You guys haven't been keeping up the boycott, have you?!
Please!
A service that is not sustainable cannot be said to be superior.

As in each and every Uber ride is subsidized to the tune of a few dollars???!!!!

Re:German research institutions boycott Elsevier on Thursday December 15, 2016 @09:26PM (#13190585)
I look at titles and abstracts, not at journal names, in my literature searches.
I don't know if the authors are trying to avoid it, but what they are describing hints at a similar conclusion for the opposites of attraction: hate + racism
Re:Yahoo discloses hack of 1B accounts on Wednesday December 14, 2016 @07:23PM (#13181113)
Easier to list who was not affected??!!
Nice: so many we's in the last paragraph.
Re:'Clean your desk': My Amazon interview experience on Thursday December 08, 2016 @11:41AM (#13131566)
Just avoid amazon.

It's really not that difficult.

Good idea to avoid amazon.

Did you try unsubscribing from all their newsletters?

The "study" is based on 20 test subjects.

Doesn't seem right to publish a paper based on such low numbers, especially when, as here, the experiment seems to be pretty cheap.

Direct link to study:

I guess that covers posting articles from the economist too?
Doesn't look too pretty, ugly in parts. Something strange about it. The ARN business looks very suspicious.

Maybe this is supposed to be pre-alpha?

Consistent with the Tim Bray blog article saying the validator's "implementation is kind of gross."

But then again: stay out of trouble, avoid Amazon.

In my experience, which is not too much, people who "home-school" their children, would better not be allowed to do so.
Re:AWS Organizations: Centrally Manage Multiple AWS Accounts on Tuesday November 29, 2016 @11:00PM (#13068389)
As usual: better stay away from Amazon!
Don't worry about the down-voters. They are just learning
Re:PoisonTap, a $5 tool that invades password-protected computers on Wednesday November 16, 2016 @10:19AM (#12967653)
Wonder if this could be a useful device in some other way (e.g. PC not responding)
Re:Is Nuclear Power Vital to Hitting CO2 Emissions Targets? on Tuesday November 15, 2016 @02:24PM (#12961299)
You (down-voter) guys really are the hoot!
Re:Is Nuclear Power Vital to Hitting CO2 Emissions Targets? on Tuesday November 15, 2016 @10:58AM (#12959089)
The short answer is, no, it's not vital. (That was easy)
Re:How Green Is That Grocery Bag Ban? (2014) [pdf] on Saturday November 12, 2016 @12:39PM (#12938983)
Is it true or is it reactionary drivel? Come on.
Re:We’re Scientists, Moms, And We Avoid Non-GMO Products on Tuesday November 08, 2016 @10:11AM (#12900813)
Looks and smells like a well-funded marketing campaign. See also this comment, https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12894370
Re:Dear Microsoft on Wednesday November 02, 2016 @11:39AM (#12855897)
Ironic. I don't think Slack is particularly well designed.

Use it every day. And it's always unpleasant.

Why does it say "New mentions" when I wasn't actually mentioned, just someone said something in some other chat.

Also, I find it pretty tedious to switch back and forth between discussions.

In terms of UI design, I suspect they don't have a good team.

Maybe it just tries to please too many people?

Re:No One Saw Tesla’s Solar Roof Coming on Monday October 31, 2016 @08:34PM (#12842367)
The 30% tax credit for solar installations may well be adjusted. These kinds of things are not so absolute.
Does a speaker count as a moving part?
They call it checks and balances
Re:Body fat link to bacteria in feces on Monday September 26, 2016 @10:40AM (#12582189)
Why now? The blurting happened in January.
Re:Why billions of dollars of goods are stuck at sea on Thursday September 22, 2016 @08:40PM (#12561516)
Doesn't look good for them. See http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-09-06/hanjin-s-g...

But am not aware of reports about how things are for them this week.

Re:Some bad Git situations and how I got myself out of them on Friday September 09, 2016 @10:08AM (#12462316)
I would not expect a university to teach git. Maybe the theory of version control systems, their history, or a comparison of different version control systems.

But not how to use the tool.

Re:How Mathematicians Cut Cake on Tuesday August 30, 2016 @09:59PM (#12395412)
I didn't think “I cut, you choose” is that fair.

Since often it's difficult to cut fairly, so the other person gets to pick a bigger piece always.
