Unlikely. Most likely we are just missing something obvious currently by treating llm's as black boxes.

>This work shows a potential pathway to intepretability, which is actually part of what will give the labs that have it the sort of economy-swallowing capability

And how would you argument that? From what I see, if anything, it's the opposite.

It will just give the people better understanding. And the extent of the improvement is yet to be seen, it's likely that once you get all the obvious low hanging fruit it would be very hard to improve, the possibility space is just too wide.
Fortunately, once shareholders get involved we would be entering the swan song phase, so wouldn't have to suffer for long.

People at the top know that, once the music stops, the ball is over for everyone.

Imagine backdooring 50+ million installs.

Hats off to the hackers.

Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:11AM (#50285099)
You are correct about that. But the fundamental design of the site facilitated the value extracting vermin. Then the biggest value extracting vermin the internet has ever seen came along, used you as the training data and replaced you.

The biggest suckers were the people who were genuinely putting it effort there. So, in the end, did they make the world a better place? One would like to hope they did, but we are yet to see the long term consequences of the capabilities which were created with the value extracted there.

Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:14PM (#50284157)
Let's just be blunt. The main target audience were clueless idiots who just wanted to solve their current programming problem, e.g. compiler error etc. They didn't care about anything else, they just wanted to copy-paste text and for the problem to go away, preferably without even needing to turn their brain on.

Now we have a new guy in town, who offers "robotized copy-paste the solution to YOUR specific programming problem, no reading required! we can even control your computer for you, so you can do something you actually enjoy and stop wasting time on this complicated computery thingy for boring nerds", which serves the aforementioned audience much better.

Let's hope you enjoy killing your real userbase with collateral damage, because that's the only thing you are going to accomplish.
Smart humans build mental models to predict the world or look what worked for others, but if you want to set yourself on fire to understand that it's a bad idea, you're free to do so, the smell is annoying though.

So go make the internet a little bit shittier just to discover once again the "data center is gone, yet total bot traffic is the same" wisdom. You already encouraged others to do the same, so the damage is already close to maximum your insignificant existence can accomplish.

Anyone who thinks blocking datacenter ips helps with blocking scraping is a clown.
Nobody cares what you do, you are not smart enough. If you even entertain the idea of "let's just block datacenter ips!", all you accomplish by doing that is showcasing your incompetence and lose all respect from legitimate users who are good at tech. The scraper will just turn the resi proxy and will continue as is.

But maybe selecting for tech illiterate cattle as your userbase is what you want, then I guess more power to you. Don't be surprised by the scorn though.

>But I don't see that happening.

Then you are not looking. Already have to switch to resi proxies from time to time when encountering yet another smartass who decided to play security theater and block datacenter ips on his shitpile he calls website, because "OUR USERS MUST BE GOOD BOYS WHO LOVE TO LIVE UNDER SURVILANCE AND ALLOW ISP TO TRACK THEM 24/7" (and before you say something like "others can track you too!", your ISP has the ability to knock on your door, they should be given as little information as possible, let them do metadata analysis on per-person basis if they really want it, but no 1-click mass surveillance shit).

If you are valuable, you will be be scraped. Turning user hostile in a hopeless endeavor to "protect yourself" is not the solution.

>You’re handing the power and clout to a hostile nation

>Its economic warfare

You started the "economic warfare". You tried to turn them into enemies because you can't compete under the same conditions.

And don't you say anything about china competing unfairly, e.g. distilling etc. You looted, and continuously looting, the whole internet with 0 care. You are having a net negative impact on the internet as a whole currently. You are aggressively extracting value from things people gave away out of a good will, or just outright stealing and laundering the stolen knowledge.

>Short term benefit for long term harm.

Long term harm to who? Investors who gave money expecting an eventual monopoly?

And since when are we on the same side? Big american labs sure don't behave like allies to the general population.

Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:28AM (#50243309)
>Anthropic thinks it is.

Anthropic has no choice, just like you said. It's crush and burn right now or double down.

And they will keep doubling down, because stopping is simply not an option.

Nonsense.

Even if you take an old established media, like literature, you can trivially read all the classics by the time you are 30.

Saying that about gaming industry, which is barely 50 year old, is a joke.

One can only say that when they no idea what "high standards" actually means.

>There are roughly 50-70 new games released on Steam every day.

Ever bothered to actually go through the "all new releases" list on steam and actually check each new release? You should try it.

99% of "stuff" there is worthless trash, think 0 effort assetflip, which is never going to make $100 steam tax back. 1% is barely passable, as in "not a blatant insult to consumer". Unique stuff worth playing is extremely rare, if you're not 7 years old and you played more than a couple of games in your life of course.

The solution to that is not to continue to seek consumption, but starting creation. Your consumption phase is done.

Producing things of value takes a lot of time and effort, you would be too busy to waste time lamenting about things outside of your control.

A barn full of fodder for cattle would be a more fitting analogy.
"there's such an endless selection of excellent games"

If you have 0 standards.

Because they mostly likely are. Astroturfing 101: Go to the comment section of the {NEW_PRODUCT} and write a story about how awesome and "gamechanging" the product is to you personally. Ai-bros run shill compai..., sry "reputation management" all over the internet. Which is understandable, considering everything they have runs and dies solely based on hype. You can try it out yourself, if you have a prominent social media account, like on xitter etc, just write a skeptical comment about AI and watch tons of accounts appear out of thin air to tell you how wrong you are. Ironically, you can currently see it with the other replies to your post. Would have been funny, if it wasn't so sad.
