> It's tricky, do you want future meetings to follow the city they're in, or do you want past meetings to properly track when they happened across zone redefinition (and what even is correct)? There's no simple way to get this right everywhere.

I thought using the city (America/Edmonton or America/Vancouver) does both of these though?

Can they avoid this tax by moving their servers to a neighbouring country?
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:27PM (#50291681)
I mean right away you're assuming everyone has a car, if you don't have one then a service like this can save you a lot of time getting groceries.

There's also times when you have people over and don't want to leave to pick something up.

And times when you are too tired or sick and don't want to leave the house

Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:13PM (#50291409)
They're literally direct competitors lol
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:11PM (#50291373)
DoorDash has a ton of grocery delivery, it's the only one i use for that now because instacart has a payments bug. Very weird that the only two big competitors in this space in North America can just merge like this
And sticking with it until that time. Both important skills

I guess oxide gets away with it because they have the podcast and lots of people know a lot about the company and are pretty sure they want to work there. It's like would you do a nine hour interview to find out if you can go on a date with some random person from a dating app, no, but would you spend 9 hours with someone that you see potential to be your future wife or husband when there's mutual interest? Yes

Economic warfare against the US? I mean maybe against specific US companies and stakeholders but on the whole it seems like it's good for the US economy as well as the rest of the world, kind of like supplying free electricity would be
> The communication must be made in a manner in which another person may view it

IANAL but it will be interesting to see how the legal system decides if this counts as "another person may view it" or not. What has happened in similar ish cases where someone writes a threat like that that they thing is private to them but actually ends up in the hands of Someone at some tech company that reports it?

I saw an interview with Bill Gates once where he said that one thing he would've done differently is more quickly come around to the idea of sending people to Washington. Apparently he didn't like the idea of lobbying and that cost them when the regulators started coming for them
Re:English: A vs. An on Saturday September 19, 2026 @10:26PM (#49771997)
GP is talking about the name of the letter H like when you're saying the ABCs. How do you pronounce it?
Re:English: A vs. An on Saturday September 19, 2026 @10:23PM (#49771981)
Some YouTubers always say a like the letter a (e.g. the vowel in "day")

I find it pretty annoying. A different YouTuber had a good video about it though https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4IJLyFAzYes&ra=m

Re:English: A vs. An on Saturday September 19, 2026 @10:18PM (#49771955)
An historic just sounds pretentious, sorry :p

Some people pronounce nvidia as nuhvidia others as envidia so when the writer puts "a" or "an" before it they're revealing how they pronounce it
Re:English: A vs. An on Saturday September 19, 2026 @10:11PM (#49771923)
It's similar to a/an, thuh is before a consonant and thee is before a vowel. And thee is also used for emphasis. But some people use a / thuh before a vowel. Do you have an example?
Re:English: A vs. An on Saturday September 19, 2026 @09:59PM (#49771864)
That one is more natural without the word "some" imo
Re:OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:59PM (#49757120)
Not everyone hates them. A lot of people do, it can be a tough job because of that but it's just a form of marketing/sales. So is cold emailing. You can get customers that love your work or your product that way, some people will be annoyed along the way but if you're providing real value to the people who become your customers I think it's usually reasonable to be using those channels.

Anyway I was being facetious i hate ads as much as the next guy when I'm using a service like YouTube where they force ads on you and fight against my ad blocker. But having run ads myself i have some sympathy for the advertisers now.

Re:OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:44PM (#49756927)
I wasn't saying people who receive ads find them useful, although that can sometimes be true. I was saying they are useful for the people that are paying to run them
Re:Replacing Pull Requests with Delta on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:40PM (#49756862)
At least traditionally, software engineers avoided everything except coding for a long time, but now i guess that's changed

Did you open a new issue?

Ads are useful, they help you reach customers

Reminds me of the mouse utopia studies i read about where the mice didn't have to work and there was plenty of food and water, no diseases etc and eventually everything got all messed up and the mice lost the ability to reproduce
I probably wouldn't want to drink milk from an unhealthy cow though
If you're on Android you can use AntennaPod. I switched to pocketcasts when I switched to iOS

What if they charged money? Is it something you'd pay for?
Too bad because they have some incredible products
Nice i didn't realize it was open source now

Curious to see what happens when the fashion cycle runs its course and skinny jeans are in again and these big phones don't fit in our pockets anymore. Will phones get smaller or will we stop carrying them around and instead use wearables and retinal implants?
