Re:Plan Mode Is Dead on Saturday September 26, 2026 @10:56AM (#49857199)
I agree with that. Currently, I have claude's $100 plan and most days I do not run out of tokens. If I were building more; that would bother me too.
Re:Plan Mode Is Dead on Saturday September 26, 2026 @10:27AM (#49856911)
I've been using superpowers:brainstorming skill with claude for a while and have found the process to work well for me. I generally spend 10-30 minutes typing my requirements and ideas for a feature and then I feed it into brainstorming skill which asks questions to fill in the gaps before starting to build things. I don't bother reading the spec it creates. I have been consistently happy with the results.

However, since everything changes every 5-minutes now; I am curious what is now a better process than using superpowers? What works for you?

Re:Why MCP Was Always a Bad Idea on Monday September 21, 2026 @12:20PM (#49789327)
I don't get excited about the directories listing all the MCPs that do all these random things. However, I used claude to create an MCP that is a gateway to our system and it's enabled some pretty helpful functionality for us. I use claude cowork to create email designs using data and content from our CMS, it can push accepted work straight into our system, evaluate content, and analyze results. All of that used to be a manual tiring process. This removed a lot of drudgery and improved the quality as well.

When I first looked at MCP protocol, I did not like it. Then I realized, I don't have to care about the protocol. Claude can implement that for me and it did.

What kind of metrics are you looking for? No one answers that question. It's like asking for clinical trial results about whether or not a parachute works and if you should use one when jumping out of a plane.

I don't expect AI to be perfect. Are people perfect? I leave room for corrections, but at this point they are usually minor and acceptable.

I can understand normies being AI skeptics, but at this point it is a pretty insane position for any developer/nerd. It's like being schizophrenic and completely out of touch with reality.
I'm saving time. It's implementing features in a few hours that would have taken me weeks to implement. I can review code much faster than I can create well reasoned, implemented and tested solutions.
oh, no worries.. what kind of metrics would be helpful here?
Lately, I've seen a couple responses to my comments which inquire about metrics. They seem strange and I wonder if they are bots. I just noticed this inquiry is from an account that is 11 days old. How does one benefit by adding bot comments in a forum like this?
I don't require metrics in these instances. I review the code and test the functionality. That is sufficient for my needs.
I am getting really good results from claude. We have a 22-year old legacy system. The system is stable, but had issues as all legacy systems do. Claude has been great for modernizing the codebase, updating dependencies, auditing security, and rapidly adding new features. It has worked well with existing code style and patterns. Sometimes it is a little off-track, but overall it is pretty amazing.

When implementing new features or making large refactoring changes; I use the superpowers:brainstorming skill. That has consistent process which has worked really well. I alway review the code before merging, but most of the time there are few issues to correct.

I don't do 95% coverage, but I have increased it from 65% to about +80% and that is sufficient.

Re:Giving up on smart rings on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @04:51PM (#49718744)
The only thing my body tells me in the morning is.. "dude coffee now". I have no problem falling asleep, but I usually wake up pretty early. I feel ok with 6 hours of sleep, but I don't think that is optimally healthy. I don't worry about it a lot, but I look at sleep duration, heart rate, hrv, and sleep debt. The details motivate me to pay attention to sleep hygiene. If I ignored it, I don't think I would sleep enough.
Re:Giving up on smart rings on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @01:09PM (#49715554)
I can understand those pain points, but they don't really bother me. I'm on my 3rd oura ring now and I still like using it. I don't go crazy with the information, but I really do try to get a good night sleep and oura lets me know when I do not. I got married a few years ago and I usually don't like wearing my wedding band around because I worry about loosing it. So I wear the oura ring in place of the wedding band. I take the ring off when I lift weights and do some other things.

I also wear a garmin watch that I mostly use for tracking mountain bike rides, hikes, etc. So I'm just a geek who enjoys gadgets and the data they provide. I like that both have very long battery lives. I would love all the features of an apple watch, but I don't want to be charging it every day.

Re:For the love of god stop using CPU limits in Kubernetes on Friday August 14, 2026 @07:26AM (#49297324)
I would expect the impact of cpu limits to be different between K8s providers. I have only used memory limits. If I had a pod that tended to be very cpu intensive, I would schedule it on it's own node group.
Re:What ORMs have taught me: just learn SQL (2014) on Sunday July 05, 2026 @11:30AM (#48795018)
Does my opinion on SQL and ORMs matter anymore? What does Claude think about ORMs an SQL? So far Claude seems to be content with my existing patterns of using JPA/Hibernate. We've been having this conversation since the early 2000s. Will we have it next year? Maybe just for fun... to pretend we are still relevant :(
Re:Verizon is About to Break our Watches on Saturday July 04, 2026 @08:14PM (#48790210)
I didn't realize Apple had a kid mode. Of course I see Apple watches everywhere, but I haven't talked to any parents about them. When we got the gizmo 3ish years ago, it was popular with a lot of kids around here. I wasn't hearing of kids using the apple watch. The gizmo is nice in that they can call us and that their contacts are limited. I really don't want to have more features than that. I'm just surprised that it feels like an "unpolished" set of features.
Re:Verizon is About to Break our Watches on Saturday July 04, 2026 @03:57PM (#48788427)
I have a verizon watch only account. I was able to get the new app working, but it was a struggle. I think it worked on the 3rd or 4th attempt. I had to start over and lost all of the contacts that were connected to the watch. Fortunately, there were only a few.

Overall, the Gizmo watch has been nice to have, but it leaves a lot to be desired. It's surprising that there are not better products in this market segment.

Re:What ORMs have taught me: just learn SQL (2014) on Saturday July 04, 2026 @11:48AM (#48786234)
I use both SQL and ORMs every day. I've used hibernate since 2004. I've certainly had some difficult times with it; but overall it is a net positive. I find that it generally works well and saves a ton of time as long as I stick to my known patterns.
I tweaked the css in my browser with developer tools.
There's a mass delusion in the industry that using Kubernetes has to be hard, grossly over complex, and is always wrong if you are not Netflix scale. Is the system as described by the author significantly less complex and better than a small Kubernetes system? Sounds like they went through a lot of work to get it to their desired state.

Rolling your own zero-downtime deployments is as about as a good idea as rolling your own security... it's not a good idea.

I run our small system on a single EC2 instance with K3s. It runs a half-dozen or so services and does it quite well. I don't think it is particularly complex or over engineered. I like how easy it is to maintain the configuration in a helm package and quickly deploy it in different environments.

There is a learning curve for doing K8s well, but that's true for any non-trivial system.

Re:Apple introduces the new MacBook Air with M5 on Tuesday March 03, 2026 @10:48AM (#47234145)
I've been using Macbook Pros for a long time. I usually spend 3-4k on them. I recently purchased an 14" Asus ZenBook for $1300 and loaded Omarchy Linux on it. I wanted to have something less expensive and lightweight for traveling. I really like it a lot! I notice that it is a little slower than my Macbook Pro, but the performance completely acceptable for most things.
Re:Should I Use jwts For Authentication Tokens? on Monday May 27, 2024 @07:01PM (#40495597)
Some people get entirely too dogmatic about their “XYZ is wrong, don’t do it!” beliefs. At the time I implemented JWT in our system, many years ago; it was the most straightforward way to solve the problems that I had. I read about the pitfalls and have yet to experience any of them. So in short.. “no regrats” from this heathen.
Re:You can't just assume UTF-8 on Tuesday April 30, 2024 @09:29AM (#40210780)
I maintain a system I created in 2004 (crazy right). Not sure how we lived; but at the time, emojis were not as much of a thing. This has come to bite me several times.
I don't like being negative and I always appreciate open source / free software but..

I tried using it in a small k8s cluster on digital ocean. Initial installation using the recommended helm package was easy enough. However, it only saved a very short period of log data. I spent a fair amount of time searching docs and the web about how to increase the storage, with no luck. Such an obvious and common need should not be so difficult to configure. You should not have to deep dive, reverse engineer, and read source code in order to solve such simple problems.

Re:Watermark Remover (AI Powered) on Monday February 06, 2023 @11:24AM (#34679736)
In some instances, watermarks can be distracting from the perception of what the final product will be.
Re:Watermark Remover (AI Powered) on Monday February 06, 2023 @10:40AM (#34678961)
I recently used this to create a web site design. I wanted to see it without watermarks. Then after the customer approved the design, I purchased the image to use in the implementation of the design.
So anytime someone thinks something is dubious, their brain is "looking for patters and finding it even if it’s not there". I disagree, sometimes your brain makes connections and often (but not always) those connections are correct. To most dedicated runners (such as the LetsRun group); this case is pretty obvious. The last paragraph of the article reads pretty conclusive of his guilt.

This reminds me of Lance Armstrong. Prior to his outing, I believed Lance Armstrong was innocent of doping. But many serious cyclists told me there was no way he was not doping, and they were right. Expertise is often useful.

As a mid-40s marathoner, this is really interesting to me. I don't feel sorry for him; other than that he lived life with an ego condition allowing him to do this. That is sad, but he earned the scrutiny and outing.

Right now, I'm running 50+ miles a week training for a marathon. That is really hard and a major commitment. I won't set any records, but I have a good shot at placing in my age group. I don't run to win anything or achieve a certain place, but I would be somewhat pissed off if some idiot like this cheated and beat me.

I enjoy most of the time that I spend running, but to get to this level, you have to go through a pretty difficult level of training which makes all of your life a lot more stressful during the periods of intense training. Right now, I'm staying in a job that I don't like because the schedule is very flexible and allows me to spend around 15 hours a week training.

Re:You people are just vectors of disease to me on Tuesday January 18, 2022 @05:22PM (#29986899)
While I think he is quite funny, I would be pissed if I had to pay money to take his class.
This article made me chuckle. It is spot on. I worked at a trip planning startup around 2006 - 2007. A lot of money was burned, fortunately it wasn’t mine!
Re:Migrating from Docker to Podman on Saturday September 04, 2021 @03:05PM (#28418078)
I’ve enjoyed using the Kubernetes environment on Docker Desktop for Mac. It’s been pretty good.. paying for it is not an unreasonable request.
