Hey, just wanted to say you're not alone in this.

I have pretty similar feelings to what you are going through.

I was so stressed like seven or eight months ago that for two weeks I was constantly sleep deprived. Then I just asked myself "What is the worst that can happen?" The answer helped me relax a bit. I will just move to some small village somewhere, open a shop for anything and get by. Life will go on.

I seriously think software is / was hard. That means people that thrived in it were smart and disciplined.

And which other profession has so much change? My father is a civil engineer. The tools and formulas he uses has not changed in 50 years while I have to pick up whatever hype tech is asked of me. Many people are similar to me. So we are very adaptable in my most honest opinion.

If it comes to _worst of it_, smart and adaptable people is where I would put my bet on being able to find their footing in the new world.

I don't really see them saying fuck the US, even though they've bombed girls schools in Iran. Or saying fuck Israel because of their super well documented ongoing genocide.

Erm, no? it is pointing out hypocrisy?

If you are against the thing China does, when US does the thing also be against it.

US has always done what China does, now trump is doing it vocally.

So it is easier to point out the hypocrisy in it.

Before there was plausible deniability.

Thank you for your attention to this matter

Hollywood.

What does China do that US does not?

They are releasing open models, so at-least up until now their advancements you can run yourself.

US frontier labs on the other hand keep it all to themselves. The moment they cut access you have nothing and your country will be stumped on and forced in making decisions not in your national interest.

buy a domain.

create icloud account.

use their custom domain email setup (free btw) - https://support.apple.com/en-us/102540

Start replacing important account emails with your custom domain.

Every time you get an important email in gmail, login and update.

Bonus: icloud let's you create catch all emails, so you can create many burner emails such as [email protected]

Agree materially no consequences but still better than many deflection strategies we have seen from others during layoffs.
> But China has some of the most imperialist policies in the world.

Citation needed?

US and allies have invaded or intervened in 20+ countries in last 20 years in the name of "western values" where values means $$$$ and hegemony.

Educate me please with a comparison of what China has done to be "some of the most imperialist policies"?

NSA spied on European leaders[1] and we did nothing. So yes, nothing happens.

I expect "Peanut Butter" level innovation.

I also expect best people to be more open to join startups, those that have a chance of overcoming the moats built in 2010s.

I expect the stock market to adjust their stock prices due to the reduction in growth by 2035, all the great people decided to leave between 2026 - 2030.

That is also an influence, although that has a risk if one over-indexes on it and getting into tunnel-vision territory.

If the opposing view is indeed correct and I dismiss them just because they voted with their feet or money, that would be unfair and damage building a diverse view of the debate landscape and opinions.

writing software for a hobby is different from hundreds of thousand that do it 40+ hours per week, go into planning into retros into milestone review meetings etc.

I am painting in my free time as a hobby. I do not think I am an authority or should be taken seriously when taking about impact of AI on artists.

I’ve started doing a quick background check on authors before I dive into their content. This piece starts with the assumption that the writer is closely involved in engineering, but a little research reveals they don't actually work in active software development.

I’ll pass on this.

p.s. I’m happy to read authors with opposing views. Issue is with people who make claims, without having recent direct experience.
