Europe? on Sunday May 10, 2026 @12:55PM (#48085578)
If you can't spend 3 months in SF, you probably can't spend 3 months in any other european city/country.

Is there a city with anywhere near the critical mass of SF?

If that happened to be on the other side of the EU, would you be OK living a 3-hour flight away from Amsterdam, rather than a 13 hour flight away?

Is commuting back and forth 3-hours compatible with the "SF-level work ethic", as you call it?

According to the article many of the labs are subsidiaries owned by american testing firms.

These EMI labs should already be audited by the FCC, so this just seems like sinophobia to me.

It seems to me they've had enough foresight to prevent their openclaw credentials from being stolen via copy-fail
MEGA was founded by Kim Dotcom, who currently lives in New Zealand
I thought index funds were killing actively managed funds already. Why would anyone choose these over a low expense ratio index fund?
I do hope they force all of the executives and management at Amazon to switch to this new phone and forcibly take away their iphones.
I looked up Mt Fuji and there are spikes and pits all over the place in the model. Is the satellite scan data no good?

Can it use locally hosted LLMs, or are you forced to use one of the big players for that portion?

How does that compare with the number of times Abe is mentioned?

Why is electrical isolation even a concern? There are no user accessible conductive parts.
Only 3/4 of a mile will be electrified. That's less than a minute of charging at highway speeds.
why is 6 afraid of 7?
That much sale in assets will affect the asset prices themselves. Unless the state is willing to take taxes in the form of assets instead of cash, it doesn't make sense to tax them.
If this is a piece of jewelery how are you managing the buildup of sweat/gunk/biojunk?
