News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

If I were in your situation with the knowledge I have now, I'd say, in order of priority

1. Make sure you understand and accept the position you're in

2. Try and understand that changing ourselves is done 1 thing at a time

3. Exercice (very important)

4. Write down some realistic goals and set up a few hours each day to work towards them.

Don't beat yourself too much, enjoy the little things in life (for me, beer, eating, and coffee), and stay kind with your fellow humans

Re:No Cure for Loneliness on Sunday November 27, 2022 @11:22AM (#33764031)
It's tricky. Myself being very comfortable alone, I still find myself sometimes craving for socialization, but hanging out with people who don't like the same music as me always leaves me more depressed than before.

In Canada the ISPs send email threats but do absolutely nothing. I get them all the time.
I sometimes use my dick as a weapon, but only in defensive situations.

C++ gets much hate on hn for whatever reason. Modern c++ is easy to learn, intuitive and a joy to work with.

Re:Ask HN: Would You Work for Elon? on Wednesday November 16, 2022 @11:55AM (#33626333)
Could you explain your reasoning, exactly why is this a good metric?
100% agree. Not proud of eating meat, been vegan 3+ years, but right now my selfish reason is that there are so few moments of pleasure in life, and eating meat is one of them. Hoping to get vegan again if I can find other pleasurable activities to keep me from jumping off a cliff.
There are some small farms doing things right, their meat is 3-4x the price of normal meat, but worth it.

Haxe is a pile of dump with bugged generics, garbage tooling and no community. Unusable for anything bigger than toys.

Had to use it at a gaming startup. Everybody hated it, including the CEO, and we were planning moving to Unity as soon as possible.

It's a feature of capitalism boys, not a bug. They are actively trying to self destruct and ruin their product to give competitors a chance
Re:Ask HN: Do you genuinely enjoy your developer job? on Thursday November 10, 2022 @07:23AM (#33545405)
Hell no.

Senior folks who don't know how to code and ask me to fix their unreadable spaghetti in boring ass business logic... where's the closest cliff??

Coding for other people is boring. Coding for fun is fun.

I agree that stimulants make boring stuff interesting though. Weed also works, by making your brain work at half speed ;)
