It's how things work. Deal with it.

Personally, I replaced Postman years ago with IntelliJ's HTTP client. It is pretty good.

Whenever I spot this shitty cop out here, it is always on a bad take. Never fails.

Can you share any of these many open source projects? I am curious about them.
Re:Revolut moves to self-hosted GLM on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @09:55AM (#50352785)
Er, for me it would be a massive upgrade. Hopefully my employer follows this lead.
Re:Anthropic's growth just flattened (really) on Monday November 02, 2026 @08:26PM (#50346797)
I reduced my Opus 5.5 usage and increased my Haiku 5.5 usage.

I wonder if more people using Haiku coming from more expensive models may have an impact in those metrics.

With expert supervision, absolutely.

I use AI daily. It still makes plenty of mistakes and need plenty of oversight to be useful.

How many tokens did you burn on this?
> Yeah, I used to have a lot more faith in companies being responsible, but no longer. Instead what we've been seeing is that companies cannot be trusted with vital infrastructure.

I am in the same boat. Companies will optimize for profit and rent-seeking, all else be damned. A nuclear meltdown would be a negative externality, if line goes up it would have been worth.

> We need reform

Any reform needs to account for corporations being machines optimized to generate profit. Regulations should ensure "negative externality" is not really externalized.

Corporations only understand profits, and investors should be understood as entities willing to leech from society. The only way to heandle corporations is by having failures threatening the money that investors can leech through this pipeline.

> Nuclear power plants will be run by private companies that will weasel out on maintenance to save a penny.

I am as pro nuclear (actually pro anything not fossil fuel), but this was actually the best counter argument I came across:

Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:12PM (#50318482)
1) I don't believe that will happen.

2) Even if does, Chinese open models are very close in capabilities.

1.25T? Yes.

Open models exist, and are extremely capable. OpenAI will never achieve a decent ROI when that is true.

Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @07:07AM (#50314901)
Would it partly be explained by Haiku 5.5?

At work I am stuck with Claude, but I was always mindful of the cost of that thing.

With aggressive clean session management and some judicious compacting, I get Opus to plan, Haiku to code, Sonnet to review.

I managed to reduce costs from ~$200 to ~$50 in a month, even when I started to use Claude for more tasks than I did before.

It is low "junk" in our hearts
Re:Proton's CEO Cancels AI 'Re-Interviews' on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:53PM (#50309296)
I used to love Proton, but now I am looking for alternatives. With a moron like that at the helm, it is a matter of time for it to become shit.

Any suggestions of a good email provider?

Also, a VPN that plays nicely with port forwarding for torrents?

Re:Anthropic Cracking Down on Video Game Rewrites on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:35PM (#50307347)
Who cares?

Anthropic is irrelevant in this front when there are other capable providers and open weight models.

It's just one more reason to not pay for their services.

I am the last person that will defend Anthropic, but I don't really think they are malicious.

Claude Code is a shitty harness.

Re:Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:39AM (#50271980)
You know what is actually not ideal?

Having hordes of people in poverty while we bend over backwards to not inconvenience the rich with "selling stocks" to pay taxes".

Re:Anthropic S-1 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @05:20AM (#50256445)
Which is beyond the point. I was replying to someone that mentioned shorting Anthropic if you think it is a bad investment.

I presume they are not playing with shorting with your retirement account?

Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:19AM (#50244165)
Shorting is not the only way to protect yourself from a bad investment.

You can simply not buy shares in companies you think are on a doomed trajectory.

That said, depending on the IPO target price, I might short it.

Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:58AM (#50241824)
I don't like the idea of reelections in general. I think it is generally damaging to democracy. Ideally I would not even add term limits, but they should all be non-consecutive.

Still, as you said, this context is important. Lula left in 2010 and came back in 2022 after having been arrested, freed, and then defeating Jair Bolsonaro, who was the current president and a fierce rival.

That said, I think reelections are actually more damaging in the legislative (and it is not uncommon to have congressmen and senators for 20, 30 years straight).

Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Sunday October 25, 2026 @10:02PM (#50238202)
Not in a row.

Lula served two terms from 2002-2010, and came back in 2022 (now to serve until 2030, if he lives until then).

Re:JetBrains Thinkrail on Sunday October 25, 2026 @05:19PM (#50236164)
As a Pi user, this may be very interesting. Especially after they add full support for Pi extensions.

I tried Air before and found it underwhelming. I tried using it around Pi through ADB, but it didn't any benefit around using Pi purely.

> Bolsonaro is only "extreme right" by Brazilian standards.

You're hopeless. The same kind of mouth-breather that claims Nazis are left wing because the party has "socialist" in its name.

Either way, extreme right or no, Bolsonaro is extreme stupid. One of the most retared politicians to disgrace South America. His son proves that the apple does not fall far from the tree.

Yes, yes. The famous leftist Jair Bolsonaro, preceeded by the communist Michel Temer in that period attest to your moronic view of recent history.

Also, would be very good to take notice that through most times while the "leftist" government was in power it had to deal with a reactionary congress.

Right wing winning in South America is nothing new, especially when the US decides to back the right wing (either through elections or through coups).

Historically, it is one of the main reasons why South America is the hellscape it is.

And, by the looks of it, it will keep being a hellscape.

> If not "wealth taxes", then what? Poverty taxes?

We are on HN. Do you have any doubts about the demographic here would prefer?

Gotta brown nose those corporate overlords.

Re:Shitter – A Nitter Fork on Friday October 23, 2026 @01:14PM (#50212307)
Do you think homosexuals can't be far right?

AfD wants to do mass deportations (because nothing bad ever happened when a party in Germany had the idea to mass deport people based on ethnicity). Their leader can be a lesbian and still have a platform that is pretty extremely to the right

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/09/07/europe/afd-first-place-sa...

> Otherwise, yes, I think labeling any party which works within the legal bounds as “far” is dangerous

Keep in mind that the NSDAP also operated within the legal boundaries.

Based on your asinine rationality, labeling the fucking nazis in early 1930s as far right would be "dangerous".

Re:Shitter – A Nitter Fork on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:06PM (#50211248)
Er, Musk did a Nazi salute and publicly supported the AfD in Germany.

What else do you need to agree that he is far right? Wear an SS outfit? Put some people in ovens?

I thought the agents were largely autonomous, and should replace workers?

If labor is not your constraint, you wouldn't be diverting your specialization.
