None of what Wikimedia accuses OpenAI of seems technically novel, aside from having AI do the bidding. I can't imagine a company doing these things in the past and maintaining any sort of reputation. Is it really a matter of adding new regulation, or just treating them the way any other company would be treated?
I could see how the push for larger more profitable suvs and trucks in the name of safety is similar— the only reason they’re safer is because small cars get crushed by big cars
The equivalent in health insurance would be a blogpost listing out egregious denied claims. Sure they avoid accountability but these releases by OpenAI aren’t that
Wouldn’t the equivalent in chemical be like Exxon having a blog post of their most damaging oil spills?
Is there any precedent from other industries where a company tries to frame their own product’s shortcomings appear to be society’s problem?

Would nytimes cover a self driving car company disclose concerning ‘behavior’ of their cars the same way?

For anyone who has had to remind a coding agent to not leave comments over and over again, not following instructions seems more feature than bug

The chart in the tweet represents year-on-year growth. Based on these figures alone the actual number of people employed in tech is still really high, and the numbers can't just go up forever.

Also this only captures 6 industries, which is a narrow view of what would define "tech" these days.

Not to say that the job market isn't tough but this graph is a very narrow view

Check out the HTMX example in the blog, this helped me better understand how it could be used

Any code or blog written by Adam is worth spending some time on.

It will be interesting to see how the tasks framework develops and expands. I am sad to see the great Django-Q2 lumped in with the awful Celery though.

Seaford, the city to which this would apply, was once regarded as "The Nylon Capital of the World"!

Imagine how many cheated and didn't admit it! A very sad state of affairs...

Add our current low interest rates to the mix as well and the picture changes dramatically

This must result in a non-trivial amount of ink/toner used in the name of security
The largest chunk of savings (~85%!) is from Card Account Updater, which many payment processors offer. In some ways that says more about the B in the A/B test than it does about Stripe.
I tried to use their API for a personal project and found starting one month a bunch of transactions were missing from my bank account. It turned out Chase included a promotion on the pdf statement that month which threw off their scraping algo. Really woke me up to their "tech", I changed passwords and avoid them now.

Thanks for sharing, for some reason I think about this story a lot. It must have been such an emotionally difficult time for everyone involved in piecing back together their processes.

This reminds me of what happened to the financial services Cantor Fitzgerald after 9/11, just replacing a system with hundreds of lost employees:

Re:Stripe Treasury on Thursday December 03, 2020 @10:40AM (#25289875)
Hi Tara, this looks like it solves some of the limitations we've run into using Stripe Connect with ACH, which is very exciting! Will existing platforms using Stripe Connect eventually be able to add Stripe Treasury for existing users?
does anyone have a similar info sheet for the US trial?

Linguistica 360 has news in slow ____ for a number of languages

Fittingly, the wikipedia page for this startup [1] warns:

> This article appears to contain a large number of buzzwords.

Wikipedia's definition sure falls neatly into the author's thesis:

> ...often have much of the original technical meaning removed through fashionable use, being simply used to impress others... Examples of overworked business buzzwords include synergy, vertical, dynamic, cyber and strategy...

Based on their privacy issues, influence scandal, etc. its scary to imagine what the company looks like without the best and brightest.
My point is more for Tesla being in the news than Musk. If the two are split an uninteresting, board appointed CEO will need a different marketing strategy as Musk will likely take the soap opera effect with him.
If nothing else fighting the suit means guaranteed real estate on every major news source for months to come as it plays out

Systrom and Krieger built Instagram the product, Zuckerberg built Instagram the business
Do you have a link to the docs that shows this? From what I can find on their site [1] it only supports a few of the protocols:

-Static Password

-HMAC-SHA1 Challenge-Response

-OATH-TOTP (Yubico Authenticator)

great point on control and disruption, the lawmaker is probably making these statements / suggestions with uber & airbnb in mind
This type of thinking would do humanity a lot of good if applied to cars & rules of the road. In my opinion using a public resource (roads) you should be compelled to follow the rules

Re:Tesla DUI driver to court: “The car was driving” on Tuesday January 23, 2018 @04:54PM (#16218121)
This story seems to combine two distinct events:

1. Man pulled over in SF for DUI

2. Man crashes Tesla into firetruck

In both instances the driver blames autopilot, however the author makes the two events into one to create a convenient narrative "DUI crash with autopilot". Questions still abound for Tesla, but the DUI driver was passed out with the car stopped -- not the same story the author presents.
