Re:When did Google get so f-ing weird? on Monday September 28, 2026 @04:45AM (#49875228)
I mean this is really the authors fault. First of all, this huge AI overview only blocks 90% of the screen if you use google on a phone, which you should not do in the first place. Secondly, alternatives to Google exist.
Re:GitHub is having trouble counting things on Thursday September 17, 2026 @02:07AM (#49736970)
I like how this guy has a needless problem only by using GitHub, which no one should use in the first place, but then it compounds because he uses an inferior browser. Imagine making your work life hard for yourself on purpose.

Yeah you should provide a source for that claim. I could not find any.

Or maybe stop spreading your conspiracy stories.

Re:I Feel about AI on Monday September 07, 2026 @03:41AM (#49595183)
Well, any article whose headline starts with "how" is always bad quality and/or clickbait.
Re:Nobody Wants Artisanal Code Anymore on Thursday August 27, 2026 @05:42AM (#49462124)
Did both versions ever face a security audit or pentest?
Re:Nobody Wants Artisanal Code Anymore on Thursday August 27, 2026 @05:39AM (#49462100)
Why do you end very comment with a "-"?
Re:What's New in Emacs 31.1? on Thursday August 27, 2026 @02:45AM (#49460766)

Obviously, only a Mac user would need to do that. Every other person will just do this customization the normal way.

Re:How I Under-Engineered My Book on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @06:31AM (#49359577)
Do you have somewhere an article or similar about the motivation behind this project, i.e. how did you went from "I write a novel" to "I need to write my own editor to write my novel"? That would be really interesting!
You will never write something that everyone likes. And furthermore, writing a quality text is _hard_, as in, that is something that even a native speaker will have to practice several years.

"There's a Gap that for the first couple years that you're making stuff what you're making isn't so good. it's not that great it's it's really not that great it's it's trying to be good it has ambition to good but it's not quite that good but your taste - the thing that got you into the game - your your taste is still killer and your taste is good enough that you can tell that what you're making is kind of bad."

Well, the author is a mac user.
Re:Even more batteries included with Emacs on Monday June 15, 2026 @09:07AM (#48540704)
I have asked LLMs several Emacs-related questions and _never_ got a reply that works. And at generating elisp code they are especially awful.
Re:I Put a Datacenter GPU in My Gaming PC for £200 on Monday June 01, 2026 @04:48AM (#48354193)
So you are the AI?

I mean, seriously, which human says "the compute"?

Re:It's Not Just X. It's Y on Monday June 01, 2026 @04:45AM (#48354170)
I stopped reading at "Nerd rating".

> I'm tired of people who, when they don't like an article, comment that it was "obviously written by AI" instead of arguing its merits.

The point is that this article is extremely badly written; an over-influated piece of text that could easily be ¼ as long. We assume that it is written by AI merely because AI tends to produce not-worth-reading texts like this.

Re:Bitmap fonts make computers feel like computers again on Friday April 10, 2026 @05:44AM (#47715670)
You are wrong in this regard. If you complain about "6 inches of whitespace on each side", you should read this on a proper device (i.e. a desktop computer) or just inject some CSS to fix the site (this is HN, after all).

But knowing that the article is AI generated is useful, because that tells me to not to read it.

That explains the writing style.

Yeah, this "article" is extremely badly written.
Re:What Functional Programmers Get Wrong About Systems on Wednesday February 11, 2026 @07:29AM (#46974127)
Yeah there is something funny going on with the scrolling.
Re:TIL: Apple Broke Time Machine Again on Tahoe on Tuesday February 03, 2026 @02:37AM (#46867768)
This is true. If the user was capable of testing his backups, he would not be using a Mac in the first place.
Of course Linux clients in your network can be controlled by group policy. You just need to roll out a enterprise-grade distribution like red hat.

See for example:

Re:A deep dive on agent sandboxes on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @03:44AM (#46613777)
Why not just use the standard Linux tool bubblewrap?
Re:A deep dive on agent sandboxes on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @03:44AM (#46613774)
Why not just use the standard Linux tool bubblewrap?
Re:A deep dive on agent sandboxes on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @03:44AM (#46613771)
Of course not. But it is not needed, as Mac users are not interested in data safety.

That does not matter though. If you need an AI agent for SCM you are already lost and should take a step back.

> The fact that Markdown is widely used quite successfully demonstrates that it is adequate for a wide variety of tasks. Just because $x is used for lots of tasks does not mean that it is adequate for that. People use Excel for lots of tasks that it is clearly not adequate for; (like time tracking). I knew someone who wrote his letters with Excel.

We "PC" users have a dedicated key for that on our keyboard, it is called "home". We even have the opposite, a dedicated key called "end".

lol true. It is like "problematic".
Re:X-Clacks-Overhead on Monday January 05, 2026 @04:49AM (#46496937)
Damn. I was not aware that Kevin Mitnick has passed away.
Same. I mean you can tell about the level of tech literacy just by reading that OP uses NordVPN.
You can get all the domain stuff for less than 1 € from any competent hoster, e.g. netcup. For cloud drive, if you really want to put your own files on someone else's server, there are tons of cheaper options, e.g. 2 TB for 10 €/month from strato. Gemini is of course something that no one needs.
