FWIW findings about adverse events vary considerably:

> The proportion of patients reporting adverse events ranged from 16% to 98% (median 80%) under SSRI treatment and from 17% to 94% (median 70%) under placebo [1]

So the answer IMO depends on whether we can attribute adverse effects to treatment, which is difficult to disentangle from adverse effects of disease

I’m open to being shown more certainty if available from the literature but meta-analyses are high-strength evidence

It’s disingenuous to assume every PDF is actually crafted to communicate to its recipients, even more so to pretend LLM users are in a position to understand all the PDFs they receive

There’s a lot of gray area where help understanding a document is fully reasonable

Can’t claim to know for sure, but I’d assume some kind of measurement limitations: the resolution and upper/lower limits of pulse ox are probably calibrated to some medical need, not to detect changes beyond what’s medically necessary
Ah, yes, part one of the ole

That didn't happen. And if it did, it wasn't that bad. And if it was, that's not a big deal. And if it is, that's not the IDF's fault. And if it was, they didn't mean it. And if they did, Gaza deserved it.

Seems like you’re asking “what’s the point of investigating crimes against humanity?”

And if that’s a question you have to ask, then clearly something is very wrong.

Definitely a unicorn success story. I’d be curious about Balatro in a similar vein—-labor of love turns wildly successful

Their job, in this case, is probably more of a signal than a clear indicator

Plenty of front-running companies have hired plenty of…not-solid or excessively imaginative data scientists

From what the other comments say, this one seems to lack a grounding in science itself, which frankly is par for the course depending on their background

I understand the strategy isn’t to find a niche in the sense of a specific set of users, but to broaden and cover more niches

The niches exist (overlapping niches aside), but agree with the skepticism since I also wonder whether the switching cost is worthwhile for many users

Not completely—as far as ecosystems there are RStudio addins, but I wouldn’t bet addins are extensively used

Computation isn’t likely prohibitive when using the bedrock of predictive models, linear regression, especially w some optimization. Could also vary observation time so you only need a prediction once every ten minutes or whatever

The real issue is the cost of false positive detection of cheating is negligible since the vast majority of positives are probably true positives—it’s the cost of doing anti-cheat business (minimal)

But yes cheats would be modified to just below thresholds of detection

Could you share a reference for those wanting to learn more?

Had a lot of fun reading this. I’d love to see some of the author’s code to get a sense what the journey produced, if that’s even possible
I’m not sure why you’re confused.

An occupying force holding its own elections in an occupied place is indeed illegal (your reference was about Israeli people holding elections in the Golan heights).

Comparing an _occupied_ people’s attempt to hold elections in the occupied place (Palestinian people in Palestine) to two separate non-occupied states (USA and Canada) is nonsense.

Hope that helps.

That second study didn’t use as robust of methods as the first, and they each used observational data that benefit from advanced methods (propensity score analysis).

With an RCT, the evidence is substantially increased.

I’d conclude sildenafil reduces risk of age-associated cognitive decline

> Given that designation as a separate state, complaining that they can't vote in Israeli elections is like complaining that Canadians can't vote in US elections.

I don’t remember the US ever occupying Canada.

Not like that at all, and this is a clearly biased take even considering this line on its own.

I’m also big on Asrock and I don’t understand how it’s not a more popular manufacturer
Really cool project. When I got to the sign in page, the email address I would have given my (edit: Google account) info seemed fishy, like it was a random string of letters. Any way to make it seem more…inviting?
It’s also “unfashionable” because the criteria for who qualifies as Hamas varies depending on how you ask.

See jhallenworld’s comment elsewhere in this post: > “Hamas terrorist” criteria: a male or fighting age…

Of course there will be males of fighting age among civilians, many of them _are_ civilians

Their cars recently significantly dropped in price, and it seems clear why [1]. Also got a bad review from MKBHD on YouTube, which can’t help[2]

Yeah it’s probably worth renting a server if there’s any doubt about whether it’s wholly appropriate to do something
MLC Chat supports Mistral 0.2 (7B, q3f16_1, it seems)
“Back to Oct 7”

Oct 7 isn’t when history started. Just a few days earlier, Israeli people were storming a mosque in Jerusalem. Seventy five years earlier, they were ethnically cleansing Palestine.

If you’d like to be biased, at least be open about it.

What an impressive interpretation.

If Palestinians leave Gaza to Egypt, then Egypt will be complicit with Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

That’s interesting. I think it’s rich that Israel is a “victim” despite having nuclear arms and one of the most advanced militaries in the world, but there’s somehow still a need to torture villagers-turned-refugees en masse. Let alone the fact that antizionism is not antisemitism.
That’s an interesting parallel, Gazan’s response is also borne of a history of oppression. Living with food insecurity, being an intergenerational refugee unable to return to home a few miles away, watching family members harmed, etc seems to motivate a lot of Palestinian behavior.
You’ve been in touch with Palestinians use HN? Not to seem one-sided, I didn’t realize Gazans had sufficient internet access, let alone food or water, to browse HN.
Re:Amazon Has an Honesty Issue on Saturday December 09, 2023 @02:30PM (#38585052)
Amazon took something like 30 days to deliver me an iPad (Pro, so $900) that was supposed to be “Prime” delivered.

I asked them to cancel the order after seven days, and repeatedly asked them to cancel, but they wouldn’t.

They seem to follow the old Ferengi adage of “Once you have their money, you never give it back”

Edit: I returned it for a refund, but was out a decent amount do money for a while.

Yeah I can’t tell if opting out would compromise service. Will I lose those features (internet access especially) if I opt out?

I’m assuming “no” but appreciate some consensus here.

Re:Margaret Atwood: My Voice and Mind Are Not Replicable on Sunday August 27, 2023 @12:14PM (#37284047)
You’re re-stating points from the article, what mea culpa would she need to make?

FTA:

> But judging from the attempt recently made with one of these entities—“Write a Margaret Atwood science-fiction short story about a dystopian future”—anything more complex and convincing is as yet beyond it. The result, quite frankly, was pedestrian in the extreme, and if I actually wrote like that, I would defenestrate myself immediately. The program, so far, does not understand figurative language, let alone irony and allusion, and its flat-footed prose was the opposite of effective storytelling. But who knows what the machines might yet achieve? you may say. I’ll wait and see. Maybe they’ll at least turn out a mediocre murder mystery or two.
