Re:Sexual assault has already started in Meta’s Horizon Worlds metaverse

How is this any different from a person groping your avatar in second life? The display is just different. If this is tantamount to assault then the zombies in the last VR game I played need to be behind bars. And the kids in VR chat that do silly things to others.
You can take the headset off at any time. Unless of course, Poe’s law. But I think I’m just an outlier of opinion here. I’ve used VR heavily since oculus dk1 days.
I think folks are buying into marketing too heavily. It’s just a different display medium

What are some resources you’d recommend for me to understand this level of firmware development better? I’d love to understand it a bit deeper than a quick code review
Re:Ask HN: Have you ever been boreout? If so, how did you cope/fix it?
on Monday November 22, 2021 @11:02AM (#29307837)
My honest answer is Ritalin. I occasionally use it to get into a groove again and it helps me explore new interests that I can continue the momentum with off the prescription. This might be controversial and or unhelpful, but it’s my personal experience with this. My job is steady and well paid, so I don’t want to move to a stressful startup. I also have adhd since childhood, so YMMV.

I do not disagree with you one bit, and appreciate the thoughtful response. Though tinder and other dating apps do not have age verification either. We probably need photo id verifications

Re:My mindfulness practice led me to meltdown

Anecdotally mindfulness increases my neuroticism by becoming too self aware. I’m curious if anyone else experiences this?

“I” create dozens of ephemeral terraform deployments for every iaas every day using terraform so I don’t have this luxury. Do you have any suggestions for keeping tabs on automated systems beyond spend anomalies?

Those are all example of observable phenomena. Dark matter is an inference made by inconsistencies with theory. I think they’re vastly different because it overstates the certainty. Maybe I’m splitting hairs

Re:The mortifying ordeal of pairing all day
on Monday May 10, 2021 @12:25PM (#27107790)
I have ADHD and pairing is liberating. I don’t need medicine, I can stay focused and motivated for years. I’m seriously worried that I’ll have to get back on medicine because the pairing opportunities in the industry are becoming so far and few between. If anyone has recommendations I’m all ears (and eyes)!

Yeah there aren’t three fixed points of either disbelief, true middle ground, or belief. It’s a spectrum and I fall more towards the disbelief point in this case, but that doesn’t stop me from critically evaluating the possibility that I’m on the wrong end of the spectrum

This is how programming generally feels to me. I love having written a useful / interesting tool or function, but sometimes getting started is like pulling teeth.
