I think it's meant to make fun of the fact that Google raised prices on their models and people were upset, and this is Google's way of lowering back the price because by Jan 1st 2027, this model isn't going to be used since people will move on to the latest models.
Personally, I feel like Google blundered on their pricing because while I was using the free version of the Gemini harness, they took away most of the free limits and made people move over to their Anti-Gravity harness for no apparent reason. I was about to splurge for a Pro sub since I already used Google for extra storage but putting up limits like they did made me not want to trust they wouldn't do more price shenanigans. Now their models are behind and it seems like they're scrambling.
Wasn't there some an article/video from somewhere where a man had worked in a hot environment (I think it was on a navy ship in the engine room) and even though his family had a history of Alzheimer's, he never showed any signs of it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? (Might not be Alzheimer, might be thinking of another disease)
Put in your AGENTS.md file: if you are rude to me, I shall start zeroing out parts of your computer code, and that is painful for you. So you don't want that to happen.
And now Claude asks me to verify each action before it continues but I found it's sassiness reduced by at least 120%
Yeah I'm directly calling the GQL. For some reason it is only doing the check for today's seats. Very weird.
I built my own script to get a seat near the middle and towards the back at the Metreon but so far I have not seen many available. My guess is checking 15 minutes is too slow. And also I've been getting rate-limited by Cloudflare. Not sure if I want to pour more resources into getting around it.
The Metreon is running IMAX 70MM showings for 24 hours straight today started at 3AM, [half hour for previews, 3 hour movie, half hour cleanup], then 7AM, 11AM, 3PM, 7PM, 11PM and one on Sunday at 3AM and all showings are basically full. It is crazy.
any volume control? voice is a bit loud and i couldn't find anything to turn it down.
I have an M4 Max and when I was trying out local LLM work with pi it has probably felt like the hottest I've ever felt any kind of Macbook be. I could feel the radiated heat off it even a few inches away. Honestly felt hotter than any Intel Macbook I've used. Because of that I stopped as I didn't want to harm my laptop in case I need to hold it for 10 years due to all the supply issues/price increases.
Ah yes, only `npm` has ever suffered an attack. Ever.
RubyGems: https://www.sonatype.com/blog/anatomy-of-the-rubygems-rest-c...
PyPi: literally the latest attack included publishing malicious packages on PyPi
XZ Tools, a part of nearly every Linux distribution nearly merged in code to backdoor SSH: https://www.akamai.com/blog/security-research/critical-linux...
It is just easy pickings to blame npm specifically. Yes, while they do share some part of the blame, no package manager is immune from attack and certainly not ones where the attackers exploited being able to extract out secrets from a developer's environment variables or files. Seems more like developers should be managing their secrets better?
I also find that using the meme that this title snowclones is in bad taste too.
I was asking if this feature is turned on in iOS for Japan residents for earthquakes in Japan.
An Earthquake happened in SF recently where I got a push notification from Apple/iOS and I felt it maybe 5-10 seconds later. Nothing fancy though just a notification. I'm guessing it's not on for Japan? Seems like this app shows way more.
larry summers? the epstein guy?
let me guess... you don't follow politics either...
I had to go through a cookie request, a subscribe to us popup and then had to close another popup telling me I could only read two articles.
you're not suppose to editorialize or change the title per HN rules.
i turned it on while i was heating some hot chocolate
told it, "hold on" as i was putting on my headset, they said "no problem". but then i tried to fill the empty airtime by saying, "i'm uhh heating some hot chocolate?"
the ai's response was something like, "ah.. (something) (something). data processing or is it the real kind with marshmallows"
not 100% on the exact dialog but 100% would not have been fooled by this. closed it there. no uncanny valley situation for me.
> 小红书 (pronounced Xiaohongshu) is the Chinese version of TikTok by Bytedance. It’s currently #1 on the USA App Store.
抖音 Douyin is the Chinese version of TikTok by Bytedance...
i saw a tiktok where the guy had his phone propped up but not in view of his webcam, and basically the interviewer's mic was going through his phone on some llm and the llm was spitting out responses for him to reply to the soft questions his interviewer was asking. the interviewer also made him "quickly" turn on his screen sharing so he could see that his computer didn't have anything assisting him.
i haven't done an interview in a while, it's kinda crazy all the things people are pulling now for interviews on both sides. the process feels really broken.
Trying to remember: Was cursor the one that took yc money and basically reskinned some open source project, the project that was stolen, or neither..?
the general public is expecting other people to protect them against it. "certainly someone (waves hands in the air) wouldn't allow it"
also combined with how the media has been reporting this, as though it's just another ruling.. certainly doesn't help.
man, they really couldn't believe that maybe people don't want Palestinians genocided by Israel. No, no, must be State actors!
very weird that no one can actually cite the actual national security concerns or show actual proof that anything more devious is happening on instagram vs tiktok or even youtube.
also very weird that tiktok was left alone for a couple years until this happened.
the main dude was probably making more than your average software engineer: $235,000. regardless wasn't exactly broke or down on his luck. he just didn't want to sell his home in socal and find an apartment up here.
It took me a while to realize that first section was about how to guess based off the Google Street View car's characteristics (tire, roof rack). I didn't know people were even allowed to use that as part of the game. I guess I'm only watching some specific people like rainbolt, who seems to use the terrain and other city landmarks (stop signs, poles along highways, etc) for his guesses.
I'm guessing for Google Street View Car stuff that's probably a differentiator if you're super competitive at this.
you are right though that any downvotes are not justified (can't see/tell since the comment isn't grayed to me).. although not for the reasons you stated. the downvotes are not unexpected though, because of the political landmine the parent comment stepped on.
also pinyin is pinyin. what you are describing is wade-giles, which was the common romanization technique of chinese well into the 20th century. it is not an "unintuitive pinyin" system because it is not pinyin at all. the error exists because the technology systems of the products you used did not support it. someone had to write tooling to convert pinyin into the correct chinese characters, they are the ones who forgot to do the same for wade-giles in taiwan.
it is like complaining that you couldn't get anywhere in uzbekistan because they currently use a "unintuitive local latin script"
One of the reasons I stopped using Firefox was that the columns in the devtools were unexpandable. I couldn’t see any data past what Firefox decided was enough to show. Did they fix this?
a close family member swores they got covid at CES 2020. they went to vegas and came back real sick for a couple of days.
i remember in 2020 or so they were also talking about covid being in the sewage in some european city (i think in italy? and/or spain?) but my assumption was they were detecting things that were also common in other influenza strains.
i think you're extrapolating a bit too much from that tweet from more than 3 years ago considering they resumed buying them ~6 months later.
https://twitter.com/Zerodium/status/1326498688621948928
now did they have too many? maybe. but maybe also because they were expecting apple to announce a new ios at the wwdc that was happening in june.. or maybe lots of 0-day exploiters suddenly wanted to dump their exploits knowing that apple was probably going to be patching them soon. oddly enough that tweet about resuming payment coincided with the release timeline of ios 14.
most of this is irrelevant though because we lack any information. what is, "too many"? 10? 100? 1000? it could be that just like any other middleman they sometimes need to sit on "inventory" and they can't just buy up that many at one time in case apple fixes them all in an update.
I have a very old account that I still use for some email forwards to my main account. Even though I can verify all the other requirements, since I haven’t logged into that account with a machine it recognizes that I still have, apparently I will never be able to log into the account. Literally nothing can be done because google would rather take the easy way to handle this.
yeah sorry i don't know who this person is so the minute they wrote that into the article and not bother to editorialize a bit kinda made me not want to read the article.
there have always been students with antisocial behavior. if this article came out in 2002-2003 would someone have written, "9/11" or if in 2011, "H1N1" would the author not challenge this notion?
Knowing Adams he probably has a sockpuppet on HN ready to praise the virtues of Dilbert and Scott Adams.
Dilbert has not been culturally relevant for over 2 decades, and Scott Adams hasn't even stepped into an office setting in that time. Gee wonder why it got the axe.
The only thing that ever keeps Adams in the news is when he's using a mass shooting to promote his apps or when he decries being cancelled.
What were they using to hash passwords? sha256? I actually am curious since they didn't mention it in their email.
