Slightly tangential question but what’s with govt seized crypto assets? I had a bit of Litecoin a while back and went to check my wallet one day to find an FBI landing page instead. Is that just theirs now? Feels a bit like the gov seized control of my savings account.
Re:FedRAMP 20x – One Month in and Moving Fast on Monday May 12, 2025 @09:05PM (#43968858)
Oracle was already on the FedRAMP list I think. AFAIK this is about getting smaller cloud providers approved to host government projects so there’s more options available.
Re:A Look at Firefox Forks on Friday March 14, 2025 @03:48PM (#43366492)
I've been using zen lately mostly for the combination of "essentials" + "workspace" tab management scheme. I love having a space for tabs while also having a spot to pin stuff like email and bluesky which doesn't necessarily fit into one category or other.

Admittedly I haven't tried many other options, except sidebery which was good but not quite there for me.

I always disagree with this moving freely argument. Certainly some live where they do specifically for work, but some are also there to be close to family. They will not be interested in relocating to save a buck.

My wife ran a farmer's market for years, it can definitely be true.

Vendors tried to sneak stuff in constantly, and unless you have a market manager who really cares and is constantly vigilant, vendors will resell stuff they have bought in bulk and are reselling at a markup.

Not all vendors of course, but like anything else there's always a handful of bad actors.

I think it's pretty easy to define, actually. Were they paid in some way to do those things? If yes, then it was advertising.
Re:WordPress Drama: From the Sidelines on Friday September 27, 2024 @10:47AM (#41671160)
As someone only familiar with WP at the surface level, I had assumed that WP Engine actually was affiliated with WP, so it seems to me the market confusion is certainly intentional.
It's weird that they are implementing "Once chosen, browsers should be immediately set as the default and downloaded in the background" and not "Browsers should be able to trigger a one-click prompt to be set as the default upon being installed (as is standard on most other operating systems)". I think I would prefer the latter. If I know opening a browser is going to automatically set it as my default, I will be less likely to try out new browsers.
Re:How fast can a human possibly run 100 meters? on Monday July 22, 2024 @10:43AM (#41035007)
I've never seen Usain Bolt's speed in terms of mph before this article. A top speed of 27.8 mph is seriously incredible. Granted I'm no professional sprinter, but when I try to go much beyond 14-15 my balance can't keep up with the cadence and I start to trip over myself.
Anyone know of something similar but for interfacing with a Drupal database?
Re:Apple introduces M4 chip on Tuesday May 07, 2024 @10:53AM (#40286293)
I'd settle for some version of xcode, or some other way of not requiring a macOS machine to ship iOS apps.

Plasticity (https://www.plasticity.xyz/) is a new-ish one that looks neat, but I wish it offered a lower-price entry point.
Interesting, I recently got a MPB for a new job that was supposed to have some enrollment pre-configured, but didn't.

Weeks into my new job, the IT folks contacted me and asked "Uh, did you ever get your laptop?"

Re:WebP is so great except it's not on Friday December 15, 2023 @07:31AM (#38653493)
I never gave it much thought until I started posting my 3d renders online. Began to find serious issues, especially around posterized backgrounds as the article mentions. A problem which is exacerbated by the vignettes that renderers offer.
Perfect time to ramp up those generative AI models!
Re:Switching from Chrome to Firefox? Here Are Some Tips on Tuesday August 22, 2023 @11:29AM (#37224142)
Chrome's font makes me want to squint. Probably I'm just used to FF.
Definitely not. And even less so during winter months I would guess.

Add to that many apartment buildings share utility cost across the unit so there’s even less incentive.

Do people actually stop heating/cooling their homes while at work?

I'm kinda curious about this. Do you have any good resources on automated testing for games?

Re:Lazygit: Simple terminal UI for Git commands on Wednesday July 19, 2023 @09:05AM (#36785630)
I love this app, use it every day. Very seldom do I need to drop out of it to run a specific command (and even then it’s probably capable of doing it and I’ve just not bothered to figure out how).
Re:Montana becomes first US state to ban TikTok on Thursday May 18, 2023 @10:34AM (#35988557)
Federal gov employees also can't use tiktok on any device that is in the general vicinity of gov property.
I wonder if this is why Firefox often gets killed when I have other high-resource apps open?
I had heard of ArmorPaint, but didn't realize they also had ArmorLab. I'll have to try it out. There's another really good alternative to Substance Designer called Material Maker (https://www.materialmaker.org/)
Re:Things people blamed on bicycles on Wednesday August 24, 2022 @10:32AM (#32579967)
I regularly bike my son to school, and I seem to be the only one. Saves me >20 minutes of sitting in a car line.
Not really, I think? The video would still have to be hosted somewhere by somebody. How would a crypto token be any more valid than the license they grant you now if the video goes away?
I've been using FiraCode for a year or so and like it pretty well https://github.com/tonsky/FiraCode
Re:Update on Hiring Plans on Thursday June 02, 2022 @06:18PM (#31601239)
This isn’t poor ethics it’s self care. No one cares if you back out of an offer.

Companies are interviewing multiple candidates for a single spot, it’s insane not to expect reciprocal behavior

Re:Unreal vs. Unity Opinion on Monday April 18, 2022 @11:30AM (#31072030)
600 work hours give or take the 20,000 that got him the expertise required to sit down and write it in the first place. Do you end up with your own game engine, or a clone of Casey's game engine? That depends on what you already knew going into the series.

Not dismissing the value of the series here, just saying the average would-be game developer likely does not have the same skillset as Casey and, unless creating game engines is the goal, would be better served by Unreal or Unity.
