Re:The $6.3B Binance Hack Was Pulled Off in Just 20 Minutes on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:02AM (#50314560)
In Europe there are CoCo bonds used to meet capital requirements - various ways of providing layers of protection in case things go wrong.

US banks tend to meet AT1 requirements by issuing preferred shares.

Binance's approach seems to be based on vibes and a vague promise

Nobody's owning a thing, BeIN is a live sports channel
Re:eMudhra to Exit Global SSL/TLS Certificate Business on Thursday October 22, 2026 @10:36PM (#50203856)
I think it doesn't matter what they say because they'll just get away with it. It's as simple as that. They'll get away with it.
Re:Quad9 (DNS Resolver) to Exit France on Thursday October 22, 2026 @05:37PM (#50201409)
Yeah, it's not the right place for it to happen. One's a service to protect the consumer, and the other is a corporate profit preserving concern. Why should a free DNS service be doing their work for them?
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:21AM (#50086553)
This saves them GPU cycles, I guess. Even auto mode makes me manually approve things a lot.
Re:Intel Starts Shipping High-NA EUV Silicon on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @08:05AM (#49005426)
Yes, and that changes what?

Is this just OpenRouter Fusion but from Japan?
Re:Running local models is good now on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @07:33AM (#48568862)
I found a tool that makes it easy to run Salvatore Sanfilippo's (Redis creator) ds4.c on a Mac: https://github.com/notatestuser/ds4-control

His program uses quantization, but is very optimised and has builds that can fit into 96GB of memory with great results.

DS4 Flash is usually my go-to for a lot of things these days, and I don't have to worry about a cloud model stopping or telling me it's concerned about my usage.

Modern frontier LLMs know Norwegian. Wouldn't this simply be the job of RAG to do lookups as the user requests for data? Like how Gemini integrates with Google Search.

Seems like they should be building an MCP service rather than training an entirely new LLM...

Re:A few words on DS4 on Friday May 15, 2026 @05:28PM (#48154131)
An agent cli provides a sandbox, with permission systems and auto command classifiers. That’s part of the harness.
Re:StarFighter 16-Inch on Thursday May 07, 2026 @02:01PM (#48052636)
I’d just plug the ports since things are going wireless and might only need the one usb-c from time to time. Hey StarLabs, perhaps put some nice flush and matching port plugs in the box?
Re:StarFighter 16-Inch on Thursday May 07, 2026 @05:41AM (#48047369)
Looks really slick. I'd love to see some more AI oriented mini PCs like the Star Byte but with OSS firmware. Think AMD Ryzen AI Halo form factor with the Gorgon Halo style APU.
Re:GameStop makes $55.5B takeover offer for eBay on Monday May 04, 2026 @09:11AM (#48008298)
Is eBay just a hive of scams now? Try searching for a Mac Studio with 512gb of RAM for example. I know it's a highly sought after item, but there are so many sellers with 0 reviews supposedly selling these at suspiciously low prices. What's going on here?
Re:Claude Chill: Fix Claude Code's Flickering in Terminal on Saturday January 24, 2026 @01:36AM (#46741552)
Many users do like to use scrollback to copy large passages of text, which becomes difficult and cumbersome if they have to use page-up page-down to get at the other parts of it.
Re:Claude can now create and edit files on Tuesday September 09, 2025 @03:19PM (#45187323)
Here's a useful tracker for how "stupid" the models are now and over some preset time periods: https://aistupidlevel.info

Re:Apple Exclaves on Monday March 10, 2025 @03:43AM (#43317894)
I wonder if it's possible for app devs to use Exclaves. The thing that irks me about Apple is that they invent this new amazing internal stuff but then completely wall it off from devs, leaving everyone else (banking apps, wallets, secure messaging, etc.) to continue running in unsecured user space.
Re:Apple M3 Ultra on Saturday March 08, 2025 @02:55AM (#43298404)
Something nobody mentions is the power draw. This kind of compute horsepower for so little power usage is outstanding.
Re:Apple M3 Ultra on Saturday March 08, 2025 @12:27AM (#43297726)
Just to clarify. There is an important difference between unified memory, meaning accessible by both CPU and GPU, and regular RAM that is only accessible by CPU.
Re:Apple M3 Ultra on Friday March 07, 2025 @10:02PM (#43297119)
That could be why they're also selling it as the Mac Studio M3 Ultra
Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @06:35AM (#42756160)
It won't be anywhere near as popular as it was. The average user has the app "TikTok" and that's as far as they will ever go to get access.
Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @06:00AM (#42755963)
Western companies operating outside China are often forced to agree with China's censorship requirements too. Look up the "great cannon" on wikipedia. Many such examples.
Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @05:55AM (#42755931)
Probably nothing. That was their last hope...
Re:Apple Is America's Semiconductor Problem on Friday August 09, 2024 @07:41AM (#41200874)
x86 is an overcomplicated behemoth never intended for low power computing. It’s lipstick on a pig for mobile x86 at this point
Re:Apple Is America's Semiconductor Problem on Friday August 09, 2024 @01:33AM (#41199039)
To show them that their battery life could go from 2.5 hours to 8 or more, perhaps. That was the Mac experience that customers weren't asking for yet "wowed" them when it came.
Re:The tiny chip that powers Montreal subway tickets on Monday June 24, 2024 @10:10AM (#40776262)
1000ms is a surprisingly long wait at a ticket barrier, though! Latency is everything in this use case...
Re:The tiny chip that powers Montreal subway tickets on Monday June 24, 2024 @06:32AM (#40774320)
None in that case. But with these cards there’s less need for centralization of data storage and code logic
Re:The tiny chip that powers Montreal subway tickets on Monday June 24, 2024 @04:46AM (#40773758)
Oyster in London works like this too so I’ve heard. Some terminals (e.g. those on buses) are offline until the terminal is docked and connected to the main centre.
Re:The tiny chip that powers Montreal subway tickets on Monday June 24, 2024 @04:36AM (#40773698)
I’ve found NDEF cards that can hold 16KB & 32KB, even as much as 64KB. That may be too much capacity for ticketing but it blows QR codes out of the water
