I don't think the problem is that people can't influence their governments. Even if big majority is on the right side, it's about prioritization and we don't care enough compared to other things. But it's sad that we need to even care a lot and campaign so much for such an agreeable thing. But whole epstein cover up thing is making me concerned, but I guess that's also because of people cult following and blindly trusting people like trump or simply caring more about other topics like immigration.
I think they were hoping for more advanced model’s more advanced “taste”
Re:Show HN: GPT-2 implemented using graphics shaders on Saturday May 03, 2025 @09:47AM (#43879005)
> Back in the old days, people used to do general-purpose GPU programming by using shaders like GLSL. This is what inspired NVIDIA (and other companies) to eventually create CUDA (and friends).

I learned about this at the lecture last week. So fun to see this project.

Re:How to help us build open source Pebble software on Friday February 07, 2025 @04:41PM (#42977793)
the OS is the hardest part and they are developing it as open source. my understanding is that anybody can develop hardware for PebbleOs.
Are there any established alternatives to this? I couldn't seems to find them even though it's such a good idea and I think there is demand for this. Thank you.
Haha, exactly the book I was searching
it’s a pleasure since I’m Georgian, but there seems to be a bug that Georgia appears in every list without any logic.

I see this as valuable. Makes you reconsider everything you read online.
Re:Show HN: Coursemate, connect with other self learners on Saturday April 01, 2023 @09:18AM (#35400087)
I think this project should double down on the getting to know new people aspect and not bother with the messaging aspect.

Doesn't TV shows and movies also contain diverse cast and help us relate to people with different backgrounds, race, sexual orientation, etc.? For example, i think Hollywood movies depicting homosexuality have large impact on people watching them from conservative countries.

if you are in a developing nation, which most of users likely are, then seeding or downloading illegal torrents won't be any problem. But I don't know about others.

Re:Japanese typography: Kilograms of sinograms on Thursday March 25, 2021 @10:19AM (#26580595)
interesting perspective, but more important reason in my opinion is that Japanese has so simple pronunciation (many vowels and fewer sounds all together), so Japanese people are not accustomed to making those difficult sounds that are in English.
Re:Japanese typography: Kilograms of sinograms on Thursday March 25, 2021 @10:10AM (#26580498)
Yeah, good point. Some more: anime, manga, samurai.
Re:Ghana will no longer sell cocoa to Switzerland on Sunday March 21, 2021 @01:40PM (#26532235)
well, it's still better than buying stuff from Chinese company if you are trying to "de-chinaze". Also, I don't think you have any other option. ah, aren't samsung phones made in South Korea? so you do have alternatives.

idk bacteria aren't considered animals right? Also they don't have a nervous system, which a lot of vegans take into account. And also it's about minimizing harm rather than fully eliminating it.
Since couple of years ago, Stardew valley at least on pc is self-published

Yeah, Firefox on mobile sucks, but they are fortunately working on a major update. Firefox on the desktop rocks tho.
Not all vegans think like this. I'm a vegetarian, but I really don't think, that I am a better person than meat eater. :)

ETA: btw great job making effort to partly cut out meat from your diet. I myself want to become vegan, but I just can't switch immediately. IMO there is nothing wrong with gradual approach.

P.S. sorry for my broken English.
