What a bullshit.

It's different scenario, different trade offs.

You mitigate risk of library being sold to malicious 3rd party, you avoid risk of your supply chain being hacked, you avoid API/behaviour breaks, etc.

The trade off is that you have to maintain it.

That's why dotnet's ecosystem is so loved due to MS providing 90% of needed libraries, so you avoid some 3rd parties maintained by single person.

Academic environment has plenty of those.

I'd bet because that's probably no better, that's it.

>The LLVM patch was rejected a decade ago

And what was the reasoning?

>X Microsoft technology, now gone.

Why? There's a lot of jobs around $MS_TECH

>but wonder about employees who dedicated their careers to X Microsoft technology, now gone.

That's also their mistake to do not diversify their stack and experience

That's just US perspective? Because I don't feel like that in Eastern EU
You get a choice to get probably huge pay-check, like between half of the year and year of salary to leave.

It's good trade off.

Profit is not relevant
Re:C# now beats Rust on WASM size on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @10:41AM (#50181851)
at least supply chain issues are less problematic if everyone depends on MS :)
Re:Qualcomm Legally Proves Arm Breached Its License, Wins $2 on Friday October 16, 2026 @11:32AM (#50119675)
Of course this this whole thing is bigger than that, but that "$1"

figure appearing everywhere around this topic makes it look funny and cute and that's what I wanted to joke about

Re:Qualcomm Legally Proves Arm Breached Its License, Wins $2 on Friday October 16, 2026 @09:16AM (#50118017)
Why people are not talking about the REAL winners?

How much lawyers made!

That's the most frustrating thing about compiler engineering

You fix some feature, some workload, but performance regression appears in other which relied on some bullshit -

unwritten convention, ordering, function name, luck, alignment of the stars, whatever.

You spent 2 weeks fixing a thing and you still have to get back to it because someone is pissed off.

Same applies to cars, web development, etc.
Re:How the Military Will Hack the Election on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @03:10PM (#50093290)
Why title and comments under article act as if that was bad?
"only" 2017? :P it's almost 10 years ago

Anyway C# has this:

var (_, _, population1960, _, population2010) = QueryPopulationDataForYears("New York City", 1960, 2010);

Re:Ask HN: How can this be legal? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:53AM (#50071791)
It doesn't feel like legacy, bureaucratic dinosaur company

it feels like a scam

Wut? C# besides all other ways to return Tuples, Result<T>s, NULLable, etc, etc.

Still had something as sane as:

if (double.TryParse("5.x5", out var val)) { Console.WriteLine(val); } else { Console.WriteLine("err"); }

Why?

I'm C# Dev that'd want to learn Rust at some point and such guide makes it very helpful

For some people LLM-spotting feels like a sport they need to compete in
Or maybe something bigger should change

like why your driver license or even id should enable someone to do damage to your life?

especially that it isnt difficult to lose it and even needs to be shared with someone (e.g hotel)?

Re:Java 27 Released on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @11:19AM (#49713883)
Consistent ecosystem with state of the art tooling (Visual Studio)

Majority of things provided from MS instead of having to rely on 3rd party, especially nowadays when supply-chain issues are huge concern

Let's hope aerodynamics can save us from SUV disease

But why paper's ratio is important?
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @04:14PM (#49633507)
But what's the point?
Google Maps being displayed on built-in screen is good thing.
I'm talking about searching via LLM, not about experience of using Google.
Search e.g
>A BBS chatbot from the 80s (LISA) was almost as good as modern LLMs and that was just based on key words.

Of course, because it's not like whole world went crazy after ChatGPT and hundreds of billions of dollars are being constantly invested into many of technology stacks - software, hardware, semiconductor engineering in order to push this technology even further, lol.

>Almonds provide a real utility for humans: food.

Let's do not act as if there wasnt other food, a lot of it actually.

Meanwhile LLMs aren't that easy to replace, they're biggest human achievement up to date.
