Re:John Gruber takes 'The Talk Show' to Mule Radio on Friday May 18, 2012 @05:34PM (#3994150)
Agreed on Hypercritical being the stronger show now. It's also something that ages better, so that old episodes are still informative.
Re:Journey, unofficial Path client for Mac (open source) on Wednesday February 29, 2012 @01:44PM (#3649077)
FYI: it's not compatible with 10.5.
Re:Daring Fireball: Cookies and Privacy on Saturday February 25, 2012 @01:38AM (#3632357)
Is there a clear guide to only allowing "first party" cookies using Chrome?
Re:Daring Fireball: Cookies and Privacy on Saturday February 25, 2012 @01:30AM (#3632342)
Strange. There was a comment supporting you that referred to the "Ad men" that would downvote you.

That comment has completely disappeared.

[Edit: bstar77 has cleared up the situation.]

Re:Apple announces Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on Saturday February 18, 2012 @04:03AM (#3606279)
How would you improve Finder?
"5GB's" should be "5GBs".
It's "champing at the bit."
Hiring for Q2 perhaps?
Re:I laughed at Posterous, but they proved me wrong on Thursday June 17, 2010 @12:20PM (#1439398)
All of the black hats who want to abuse numerous holes in your browser of choice?

They wouldn't necessarily even have to get you to click on a link. There have been numerous attacks against image processing libraries.

Wow. Uninformed headline and speculation.

I'm pretty sure they're rejecting usage of an unofficial regex API. Nothing to get too excited about and I'm definitely sure they're not rejecting pcre, etc.

Re:Opera 10.6 - HTML5, and then some on Monday June 14, 2010 @10:51AM (#1429813)
Microsoft is really throwing money at search lately. Bing is everywhere (Colbert, iOS 4, "Filomena", "Search Overload").

How long can they keep it up for the returns they're getting?

Re:ARM stock rises 25%, Apple bid rumours resurface on Thursday June 10, 2010 @11:31AM (#1420397)
What about making the purchase defensively? I.e. to keep it out of Google's hands.
It's important for resource-constrained devices. Think netbooks and smartphones.

Re:Google Chrome for Linux goes stable on Tuesday May 25, 2010 @06:36PM (#1378872)
Also wanted to say thanks, especially for making all user-tracking optional.

In addition, I'm really happy to see Apple and Google keep cooperating on making WebKit better. Together you've now built the best desktop and mobile browser technology.

Re:Google Chrome for Linux goes stable on Tuesday May 25, 2010 @04:16PM (#1378460)
Seconded. Can't find anything like this in the release version of the Mac build.
Re:Google Chrome for Linux goes stable on Tuesday May 25, 2010 @04:15PM (#1378449)
The stable Mac version has better idle CPU usage. Doesn't cause my MBP fans to crank up so often.
Re:Jisp - Lisp implementation in JavaScript on Sunday May 23, 2010 @09:19PM (#1373515)
Marc Feeley of Gambit Scheme wrote Jss, which might be similar:

Re:AutoCAD appears headed back to the Mac on Sunday May 23, 2010 @07:19PM (#1373332)
Steam, AutoCAD, possibly Rhino. Why are all these companies doing their ports now, when Apple is so focused on mobile computing?

Are they just slow to react? Making a bet on the halo effect from iPhone/iPad?

Re:Ask HN: What's your morning routine? on Friday May 21, 2010 @02:50AM (#1366617)
Not to be mean, but I don't think this is really worthy of discussion here.
Re:The Gloves Are Officially Off: Google Vs. Apple on Thursday May 20, 2010 @04:49PM (#1365355)
I actually thought Conan gave him too hard a time. Vic came out looking like an affable, though slightly stiff, nerd.
I would argue that the age of Unix as an end-user OS is already here. See iPhone and Android sales figures. Also, WebOS, etc.
Re:Google IO streaming live on Wednesday May 19, 2010 @03:39PM (#1362077)
For an even better contrast, compare with Microsoft.

Re:Try Clojure on Tuesday May 18, 2010 @10:50PM (#1359927)
Great work.

Please hook this up to ymacs!

Also, the highlighting in the tutorials makes the code difficult to read.

Re:Microsoft sues Salesforce on Tuesday May 18, 2010 @08:41PM (#1359660)
As jimfl posted, I think they are feeling threatened by "enterprise" apps built on the Salesforce platform.

The future of the Microsoft tax.
