That might be an issue for smaller projects but at larger scales there is often an associated charity. For example https://apache.org/ and https://numfocus.org/community/mission are both 501(c)(3) registered charitable organizations.
It doesn't look like it is active on their site but I would assume it is a link to the submit page with some conditional CSS based on whether the user has visited the site. Changing the display setting and text color.
Are you in France? https://www.cerascreen.fr would be an option. I've only used the UK site but assume it will be the same.

It's a "natural" source of sodium nitrite.

Sodium nitrite is used as a preservative in deli meats and generally thought to be bad for our health. It doesn't matter if it is mineral or plant derived.

I'm curious in what situations you were using the pulse oximeter. From what I've seen the performance of even the best watches is questionable in the normal range - one example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HIcwMhEny0
Very doable. I have FIDO U2F set up on my personal site and wrote a barebones example at https://jonathanstreet.com/blog/flask-second-factor-authenti...

I've thought about adding support for remembering devices but using the token is so easy it's just not a priority.

Re:Shamir's Secret Sharing on Sunday August 19, 2018 @07:38AM (#17793863)
I came across Shamir's Secret Sharing recently when thinking about how a partial password scheme might best be implemented. I even went as far as writing up an implementation of the cryptographic aspects.

Re:Building a Kickass Portfolio on Friday August 03, 2018 @07:35AM (#17678961)
Thanks. I'm pleased you mentioned the speed. When I created the site it wasn't something I focused on but I have thought about more recently. I'll aim for any changes I make to be at worse time neutral.

Do you have a link where I could learn more about that "Lazy Boy Sump Mapper"? I've found several mentions of its use, but would be interested in more technical information.

Re:Surprisingly simple scheme for self-assembling robots on Friday October 04, 2013 @11:03AM (#6495738)
Could a similar statement not be made for all the enabling technologies? If all the materials scientists, nanotechnologists, and biotechnologists went fishing as well I suspect the future would look a lot like the present.
Re:Show HN: Anonymous Blogging on Wednesday January 02, 2013 @08:28AM (#4996540)
For the login you ask for an email address. There are plenty of services providing disposable email addresses but I wonder if you need to ask for an email at all. Perhaps an 'Alias' field would be more in keeping with the ethos of the site.
Re:Ask HN: Are you alone in San Francisco on Thanksgiving? on Thursday November 22, 2012 @08:00PM (#4820610)
Apparently there were too many under-18s who looked over-21, many bars now advertise a policy of checks for anyone who looks under-25.
Re:Intel planning to get rid of DRAM on PCs on Sunday September 09, 2012 @04:22PM (#4496864)
It would depend on how the slower RAM was treated. Boosting the memory to support memcache for example would seem to make sense.
Some thoughts:

- The focus seems to be largely on the software but if you're targeting mass consumers, and the kitchen, the case could be important as well.

- 32 GB isn't really that much space when thinking in terms of photos. Do you have any thoughts on how a user might migrate to a larger card?

Re:SpareOne Emergency Phone on Sunday July 22, 2012 @01:07PM (#4277791)
I'm not currently in the UK so I can't test it myself but I was under the impression you don't even need the SIM
With the numbers supplied the calculation is correct. As written it is ambiguous though.

Think of it as: MWh/year = MWh/h x 365 x 24 x CF

Re:Show HN: Retrieve your Twitpics using PHP and Gearman on Thursday July 07, 2011 @11:27AM (#2738832)
Usually when attempting to take a backup or download multiple pages from a site I add pauses between requests in an attempt to limit the burden I place on the servers I'm fetching from. I'm sure twitpic will have no trouble handling this rate of requests but I would council against pursuing speed with too much zeal.
I'm actually reading Accelerando at the moment but somehow totally forgot about the crowd sourcing aspect of the new look CIA.

Investigating further Accelerando was published after Snow Crash by a fair margin.

Re:Show HN: effortless bookmarking site on Friday April 22, 2011 @12:36PM (#2474569)
It's likely premature optimisation. You may have a problem with bots signing up but I suspect at this stage it is not as large a problem as recruiting users.

You might also want to think about relying a little less on javascript. Try turning it off in your browser and see what you get. For me it was completely unusable and rather ugly.

Re:A common bug in published code on Friday April 22, 2011 @11:29AM (#2474352)
Actually the python equivalent of "Returns a pseudorandom, uniformly distributed int value between 0 (inclusive) and the specified value (exclusive)" would be random.randrange(0, n, 1)

random.randint(a, b) returns a uniformly distributed int value between a (inclusive) and b (inclusive).

</nitpick>

Re:Show HN: effortless bookmarking site on Friday April 22, 2011 @08:43AM (#2473877)
It looks like a nicely designed homepage that gets your point across well.

I clicked on the "Switch from Delicious?" button expecting to be able to authenticate with delicious and get going straight away. Instead I got a not terribly well presented list of reasons why I might choose to switch. At the very least there should be a clear call to action at the bottom of that list.

For sign-up is the CAPTCHA really necessary? If I understand your service correctly there is relatively little advantage to be gained by signing up multiple spam accounts and the presence of the CAPTCHA will reduce legitimate sign-ups.

Re:Physical Media Has To Go. I'm Digital Only From Here. on Wednesday April 20, 2011 @06:57AM (#2466077)
I'm not so sure.

A few years ago a similar statement could have been made about Myspace or friendster a few years before that. Would you be willing to make such a statement about either company today?

Would you have been willing to make such a statement about geocities 5 years ago?

Re:Dropbox Lack of Security on Tuesday April 19, 2011 @05:21AM (#2462091)
The difference being that you can change your facebook password. It's not that easy with dropbox.
The key word is "evacuated"

You can get a complete pdf download at http://issuu.com/thinkquarterly/docs/01-data#download

It requires a login though.

Re:Ask HN: Please review my startup, Crowdbeacon. on Friday February 11, 2011 @10:52AM (#2206705)
It's a nice looking site.

On http://www.crowdbeacon.com/how-works.aspx the video was a little slow to load so for a while it looked like a blank page above the fold.

Some of your FAQs don't sit well with me:

Why did you start Crowdbeacon? Consider ditching, "Also, because the future of life as we know it is rapidly becoming mobile and we wanted to make our mark early in the game." It comes across as a long-winded way of saying "this is a me too startup" rather than focusing on your USP.

How do you make money? Comes across very much as a non-answer. I suggest you remove this one entirely.
