Where's the people in software engineering? It's a bunch of abstractions floating in my head.
I doubt that.
I mean we look and act different, we're shaped different, we even smell different.
Don't succumb to the temptations of irony.
Why do people disable zoom on their page?
That's a pretty darn cool looking thing.
Funny how, guided by pure mechanical necessity, pretty stuff can arise.
I've always thought that clockwork, chips and other machines were pretty.
And fractals. ( https://fleen.org/i40.png ) And plants and animals too. And weathered rock.
Which leads me to consider what isn't pretty. Naivety?
The aim here is to get power from temperature differential, not vice-versa
Therefore city dwellers are demented and rural dwellers aren't.
(And this says nothing about the effects of noise pollution or aesthetic pollution)
EDIT
Oh come on, it's the obvious conclusion. So discuss already.
Pipes, steam, turbines...
We need better peltier devices.
Good point. So surveillance is a 2 phase thing.
Identify bad actors. That's a real time job.
Investigate bad actors. Keep literally everything and search it later at yr leisure.
That second thing opens up a possibility. We can investigate anybody who MIGHT be a bad actor too. Just constantly audit-grind 10% of the population. That's probably a legal line there.
Surveillance is our overlords's favorite thing. And AI makes it 1000x better. So good luck banning it.
Ultimately it's one of those arms races. The culture that surveills its population most intensely wins.
>I think honesty is important
Lol
Cookie monster is his strongest work. It has a VIBE.
Reminds me of permutation city
I was doing up some 1bit patterns this one time. Like 8s and 16s and whatever.
Swastikas make a nice pattern. Ya I know. But there are actually only like 7 really good strong patterns and swastikas is one of them.
Such a good graphic. Too bad about the branding.
I dunno man, name a scientist who doesn't concentrate.
Sounds like concentration meditation. (The Buddhists call it "samatha")
Concentration causes your perception to penetrate things. What you observe dissolves, its former appearance a mere veil, parted, to reveal another appearance. And then that veil is parted. And so on.
The process could be described as a penetrating, blooming or revealing.
As individuals, less work is a good thing obviously. But as a society, less work is a bad thing.
Perverse.
What do you guys play? Me a little DCSS. It's really come along.
I like Angband but its crudity repels me. It's enough to make me do my own roguelike. Almost.
Any of you try that dwarf fortress roguelike?
The ui developments are obnoxious. And there are weird delays. And it gets hot in unexpected new ways.
Seriously considering Mobian. But my banking app.
I've always considered you to be one of my most valuable assets.
There is a small community of billionaires who control everything to the best of their ability. They control for their own benefit.
Technology, its development and production, is one thing that they control.
The rest of the population (the nonbillionaires) is another thing that they seek to control. It's near the top of their list.
Phones, internet and social media are tools for controlling us. Arguably. Right?
It's cool.
It would be better if there was only 1 kind of edge instead of 2.
I refer to the broken edge and the circle edge.
It isn't the simple fact tht you have a mental disorder. And it isn't "difficult conversations about symptoms, medication, and hospitalization". It's that you act crazy. Crazy, unleavened with humility, is hard to take.
That said, the squares are easily frightened and that's a fact of life.
The wizards of yore call that breathwork "pranayama". They take it seriously. Recommend approaching it with care.
In his books, one way of travelling was to switch souls with a creature on another planet. Apparently it worked very well. Though managing a new set of limbs and senses could be difficult.
Maybe we could travel without bodies. Ala Lovecraftian astral travel or whatever. I mean you couldn't ship matter like that but for everything else it might work just fine.
Ok. As I see it, the primary hazard of centralization, and the concomitant moderation, is that control over our communication is given to a central authority.
This hazard exists whether it's a few centers or many.
Therefore any meaningful decentralization will do away with moderation.
Is this not obvious?
Please don't pretend to misunderstand me. It's annoying.
Decentralized must necessitate abandonment of moderators.
To filter the bad stuff, to inform that algorithm, we will use a shared rating system. Rating the stuff and rating the raters too.
Correlation causation etc. I'm gonna start eating whole mice. It's a nice compromise. They're velvety.
Once upon a time we ate our squirrels and wildebeests with the hair still on. Not the most pleasant of experiences but evolution exploited it for profit as it always does. Then we started skinning our meat and our teeth rotted. It's like having 2 project managers that don't talk.
