Absolutely I plan to! I think I’ll just publish a quick and dirty repo of patches and work on mainlining the camera driver separately.

IMO it’s a waste for folks to not share, which is why I’m bummed about the pmOS LLM rules

Re:Running Ubuntu on the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet on Thursday September 17, 2026 @02:58PM (#49745029)
Wow! Serendipitous, I was just doing the same thing on my duet (trogdor) but I was focused on using Claude to enable the camera (missing in the device tree). I taught it to use depthcharge to reboot into the previous Kernel if a build failed; otherwise boot and start the same Claude chat so I could just let it iterate for days. It took a day to get something usable, pretty amazing.

Then I setup `howdy` to use the camera for auth.

now I’m just trying to figure out if I’m allowed to submit this upstream. Postmarketos explicitly rejects LLM submission, but I can submit it to linux-next. Seems to me a shame, this enables folks who have devices and want to fix things (but lack the time/knowledge) to use these LLM powers for a very good cause.

Plasma mobile has been really great for me, you should try it out!

Wayland had been around for a while, but I feel your pain.

Overall it seems much more performant if that makes it any better

Do you prefer one to the other? I’m in the market
Re:Bugs Apple Loves on Thursday January 22, 2026 @11:08PM (#46728305)
Great if you install Graphene!
Re:Bugs Apple Loves on Thursday January 22, 2026 @11:08PM (#46728303)
You can actually buy MagSafe cases for pixels. And GrapheneOS makes it very nice
Re:Bugs Apple Loves on Thursday January 22, 2026 @11:05PM (#46728284)
Yep same thing happened to me
Commented elsewhere but you can still get the Union made USA pants; model B01. Avoid pretty much everything else

I will have to try these Baileys though, how do they fit?

I can’t believe I’m chiming in on HN about work pants… The B01 are the only pants still Union made in the USA. AFAIK they still are durable as hell, I’m wearing them now.

The rest (mostly stretchy but some normal ‘washed’ duck) are imported and the quality is traded for fashion/lifestyle

Something I've done to help with this is wrap the bleeder threads with PTFE tape. It will make a one time seal on the non-taper threads, but it's enough for a flush

Re:Why I'm Spoiled by Apple Silicon (But Still Love Framework) on Monday September 22, 2025 @04:45PM (#45339243)
Hey fyi and for posterity, on SteamDeck I have the same issue and the cause is the same as outlined above (modern standby). I would love to hear more from folks who don't have this out of the box.

The fix is simple but I have to wonder why it's not set by default

https://github.com/nazar256/publications/blob/main/guides/st...

Ideally the Steamdeck would come with hibernation after timeout and FDE enabled by default, but it doesn't. Still love it, and I'm glad/grateful it's open enough to enable these features on my own

They were private until I believe 2017 or 18. Not that it matters, the whole company only grew by acquisition
Re:The Laptop That Won't Die? on Monday November 13, 2023 @10:16PM (#38258601)
I came here to add this, as a x230 user, the other laptop that has Mercedes diesel like longevity is the 2012 Macbook Pro. I've kept numerous alive for friends.

Reading this on an X230! Check out a Kingsener battery (8400mAh) I get about 8 hours of mild use. [link](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832160992805.html)
Doesn't Vault self-promote in the case of single node failure?

I noticed you mention Vault lives in the US, I'm sure you've already heard of this pattern, but Vault (Enterprise) supports [multi-region clusters for performance and DR](https://developer.hashicorp.com/vault/tutorials/day-one-raft...)

Re:Poste.io – Complete Mail Server on Thursday February 23, 2023 @10:31AM (#34911832)
Sorry for naivety, what is HELO in this context? I've been running a mail server with the other aforementioned things set correctly and tested; I've been able to reliably deliver mail to all of the big senders for years now, albeit on a small scale.

Am I missing something not knowing what HELO is ??

FWIW I've been using Steam+Proton on Arch for a month now, and it's like fucking magic. Other than the peculiarity of having two AMD graphics drivers to pick from, I'd say it's 90% there. No crashes, glitches, etc after picking the better of the two drivers for a particular game.
Re:KDE beats macOS hands down on Wednesday November 16, 2022 @08:58AM (#33622953)
The former is true, KDE ships with a clipboard manager with history, macos just has copy/paste. You need something like Maccy to manage history.
Don't bother with the naysayers and dickheads. I appreciate you trying to do something here for old devices, and 80% solutions are ok for most of us.

(I suppose postmarketOS is similar in spirit)

Does building a GSI make sense to cover more devices? Or would that not make sense in this context?

I'm so happy to see that it's easy to keep the E01 out of the dump. It looks like it's only about ~6 years old?
Re:Cat S22 Flip Phone on Tuesday May 24, 2022 @02:17PM (#31495637)
Hey! We spoke on your Github https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/issues/2...

Bootloader unlocking worked out of the box, and GSI installed without a hitch

issues right now:

- The flip doesn't turn on the internal screen

- front screen is inoperable and just displays T-Mobile's logo after installing the APK for the radio

- obviously there is no T9 keyboard with the GSI

- PTT button DOES work with an add-on app that maps keys, it registers fine

Happy to help anyway I can if you're interested

GSI tested and working
Re:Cat S22 Flip Phone on Tuesday May 24, 2022 @02:13PM (#31495571)
I just bought one of these and installed a GSI from phhusson Unfortunately there are a few things that keep me from daily use with the GSI, notably the lid switch doesn't work without the stock firmware. Less importantly, the front screen also doesn't work, but I can deal with that. WIP https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/issues/2...

There is no T9 keyboard on F-Droid that I can find, and everything on the Play store is adware.

Last complaint is that it's thick AF. Yes all the reviews mention it. But it's the same WxL as my iphone SE 2016, and TWICE the thickness.

When I contacted CAT to retrieve the original ROM so I could fix the lid switch issue, I was met with "we do not redistribute ROMs outside of the company". Aside from the usual "You are not GPL compliant if you don't release your kernel now!" style response, this is an asshole move.

I want to like it, I want to use it, we'll see how much resolve I have to fix the aforementioned issues. Does anyone want an unlocked CAT S22 with a GSI installed? ;)

Re:I want an iPhone Mini-sized Android phone on Tuesday May 17, 2022 @03:13PM (#31415132)
I have an iphone SE 2016 because I too felt that new Androids were too big, switched in 2019. If too many people are upset at the price maybe you could have an Android Mini-a like the Pixel line.

I had the first Pebble and have fond memories. I have high hopes for this!!!! I also love hardware but I never made it stick for work. I was one of the first engineers at Mesur.io, but things didn't work out.

My other thought would be to make this highly configurable; there is a large cohort of HN crowd who also want an un-Googled Android phone, myself included. There are no un-Googled small android phones, however with Project Treble many of them can run GSIs such as this most popular one https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases . Of course Lineage OS deserves a mention, maybe you could ship with that, build on what the community already offers.

The Unihertz line of phones deserves mention, but also scorn; they do NOT support their old hardware at all. The Jelly had 1 update to Android 8.1 and was left for dead. Additionally the system updater software included in the stock ROM was spyware. So unfortunately they were written off in my book.

Finally, I would like to see band 71 LTE availability for T-Mobile in the US. It really makes a big difference in the sticks. Unihertz does not support that, and for that reason I am sticking with my iPhone SE 2016 for the moment (until I find a small Android phone....)

Can't wait to hear more!

Re:Onyx BOOX Leaf: 7-inch eReader with Android 10 on Tuesday May 03, 2022 @10:39AM (#31248904)
What's the proper course of action for folks like us? Report them to a GPL violations hotline?

I don't ask in jest, I just was arguing with CAT (yes the heavy equipment people) about getting ROM/sources for their Android ROM, which they've stated they won't even ship the .bin out of the company.
