this is a great comment, but what about Venus ? It has an energy gradient, so why no life ?

the USA was founded by migrants

"The world wouldn’t be $78T richer, it would be $78T poorer because it would lead to widespread civil war"

Nope, 90% of people would stay where they are. Most people don't like migrating: to uproot yourself and your family from the land, culture and language you love is a big deal and people only do it when the have no other choice.

"I can effortlessly wave it around with one hand and not get tired"

because it always buffers 2 seconds into a video

if it can identify the song why can't it process it out of the soundtrack ?

it's true. What can be done about this ? Lottery grants ? Universal Basic science funding ?

If NASA went on Patreon I'd gladly help fund them if it meant they could just do great science without needing to worry about 'impact'

Yes older coders have weathered more fashions and succumbed to many themselves so in some respects they do know better

and fluoridation doesn't affect dental health because you're drinking the water which means the fluoride doesn't get to the teeth but is absorbed elsewhere in the body. If you want fluoride you can get it through toothpaste. It should be a choice.

For the likes of Bezos work is completely optional and for themselves, they get to choose what work they feel like doing and when. That kind of autonomy has the effect of motivating one to work hard and enjoy it. Which is why Bezos can afford to be happy at work and "come home with tremendous energy"

Couldn't agree more but I think some people need a prescribed system, because they find it hard to listen to their own intuition. Following your intuition is optimal however, because we're all different.

I want to add one point, which is related to your final points: we all need to move regularly for health. Getting up and running up and down the stairs, round the block, or round the room is essential. It actually improves concentration too. Unlike conversational interruptions, intermittant bursts of exercise don't make you forget where you where, instead they help prevent tunnel-vision and allow your mind to zoom-out briefly to ensure you're going in the right overall direction.

viruses transmitted within species could be viewed as part of their host's genotype, regardless of whether their genomes are incorporated into the germ-line. When you catch a cold for instance, you have particles of another human's body inside you replicating

The idea that viruses are self-contained entities separate from the organisms they infect is an artifact of the human mind's power-saving system of modelling the world in terms of functional-decomposition. Viruses are non-living extraorganism messages crucial as a source of novelty in evolution.

Nevertheless, it would be nice to find cures for them.

What I want from a PDF viewer is dark mode (white on black). I know on MacOS you can do invert colours, but that inverts the images too. Also I want to be able to view portrait PDFs in landscape mode with the text in 2 columns.
