Re:French digital tax may kill VideoLan non-profit on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:47PM (#50310589)
I think the key terms to note here are: "content and applications providers" (translation's mine). The law seems to only apply to those companies producing both, which should leave VideoLan out of the picture. French can be a bit ambiguous sometimes (as English maybe), here there are 2 possible readings in French:

- content providers and application providers

- providers of both content and applications

I don't think that the first interpretation has a leg though, because of the remaining of the text.

Not any descriptive name at all, but any name only partially descriptive, where the omitted information leads to confusion.

The fully descriptive name should be "MS implementation of the MVC pattern for the ASP.NET framework".

I did read it, and I don't see where it is clearly stated or implied that only Terence Tao is ignorant, or that cancer medicine is common knowledge. So, what did I miss?

It has found its way in many Linux distros as a replacement for bash scripts when the implementation becomes just too convoluted. It's a boring syntax (though with few semantic quirks), intuitive to understand and hack, so the exact opposite to shell scripts. It get replaced by an implementation in C or Rust when the perfs start to falter. Another possible reason is that it's taught in college as an introductory language, and also that it became popular in AI circles, and thus models were mostly trained on it, perpetuating its usage. They got much better with other languages though, so maybe the situation is changing (improving maybe?). It has its merits: the syntax forces students to format their code correctly, it is very close to pseudo-code (is that a good thing though, in the end?).

MVC is still a general way of structuring code. Would it be the only way a MVC framework could or should be implemented for ASP.NET?

The point is: most people don't have an understanding of cancer medicine. Does the content of the article invalidate this argument?

As opposed to?
