wow what an amazing story
one thing that gets me is this should be one of the most basic tasks between two machines and it has been increasingly, systematically abstracted from us, to control what channels it goes through, if it even goes through at all. so kudos to this app but this should be easy at an OS level and it isn't, by design. likely for the same reason airdrop is not a thing in china
carefully crafted stated intent
i only code in this when no ones around. one might say I...han solo
maybe its being done by the people lobbying for the OS-based ID malarkey, so they can have something to point at and jump up and down

by "say stupid things," you of course mean "tell bald-faced lies"

big hint: how many computer-literate people do you know that would put their whole-ass name as their HN handle, in 2026? none i'd professionally associate with, thats for sure
the old "it's all the same shit" fallacy that i loathe so dearly
halkias is that you? :P
i mean, to be fair, indirectly trusting people to do the right thing by doing things via "honor system" was never possible in an industry that runs on distrust.

that being said, people using AI to scam all the things is getting super old

Re:The hardest working font in Manhattan on Saturday February 15, 2025 @06:10AM (#43057666)
For a time I wrote code for BMS/BAS systems for many prominent commercial buildings in the NYC area, control rooms in basements and on rooftops and all the secret in-between rooms, in-between. (A fascinating job not without its exposure to asbestos, among other hazards.)

And, as someone born and raised in the south, I was thoroughly enamored with this ubiquitous font that implied the seriousness and purpose of each control implement, to include the priority of the functionality said implement represented, on countless panels I engaged with.

This deep dive was pleasing to my soul and I'm immensely thankful to the author for taking the time (and the photos) to indulge in traversing this wormhole for us.

it also facilitates legibility, especially at a slight distance, as well as distortion (squishing, stretching) if necessary.

Both of which are objectively desirable qualities of a font with massive control panels as its native habitat.

If you think that's all they said about it, you didn't finish the article. That was the introduction.

kinda like that bad landlord map webapp that ppl in nyc setup
someone in his camp is smart/devious/slick enough to advise him to test his autocracy by skipping the rules on things that are already obvious before moving on to skip the rules on more dubious and unpalatable endeavors

I would liken it to testing the electric fences in different sectors like the velociraptors from Jurassic Park, starting with the sections that are hidden from cameras by bushes, before knocking down the ones out in the open.

Re:CFPB's 1,700 employees told to "not perform any work" on Tuesday February 11, 2025 @03:44AM (#43010462)
they aren't, this person just simply wants them to be.

and if you say anything to the contrary about LLMs not being fully baked enough for this undertaking, they will immediately frame it like you're against the entire endeavor. they hate nuance.

that is an excellent metric for their beaver resumes
and private industry has a prime directive to attain profit goals at predefined amounts, regardless of who is healthy or sick, so the more expensive of the two will fall by the wayside.

what has me pensive is, i think you already know this

hard false there, but thanks anyways

not to justify murder in the street, but i'm fairly certain you'd be systematically prevented, logistically and businesswise, from building an alternative system.
