Re:Pebble Round 2 – The Most Stylish Pebble Ever on Monday January 05, 2026 @04:53PM (#46505529)
There's a ton of apps and watchfaces on the Pebble that show the weather
Re:May 5, Microsoft's Skype will shut down for good on Friday February 28, 2025 @11:04AM (#43207152)
Why not just use something like Google Meet? You send a link and the other person just needs a browser.

It's a pain to deal with syncing issues on Signal Desktop.

Re:Meta outage on Tuesday March 05, 2024 @11:24AM (#39605642)
Could be an outage in the auth service itself
Re:Exway doesn't care about USB-C conformity on Wednesday July 26, 2023 @08:51PM (#36887370)
Reminds me of issues I had with the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt bike computer:

For some weird reason it cannot charge if you plug the other end of the USB-C cord to a Apple made charger. It works with all other USB-C wall bricks.

Never understood what that was about

Re:HDR QR Code on Monday June 19, 2023 @08:33AM (#36390328)
Given the popularity of QR codes now, I wonder if it makes sense for it to just be supported directly in HTML as a type of element.

<qrcode>Some content!</qrcode>

With necessary browser/device level support to automatically do this HDR thing.

UPI support for non-residents has been announced, but not sure of the timeline.
Re:Cyclists Now Outnumber Motorists in City of London on Monday March 20, 2023 @04:32PM (#35238238)
I would personally bike more often to more places if only there was some way to securely park my bike at the destination (grocery stores, restaurants, etc.).

The only place I can reliably bike to at the moment is my office which has a secured bike parking.

Re:Golink: A private shortlink service for tailnets on Wednesday December 14, 2022 @11:27AM (#33985809)
Take documents for example. You can have go/feature1-design-doc that points to a Google doc with the design discussion for feature 1.

No need to find it on Google Drive (where the title may or may not follow consistent patterns) or remember which of the many Google doc links in autocomplete is the correct one.

Re:Tailscale Funnel on Friday November 18, 2022 @12:40AM (#33650831)
This.

You can anyways access Jome Assistant over tailscale without all this.

I think there is even a Tailscale addon for HA.

Re:Tailscale Funnel on Friday November 18, 2022 @12:39AM (#33650822)
I think a lot of us are ok with it because of how Tailscale operates (it’s not like a typical VPN and most traffic will bypass tailscale’s servers anyway).

What’s the threat model you are worried about?

> and all if his shares vest immediately

I don't think so. I believe they only get the November 15, 2022 vesting.

Re:Meta lays off 11,000 people on Wednesday November 09, 2022 @11:56AM (#33534392)
On the day after the US election as well. Great way to avoid making the headlines.
Re:Innovative Rich Text Editing: Typing Affinity on Sunday November 06, 2022 @09:52AM (#33493217)
Brilliant work! Wish I was a Mac user.

For the hyperlinks, it seems editing the text and visiting the link is easy. But there isn’t a way to edit the hyperlink itself quickly?

Have you considered using affinity cursor along the up/down for that as well? Eg. Up updates the hyperlink content while default/down updates the link text.

Not sure how it would work out UX wise. Maybe opens up a popover with cursor for the hyperlink.

Hmm. How would this work for regular non-tech savvy users?

I doubt regular customers know what a MAC address is.

Re:Passkeys.io – A Passkey Authentication Demo on Tuesday October 25, 2022 @12:17PM (#33332641)
It supports multiple user names. From what I've seen in screenshots it shows a picker to select the account you want if there are multiple applicable.
Re:Canonical releases Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu on Thursday October 20, 2022 @03:32PM (#33279542)
Agreed!

Snap can't even update snap-store because it is running in the background.

There is no way for a non-tech savvy person to even figure out how to get past that error.

Re:Apple Watch Ultra on Wednesday September 07, 2022 @05:43PM (#32757357)
ANT+ support comes to mind
Re:Raindrop: All-in-One Bookmark Manager on Friday June 24, 2022 @12:21PM (#31864826)
Is there a way to export data in some viable format?
I've actually put my Yubikeys through worse. They've always survived :)

These were the larger ones. Not sure how the smaller "nano" ones would perform.

I wanted to record Jeopardy everyday.

A Tivo subscription was too expensive, so I built my own DVR software to record from Locast. Worked like a charm until Locast shut down.

I had to replace it with a bunch of cron jobs + shell scripts which record using a local TV antenna connected to a NUC.

Puts out nice little mp4 files into a NFS which I can access anywhere in the world over Tailscale.

Re:The United States Digital Corps on Friday April 08, 2022 @12:36PM (#30959289)
Unfortunately both this and USDS require the applicant to be a US Citizen.

I wish there was a similar option for folks who are not yet citizens but currently work in the US tech industry (maybe in exchange for some sort of a streamlined path to citizenship).

Similar to the (now paused) MAVNI program.

Re:Pixel prevented me from calling 911 on Thursday December 09, 2021 @02:17AM (#29494733)
I believe that permission is only needed for the Find My App itself (so that it can display the map correctly centered w.r.t where you are).

I don't think it affects finding that device from other devices.

Re:WhatsApp – About multi-device beta on Tuesday September 28, 2021 @10:29AM (#28683219)
I'm already able to use it on the iPad.

Just went to web.whatsapp.com and made it a home screen shortcut in Safari.

Re:Initial M1 support merged into Linux SoC tree on Friday April 09, 2021 @10:22AM (#26750922)
Even on a Dell XPS Developer Edition (that comes with Linux) I can't get the webcam to use the full resolution or get bluetooth audio to work reliably.

So I get where folks are coming from.

Yup, the DMV point especially resonates with me.

When I got my driver's licence, the only thing they verified was that I could put the car in gear and drive it in a straight line a couple of meters.

Was glad to have a thorough driver's test when I moved to the US.

Re:Giving More Time for Our Recent Update on Friday January 15, 2021 @03:27PM (#25795918)
Yes, I am confused as well.

Something has to have changed or else they wouldn't need people to accept new terms right?

Re:Are the dead taking over Facebook? on Monday April 29, 2019 @01:27PM (#19780474)
It is really nice that Facebook provides the "memorial" feature. Some important sites like LinkedIn lack this.

I often get notifications asking me to "Congratulate ___ on completing 3 years at ___" when I know that the person has passed away.

Re:Firefox Send: Free encrypted file transfer service on Tuesday March 12, 2019 @11:34AM (#19369127)
It would be really amazing to build some sort of integration in commonly available WiFi connected scanners and printers.

Currently, my scanner conveniently sends me emails with scanned documents. But I have not insight into how they actually store and delete the document on the backend.

Would be great if the scanner had the option to upload to Firefox Send and show me a QR code to download it on other devices.

I think it's just part of the blitzscaling process.
