Bender Bending Rodriguez would approve of this title.

This title sounds like a Futerama joke if you're not in the know.

Re:A look at the creative process behind Bluey and Cocomelon on Wednesday March 12, 2025 @08:40AM (#43342590)
As a father of two daughters, I'm convinced the writers of Bluey have cameras in my house /s. There are so many times we have had a similar experience to one of the episodes. As my kids are now older than Bluey and Bingo, they still get excited when a new episode is released. We love Bluey in our house.
Re:So Many Unmarried Men on Sunday February 16, 2025 @10:31AM (#43068788)
Are you implying that marriage is, somehow, the end state of relationship building? I can assure you it does not end at marriage.
Re:Picolisp a Railroad Simulation on Sunday June 23, 2024 @11:34AM (#40768195)
I'm just gonna say that I belive Factorio is the best railroad simulator. Second only to OpenTTD.

Can we get a video flag on this please?

Most important, unlimited time.
Re:Networking for Introverts: A How-To Guide on Monday September 11, 2023 @08:51AM (#37466474)
I don't see anything in here that I would call a "How-To Guide." This reads mostly like an ad for LinkedIn and then they threw in a very poor ChatGPT reference at the end to hit the keywords.
Re:How to ramp up a factory consuming a lot of energy? on Monday June 19, 2023 @06:17PM (#36397143)
This was a feature on SCSI disk controllers. I remember one controller that had dip switches to set the spin up sequence number, and then you would configure the controller to wait for all the drives to be spinning before it tried to bring the array online.

I'm going from memory here but each Ultra 320 SCSI HDD had a startup current of almost 2 Amps so if you had a disk shelf with 24 drives and stack a few shelves in each rack you could do some serious power damage if you didn't plan the startup sequence right.

As a former Snowmaker, they're just called guns. Snow guns if you're trying to be specific.
Like several others have posted here you are in a great position to make some very simple changes that will have big results.

If you're looking for reading resources I found "Working Effectively with Legacy Code" by Michael Feathers to be very useful helping me build a plan. Yes it's an older book but that helped me appreciate this is not a new problem.

Glad I'm not the only one who reads it that way.
Re:Show HN: A short dystopian game I build last weekend on Monday July 04, 2022 @04:27PM (#31981408)
Maybe link to an about page. Dropping me straight to a login/create account is off putting. I'm sure it's a fun and interesting game but I want to know something about the content before forking over bits of PII.
We've used Slim for most things these days. I love it for its lightweight, standards based approach. I can grab PSR compliant libraries from Symphony or Laravel and usually drop them in with not too much effort.

PHP: Slim Framework

Re:What hacking AOL taught a generation of programmers on Tuesday April 12, 2022 @11:30AM (#31004013)
I used NetZero for a summer by setting up a dumb dialer machine that shared its network connection to the rest of the house. The dumb dialer autoconnected to NetZero when outbound traffic was detected and since there was no monitor plugged in no one ever saw the ads. Was a pretty simple solution for a couple broke college guys.
TOTP = Time-based One Time Password

For those like me who are bad with remembering acronyms.

Thanks for this link. I could not tell from the post what this product was or what issues it specifically solved.
Re:PHP is worth learning and using on Thursday November 18, 2021 @11:37AM (#29267378)
My team has been using the Slim Framework for years and it has servered us well. It is a microframework and follows most of the PSR standards so it is possible to replace libraries with relative ease.

https://www.slimframework.com/

Agreed and agreed.

I actually interviewed someone who had jumped from both previous employers in an 8 month time frame. In the interview he was very negative to both those groups and wanted to tell me why his ideas where so much better. My interview with him did not last long.

I have to think this is mostly due to modern toy factories and their standard tooling. You'd probably have a hard time finding a factory that could mass produce the old toy because that's just not how toys are made today.
Re:A shift in American family values is fueling estrangement on Wednesday July 14, 2021 @04:57PM (#27838343)
Maybe this is more accurate.

"Hard times create weak men, weak men create hard times"

I've never believed that adversity creates strength, at least that has not been my experience in life.

The R700/R500 are End-of-Life[1] so be sure you're OK with not getting new firmware.

That CW McCall line from Convoy brings back some serious memories.

Talk about old hobbies. When I was about 9 I found an 8-track of his and fell in love with that song. I spent much of that summer buying stereo equipment at garage sales to get a working 8-track player setup in my bedroom just so I could listen to that song on repeat.

Don't ever make an assumption like that. I have never come across this group.
Re:Hey advertisers, track this on Wednesday June 26, 2019 @08:30AM (#20284261)
Wow that's a thing I had forgotten about. I had an original iMac at the time and built a mouse mover and random site loader to trick the system. I think I made about $25 total because they shutdown shortly after that.
Re:Cash Back Credit Card Comparison on Friday March 29, 2019 @10:06PM (#19527157)
I use this Amex card for everything, the 6% back on groceries is great and more than pays for the cards higher fee. The last two years we've capped out the 6k max which is $350 right there.

Bonus, the card is clear plastic which everyone comments on when they see it.

Have a look at the Online Judge [1]. I've worked through a handful of these problems and they are good for forcing you to understand the problem and not over solve things.
