Sorry, what do you mean?

-- think that's referring to bank deposit insurance schemes...

Re:iPhone Duo Teardown on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:24AM (#50255007)
well with youtube shorts optimized for really-small screens while lectures aren't...

small screens actually encourages the worst attention-seeking media consumption

Re:iPhone Duo Teardown on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:25AM (#50239842)
idk those reviewers must be bonkers if they actually said "larger screen is not great for productivity"

well of course larger screen is fking great for productivity

try reading book on iphone SE vs ipad mini

and then try taking scribbing on pdf slides with ipad mini vs galaxytab ultra (14.6inch)

you must have really good working memory to remember all the relevant context NOT shown in the screen with that iphone SE

(I noticed this because I read same stuff, but understood less stuff with that iphone se vs galtab ultra)

my only complaint is ultra tabs not getting bigger: I want 16+ inch scribble note

Re:Apple Security Research Device on Saturday October 24, 2026 @03:56AM (#50219122)
well that's cheaper than expected!
well math has always been about "understanding things" -- hence proofs and etc is the main tool in the field

(and why math differentiates between conjectures (maybe true) and theorems)

so that "oh some 3rd party person/machine understood it for me" can feel... a bit icky

Re:Alternatives to Animal Testing Are Finally Taking Off on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:36AM (#50153732)
> But without trying for millions of times, scientists won’t find the one drug that works.

well isn't it mostly other way around? millions of times to LOOK FOR hidden SIDE-EFFECTS?

animal testing is mostly for answering 'is it safe?'

> Happy to go deep on the calibration math, the compile/cache design, or where this does and doesn't make sense.

yes plz

Re:Tesla Roadster on Saturday October 17, 2026 @03:25AM (#50128790)
hmm maybe this car will appear on 007?

it's "actual stunt" car

Re:Tesla Roadster on Saturday October 17, 2026 @03:23AM (#50128779)
well... when you gotta jump over police car barricades...?

I mean if you're not sober, maybe it's a nice option to have

Re:Don't Put Tilde In Your Path on Sunday October 11, 2026 @11:38AM (#50044436)
yeah but... that convention is so much of a security/bug headache

sometimes, its footguns seem worse than javascript...

hope some typescript-like "typed shell" becomes mainstream someday

Re:Deno Is Joining Cloudflare on Friday October 09, 2026 @12:17PM (#50022729)
> acquiring an existing team of experienced engineers and tying them with the golden handcuffs is not a bad deal

well... why not tie who's already inside the company (who you actually know about) instead of an external people (who you DON't know about)?

it's much difficult to get info about some external person, and most info is about external reputation ('the looks')

though... that's the reason job-ping-pongs work: someone outside looks better than someone inside, because of your lack of info

Re:Deno Is Joining Cloudflare on Friday October 09, 2026 @10:33AM (#50021092)
well Deno was the only player who could have prevented recent npm security disasters:

built-in permission system for filesystems and etc

just forbid writing to important folders like ~/.ssh

Re:Deno Is Joining Cloudflare on Friday October 09, 2026 @10:16AM (#50020876)
well I just don't get it -- why?

unless cloudflare's CEO is a friend of cloudflare people, so just want to financially them bail out...

...why acquire and kill? cloudflare can have more outreach and reputation by keeping deno alive

Re:Friendship ended with Deno, now Node is my best friend on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @04:26AM (#49975732)
+ deno's file-system permission model is the answer to recent malicious npm packages fiasco:

"deny access to ~/.ssh and other important folders" --> that alone would likely have 99.99999% sterilized most "hacks"

> methods for using the level change every week or so

hmm doesn't mean noob will become better? if what I'm "learning" about AI is going to get deprecated every week... then it doesn't make sense to "keep up"

Re:Jev introduces a new shape of LLM on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @09:04AM (#49800633)
"even Qwen 3.8 has a hard time to consistenly conform to a schema"

idk maybe this is a feature? if some LLM model is wonky, it won't generate right json format, so I'll know for sure

but for Jev, it's 100% right format, so I can't know if it's gone wonky or not

another thing: chinese gov can just some of its wipe its populace easily (the gov controls media 100%)

but... not the western govs

yeah this

if I'm ordering 1 RAM and demanding some special customization, even mom-and-pop stores will just ignore me

but if I'm buying 100000000000 RAM, things change

well even if the results are crap, it still has big economic influence:

"since I can use AI to create this app this much, I'll pay you less"

"although current AI made this crap, it'll outpace you eventually, so I'll pay you less"

Re:Apple's Dimensional Drawings on Monday September 14, 2026 @12:03AM (#49691846)
idk maybe apple can release fbx or blender files?

I mean these seem nice for print-decorations...

any link to presentations/papers on this?

I'm interested on learning ZKPs -- they seem so much like "fairy-tale come true" because I don't know much

Re:Why is Google still serving dodgy ads? on Sunday September 13, 2026 @11:28PM (#49691595)
hmm thought this was about adwords JS 'intelligently' reading page contents, and when it finds such attribution with some special tags, filters out certain ads...

well thought I was getting some actual useful tip

Re:Why is Google still serving dodgy ads? on Sunday September 13, 2026 @05:11PM (#49688749)
hmm could you explain more?
Re:Did Meta's Big Settlement Actually Help It? on Thursday August 27, 2026 @04:18PM (#49470628)
hmm seems "Everyone can control themself" is assumed here

well, if you look at legal side, the OPPOSITE is assumed in many cases:

- age-limits on smoking cigar(rettes)/sex/drinking

- soft-limits on gambling

- hard-limits on drugs

well what can you expect?

"Head of" + "Strategic" + "Futures"...?

hard to not attract insane people

Re:Universities would prefer no AI on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @10:21AM (#49183351)
> with pen and paper level of technology

definitely try out:

galaxy s9 ultra tab (wacom! edit: also, 14.6 inch: bigger than any ipad series)

+ LAMY s-pen

+ paper-feel screen protector

(and optionally felt-tip nibs)

miles better than MPP or AES or other crap: those can't draw diagonal lines without wobbling, thought I was getting parkinsons

wait I can't find "The information is in people's heads" in that article

(what's the exact phrase?)

btw, if that's the problem, why not chop it off before leaving?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

well Deno has the necessary ingredients for defense: file-system permission by path
