Re:Ask HN: How's the biotech industry in the Bay Area? on Tuesday March 30, 2010 @08:26PM (#1230584)
"The industry remains strong, Lem said, but it has seen waves of layoffs largely because of company mergers such as Switzerland-based Roche taking over Genentech in South San Francisco."

Re:Ask HN: What's wrong with procedural programming? on Friday March 26, 2010 @02:07PM (#1221644)
C is probably better for writing cross-platform (Win, Mac, Linux) code than C++. See Linus Torvalds comments:

On the other hand, large corporations probably prefer OO programming. Paul Graham has some good quotes:

"Object-oriented programming offers a sustainable way to write spaghetti code. It lets you accrete programs as a series of patches. Large organizations always tend to develop software this way"

http://www.paulgraham.com/hundred.html

"At big companies, software tends to be written by large (and frequently changing) teams of mediocre programmers. Object-oriented programming imposes a discipline on these programmers that prevents any one of them from doing too much damage."

Nolo press publishes a lot of good books for people who want to learn about various laws:

It's a quote from the YC application:

Your question reminds me of something I read about Larry Ellison:

"Ellison claims his greatest lesson while from Gene Amdahl was never to take venture capital money. Amdahl took vc money, and they fired him."

You might want to look at some open source software like Open Clinica:

Are you talking about a virtual school or a real physical school?

On a related note, there are some geologists who believe the Earth has increased in volume/mass over millions of years:

For instance, dinosaurs grew very large because the Earth was much smaller with less mass and gravity.

Re:Suppose The Earth Got Saturn's Rings... on Thursday January 21, 2010 @07:47PM (#1068818)
The idea of Earth having rings is proposed by some Creationists who call it a "canopy":

Re:Ask HN: Rate my idea - a site for OCD sufferers on Tuesday December 29, 2009 @02:22PM (#1021066)
How would your site be different from "Patients Like Me" where people discuss their medical conditions?
