yes but last year it was between 20 and 80 percent, point being talk to me in 10 years and all errors around router behaviour will be completely missing from AI teaching tools
Re:Google Search Is Dying. What Comes Next Is Worse on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @04:11PM (#49263767)
Why would most people want to learn how a router works? It's the end goal that the vast majority of users want - i don't want to learn about routing tables, I just want to expose a port for plex, etc. Also, I could have AI craft a fascinating and engaging way of teaching router setup that actually helps me learn instead of wasting time searching through random forums form google results

no, no, no. you are supposed to romanticize the hunt for correct information /s
ok now I understand more the folly of my comment and yes, Claude would 100% do this. Maybe I should try first on https://zaneham.github.io/voyager-fds-emulator/
you didn't need to jump down my throat - and you are right - I left that comment without thinking. I was just saying that some mysterious old archaic programming paradigms can be demystified with the help of AI, especially the max power ones
im familiar with bugs i am an a qa engineer i am just saying, like fortran, the mysteries of old programs and old programming paradigms can be demystified with AI
not to be that guy but I have faith a powerful AI could understand all the ins and outs of the voyager code no matter what language

I've found I don't like marking up books, because what was highly insightful and revelatory on the first read, seems obvious and boring on the second read
Re:Terence McKenna's Mega Bad Trip on Monday July 20, 2026 @11:33AM (#48980298)
yea it's like when someone is a really good liar - some skills you shouldn't want to have. Being insanely sure of the history of the universe when you have incredibly scant information, is surely not a good thing, unless you need to use it to survive through an illogical and chaotic world

I feel that looking for God is spiritual but saying you've already found Him, know Him, know His kids, etc - that is religious
Re:A grumpy screed about AI in software engineering on Friday July 17, 2026 @11:27PM (#48954923)
that is so true in fact I have only heard a few people say that actually, most say it more in theory than practice. Because in practice I have always been asked to solve pretty simple and boring problems far removed from the Dijkstra algorithms i did in college. i never used a graph data structure in my entire life lol
Re:A grumpy screed about AI in software engineering on Friday July 17, 2026 @10:53PM (#48954738)
the people I know who hate AI have a bizarre and unrelatable love for the pure math aspect of software engineering - the elegant software architecture, the efficient programming languages. the people who only care about getting stuff done are loving AI but people who spent their life learning how to properly craft high quality software are weeping - as they should be - now they know how kasparov felt
this reminds me of the old IBM tabulation machines that were sold in 2 different models at different prices, the cheaper one just had a metal tab inserted to limit the processing speed - you could remove the tab to unlock full speed
yes I have hypothesized this as well - if you ask rudely on StackOverflow you will get bad or even misleading answers - but if you ask nicely you will more likely be given good information.

It could stand to reason that if you are nice to the AI, you will get a response that is trained on all of the nice responses and be higher quality.

but is providing access to internet for billions of people worth not being able to see the big dipper as clearly at night? I say yes, but only just barely
2026 hyundai is fine but is nothing special. Hyundai kona actually has an insane amount of physical buttons, around 50
if it makes you feel better you are supporting American automakers and American workers when you buy tesla - has helped a lot of people swallow the musk pill when buying one
>I can have fun without drugs.

Yes!!! I love this approach! unironically

cannabis is harder to quit because it doesn't have that "it's killing you" aspect to it - but staying in bed and playing video games can kill in a different way! Still better than drinking heavily though
I feel by your logic, no one should ever use drugs or alcohol lest they become addicted to how good they make them feel. An abstinence approach. very modern!
people rarely compare cannabis to fentanyl they normally compare it to alcohol and tobacco...
not alcohol, they will use that no problem, they can handle it unlike others

what if they improve the model and fix such errors? by writing off now you will take finger off pulse of our great vibrating ai lords
Re:Fable 5 Is Back on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @05:41PM (#48753510)
funnily enough for me, Fable 5 was much better at refactoring my large codebase than Opus 4.8 was - perhaps the scope of Fable is very great
Re:I used Claude Code to get a second opinion on my MRI on Sunday June 28, 2026 @03:47PM (#48710870)
what is happening is that the gap between what the experts and AI know is getting smaller each year. this year sure radiologists are mocking AI's ability to interpret MRI results, but they are a lot better at that this year than last. In five years perhaps radiologists will truly appreciate AI, but I am not holding my breath because radiologists are notoriously slow to adapt to changes in medical science compared to other specialists like anesthesiologists or surgeons
just want to clarify it's not Peppa Pig himself who will be paying the royalties but the production company for the show.

couldn't God have created a more orderly universe for us? this is ridiculous

No, because reality is always stranger than fiction

This author is way too wordy and spends too much time with flowery prose when he should be getting to his weird, highly idiosyncratic point
