We played several games at work. The finale was a guy actually paying people off (like with cash) to close out a win. I consider that a raging success.

Yes!

They missed it badly. Mostly under Jassy’s reign.

Look at it like this. They had millions of voice interface devices already sitting in some large percentage of (at least US) households.

And they squandered it. Extremely late to the LLM game. Even today the Alexa interface is ridiculously bad.

Article fails to mention things like hardware time stamping, interleaved NTP, and PTP.

Here is an alternative that I think has real potential:

That’s not what this is. Nor do we need more of them.

You might like a project I’ve been having on. I’m having fun with it. https://donglora.com/
DECT is definitely neat. But it’s significantly different than LoRa. At the lowest/slowest modulation you might get single digit kilometers out of it.

Doesn’t change my excitement about it a bit though. Eager to get this onto my workbench!

Re:Let's Buy Spirit Air on Sunday May 03, 2026 @08:44PM (#48003270)
Let’s throw good money after bad!!!

Brilliant.

Not much. While this is technically LoRa on 2.4GHz (which is not new), most people will associate LoRa with significantly longer range and LoRa 2.4 can do.

Who cares? It’s their content. If they hired an editor to help them, cool. If the content doesn’t suit you, move on.

But the incessant “AI was used here, thus is it garbage” is long past time to enter the grave.

This is the answer.
You do you. There’s nothing wrong with AI. It’s here to stay. It’s really good now, and yet it is presently the worst it will ever be, by far.

Just tell your model to speak more casually, more conversationally, and more like it’s human written. Tell it to avoid any “AI tells,” most of which are BS anyway.

If people accuse you of using AI, ignore them.

Comrade, thank you for correcting the record. The word "competitor" has been retired from the lexicon effective immediately. All FOSS developers are friends. All FOSS developers have always been friends. Anyone who remembers otherwise will be assisted by the Ministry of Love in recovering the correct memory.

> especially when it was once suggested that frequent use could imply neurodivergence

When you think folks have come up with every inventive way to pathologize a personality trait, they start gatekeeping punctuation. It’s the ultimate reach—turning a standard grammar tool into a "symptom" just to fuel the modern obsession with finding new ways to be a unique victim.

Suggesting that a horizontal line is a diagnostic "tell" for neurodivergence is peak internet brain-rot. It’s not a condition; it’s middle-school English. We’ve officially hit a level of performative absurdity where people are trying to claim clout through a keyboard stroke. It’s not a disability; it’s a stylistic choice.

Here’s to ending a brutal, murderous dictatorship, bringing freedom to 90M Iranians, and to a new era in the Middle East. Anyone helping with that, including Anthropic, is on the right side of history. I thank them.

Yes. I realized I should’ve clarified that and edited it into my comment in parallel with your comment.

Yes, indeed. I should’ve mentioned that in my comment.

Their solution is that you must read at a 3rd grade level in order to get promoted to 4th grade. It brought them from basically the worst State to the 30th percentile in reading for 4th graders.

So, common sense? If you’re requiring proficiency in order to promote, then I’d expect to see significantly better results than this.

It’s noteworthy that they’re still basically the worst in 8th grade reading and math. Might take some time for these literate 4th graders to get up to 8th grade age.

I don’t think Alabama is a model for anything related to public education.

For the average American citizen, status quo.

For the scofflaws and illegal immigrants, the realization that accountability for their actions might be right around the corner must be unnerving.

Re:Canada Announces Divorce from America on Wednesday January 21, 2026 @09:22AM (#46706090)
You're confusing economic status with cultural ideology.

If pushing ESG mandates, DEI initiatives, 'Stakeholder Capitalism' (over shareholder primacy), and top-down climate interventions isn't the platform of the modern elite Left, what is? The fact that they are wealthy hypocrites doesn't make them right-wing.

But if you prefer the term 'Technocratic Globalists,' fine. The point stands: Carney played to that room rather than the reality of the Canadian economy.

Re:Canada Announces Divorce from America on Wednesday January 21, 2026 @08:53AM (#46705728)
> Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, gave a magnificently powerful speech before the gathered elites that will be discussed many years from now. Decades, likely.

Extremely unlikely.

Davos is 95% elite echo chamber, virtue signaling, and complete bullshit, with only a rare 5% historical exception where the gathering actually resulted in binding, real-world consequences.

Anyone that thinks this speech will have any lasting impact is delusional.
