I am jolted, nearly shocked, that in 2026 you have to maintain some Flash-based websites. Can you share?

You also need good writers who by example make it perfectly clear what's what.

I don't know if it's perfect, but I have yet to meet anything better. I discovered it late in my 20-year technical writing career, and it felt like meeting an old friend for the first time.

The trouble with DITA is that it is very often accompanied by its own very opinionated toolchain, although of course it's not mandatory. There are better ways to write docs nowadays than wrestle with XSL/FO and its brethren.

I've found https://diataxis.fr/ to be an excellent framework on which to hang documentation efforts. It helps you to understand what kinds of documentation resources help users most.

In the UK, the situation is more extreme, where every so-called 'startup' I find is either working in the payments industry (... truly a new furrow to plough /s) or the coin industry.

Re:‘Attractive women 16% more likely to secure startup funding’
on Thursday June 08, 2023 @07:31AM (#36240125)
I have learned that it makes sense to hire less good looking people, other things being roughly equal. Very attractive people - both men and women - are a distraction to a workforce of young, single people, and lots of flirting in the office can get toxic very quickly. Furthermore, if two people appear to be equally qualified for a job, you can bet your bottom dollar that the uglier one had to work harder to get there. To my knowlege, there is no law against discriminating on an attractiveness basis, as long as both men and women are treated equally.

I agree with most of what you say. The question I have is why would anyone care about new developers coming to their platform unless they had a plan, one day, to monetize those folks?
Re:Removal of Heroku free product plans

I think the situation may be perhaps different to the one you describe. Heroku seems to have been pretty clear about the abuse and fraud that led to this move. It's a shame all round.
I don't have an MBA and am not a beancounter, but have some experience on the economics of the free tier. It's not pretty.

Big difference between 'digital skills' and 'tech talent'. Call me cynical, but I'm gonna take a wild guess and suggest that employers are looking for tech-savvy people at minimum wage.

I'm 62, and was 'discovered' to have high blood pressure at 40. Mind you, I'd never even visted a doctor for at least 20 year prior to that, so who knows when it began. I've been waiting for a visit from the silent killer for some time. Maybe your post will delay that day! Thanks again.

Your phrase 'Images are also possible' worries me. But then you go on to say 'All of this is trivial ...', which makes me feel a lot better.
I've had many well-intentioned but ultimately abortive attempts to get on board with Emacs.
So, are images 'possible' or 'trivial'? Not trolling, and I do note that you say it's not part of your workflow.
